Yeah, I like the idea of ball control, but I'm not sure the bucks are built that way. They tend to score on explosive plays. The defense definitely needs to limit the big plays on the other side. Make Oregon drive the field. Tough task.

Not trying to say we couldn't win with JT, but I think a QB like Cardale is perfect against Oregon. We need his physical running style. We have to beat the living crap out of Oregon.

already enjoying that here in SEC West territory.

Went to a little pizza place last night and of course my friends were there... "hey how abut them browns?"

I turned to them and said I have four words for you, (instead of the usual two): tsktsk

THE Ohio State University.

Silence....

oh for the days when the Browns can bring me such solace. fingerscrossed

This is great and all.. But lets talk about whats really important..

Quote:
Four-star safety Tyree Kinnel glad he stuck with Michigan, recruiting like crazy for Jim Harbaugh
LINK

ANN ARBOR -- At first there was uncertainty, and then, for Tyree Kinnel, temptation.

The four-star safety from Huber Heights, Ohio committed to Michigan in July 2013, before Brady Hoke began his third season as Michigan's head coach. He fell in love with the coaching staff, but more than that, he fell in love with the school.

And as Hoke's fortunes began to turn, and recruits started jumping off ship at a rapid rate, Kinnel held firm. Even when Hoke was fired on Dec. 2, and no one quite knew for sure what would happen, Kinnel's heart of hearts continued to pull him toward Ann Arbor.

But at the same time, there was blood in the recruiting water. Other schools started coming after him. Notre Dame pressed hard. Kinnel took a visit to South Bend with his family, and really enjoyed everything the coaching staff had to say.

But even still, the back of his mind still wanted to wait to see what Michigan was going to do.

Earlier this week, all the stress and uncertainty faded away when Jim Harbaugh walked to the podium as Michigan's new coach.

And Kinnel was immediately glad he trusted his gut.

"I was so excited," Kinnel said Saturday. "I was happy for the university, I was happy for the fan base, I was happy for the players, the recruits. Everybody seemed to want coach Harbaugh to be the guy, and Michigan got him.

"Knowing his coaching history and everything he's done, it was just really exciting."

Kinnel's patience paid off a few hours later when Harbaugh phoned him shortly after his introductory news conference. Harbaugh thanked him for his commitment to the school, and his patience.

He talked with Harbaugh about finishing his school work strong at Wayne High School, and talked about how important it'll be for Michigan to finish the 2015 recruiting class on a strong note. He understood how difficult the whole process was for unsigned commits, and told him he was going to do everything in his power to make sure his Michigan experience will be top notch.

"I always had so much love for the University of Michigan, but it was stressful," Kinnel said. "Because you didn't know. You didn't know who it would be, what they would do. Notre Dame came after me pretty hard, and I liked them a lot. So it was stressful.

"But I just stuck with my heart, and I'm really glad I did."

During the time of uncertainty, Kinnel leaned on Michigan director of player personnel Chris Singletary and Hoke's defensive coordinator Greg Mattison.

Mattison phoned him multiple times and did his best to reassure him that Michigan was taking its time, and was doing everything it could to land the best coach possible -- which was Harbaugh. Mattison also told Kinnel it was his intention to remain in Ann Arbor on the new staff, whenever things were settled.

That patience paid off, too, as Mattison will remain with Harbaugh moving forward as a member of Michigan's coaching staff.

"That's a good thing," Kinnel said. "That's pretty neat. I have a great relationship with coach Mattison. He stuck with me, even through the bad times. That's a good thing."

For now, Kinnel will finish up his classes for the second semester at Wayne, and will join Michigan's roster officially in the summer.

In the meantime, he's also putting on his recruiting hat for Harbaugh and doing anything he can to sway uncommitted -- and possibly even committed -- prospects to join him in Ann Arbor.

"Oh yeah I'm recruiting," Kinnel said. "I'm talking to (five-star corner) Marcus Lewis, (five-star corner) Iman Marshall, I've been texting four-star safety Shaun Crawford (a former Michigan pledge, currently a Notre Dame commit) a bit.

"And I'm still talking with Alex (Malzone), he's staying on top of everyone. He's giving me more names to keep texting. He's on top of everybody. We're trying to get this whole thing together, and I know (Michigan commit) Brian Cole has been recruiting like crazy, too. We're trying to finish this class strong."

Yeah, I'd try to ignore the national championship game if I were a Michigan fan too. About these furthest thing from your program while your rival plays it. Ouch.

I'd rather OSU plays in it than the SEC.

SEC fans have some how become more annoying than bandwagon (not you guys) OSU fans..

yeah, anytime you get a big collective like that it can get real annoying real fast.

lose to a downward spiraling Notre Dame? oh, they didn't care about that game

ACC hammers them in matchups? only SEC games matter

Pac12 South best division in the country? no way, gotta be SEC-West, just look at the regular season rankings and don't pay attention to the bowl game results.

If you watched the Oregon/FSU game, FSU was running the ball at will straight at Oregon. The miscues really turned this game around and Oregon rightfully took full advantage but they had no answer for FSU's run game when they used it.

Against Bama, the Bucks were most successful running outside, away from Bama's strength up the middle. I think the opposite is true in this game. Run right at them and avoid the speed on the edges.

Slow the game down and keep Oregon's offense off the field.

