I have a clue, and I am not irrational. ...says the guy who just claimed Jay Cutler wouldn't be an improvement over Connor Shaw. For you and cfrs..........that is NOT what I said. pdr, you do some pretty adroit copy and pasting. Here is the full sentence, unedited: He is not, nor would be, an improvement over ANY of the qb's we have on our roster as of today. Yes. That is what I said. I'll stick with it. Do me a favor, since I know you are so good at keeping track of everything...........get back to me at the end of next year. Wherever cutler ends up, let me know how he did.

What do you want to do? Trade up for Mariota or Winston