So the Ducks picked their costume for the game. No green or yellow... you know...their supposed school colors. Traditionless. I hope we pound them.

I agree with you 100%

I think part of the reason we ran so well outside on Bama is because our WRs were incredible run blocking. Evan Spencer is a monster at run blocking. Against Oregon I pound them inside with Cardale and Zeke. Armstead and Buckner are good, but that NT sucks.

not only did they not use school colors, but they chose to use one of the main color components of their opponent?

then again, Nike said that both teams would be honoring past champion teams with their designs. the Buckeyes with the black numbers on the shoulder ala the 1968 championship team. the Ducks have no past champions, so their uniform had to look like a blank slate.

That's a weird explanation. So if the Ducks win and make it again to the championship someday down the road, does that future team honor this year's team with those same blank slate uniforms?

sorry, I should have used the purple font for the 2nd half of that I suppose.

the first part is true (Buckeyes honoring '68 team).

the second part is making fun of the Ducks by reminding everyone that they have as many football championships as the Bengals.

Nope. Haven't seen them.
According to Wiki... Oregon was wearing the Nike new Pro Combat uniforms, their 13th uniform (costume change) combination worn that season.

Kareem Hunt runs for five TDs as Toledo wins GoDaddy Bowl

By Nick Bromberg

Dr. Saturday

Arkansas State had no answer for Toledo running back Kareem Hunt and the Rockets' rushing attack.
Hunt capped a big season Sunday night with a 271-yard, five touchdown performance in Sunday's GoDaddy Bowl that helped the Rockets get a 63-44 win over the Red Wolves.

Three of the touchdowns came in the first half and they were bookended by Toledo defensive touchdowns.

After the Rockets scored on a fumble recovery on Arkansas State's first offensive play of the game, Hunt had 4 and 44-yard touchdown runs to give Toledo a 21-7 lead.

Arkansas State then pulled within a touchdown, but a 29-yard touchdown run by Hunt put the Rockets back up two scores in the second quarter. The Red Wolves were never within a single possession again the rest of the evening.

Following Hunt's third touchdown, Toledo's Allen Covington returned a Fredi Knighten fumble 66 yards for a touchdown and a 35-17 halftime lead.

Despite missing three games during the season, Hunt finishes his sophomore campaign with 1,631 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns. The GoDaddy Bowl moved him from No. 26 in the 2014 rushing rankings to No. 9. Barring a monster game from Oregon's Royce Freeman, Hunt will finish the year in the top 10.

Toledo ran for 365 yards as Damion Jones-Moore also cracked the 100-yard mark and scored two touchdowns.

Knighten finished 21-29 passing for 395 yards and five touchdowns, but the fumble that Covington returned for a touchdown was a crucial mistake. Knighten had plenty of time before he was hit (the blitzing defender who hit him hesitated on the play) and had Arkansas State scored a touchdown on the possession, Toledo's lead would have been cut to four.

The Red Wolves' run game struggled as Knighten flourished passing. Arkansas State had just 53 total yards on the ground.

Toledo ends the season 9-4 while Arkansas State finishes 7-6.

Wow...missed the game last night and when I saw the score this morning, I thought that was a basketball score...63 to 44 !

It looks like this Kareem Hunt kid is the real deal.
Way to go ROCKETS !

I think its pretty much a pick em game almost..

I do think National Opinion is swinging a bit too much OSUs way after the Bama win..

OSU went from "Lucky to be here" to "WE ARE INVINCIBRU" overnight..

Should be a good game.. hate that its a week away.. it'll get talked to death..

I don't understand why it's "can OSU stop Oregon?" How the hell does Oregon stop us? Alabamas front 7 is TRILLIONS of miles ahead of Oregons front 7 and Elliott just took them to the woodshed. Oregons defense is in the same situation as ours.

Regardless of what happens, this team has something that a lot of Buckeye teams haven't had since the 2002 squad- a champions resiliency. This team has been counted out the entire season. They were "done" after losing Braxton. They were "done" after losing to Virginia Tech. They had no chance against Michigan State. They were "done" after losing JT. Wisconsin was supposed to beat them. They had even less of a chance against Alabama. Oregon is just another obstacle.

Next years team might be better, but I'd rather have the "edge" this team plays with.

Toledo has had some very good coaches and players come through there in the past 30 years despite being the armpit of Ohio. Heck, we beat that team up north in their own building too. And damn did we come close at beating OSU a few years back too.

which brings me back to when I played American legion baseball..we were I don't remember our record, but it was average, but then we got everyone healthy and went on a roll. went through the winners bracket all the way to the state finals.. all the teams couldn't understand us because we were so short. just goes to prove heart is most important. by the way we only lost 3 starters from that team and the next yr they finished like 33-5 but didn't make it out of districts..

Ohio State gets unlimited practice time, Oregon limited to 20 hours.

Quote:
Ohio State will be permitted an unlimited amount of practice time this week ahead of Monday night’s matchup with Oregon. Oregon, however, will be limited to 20 practice hours, which for NCAA accounting purposes includes “[p]ractices, weightlifting and any film sessions or meetings required by coaches,” as well as the game itself counting for three hours.
Quote:
The reason is quite simple: OSU’s spring semester doesn’t begin until next Monday, which means that the players aren’t in class and thus the standard in-season rules don’t apply. Oregon’s term, however, began this week, making them subject to the NCAA’s in-season rules.
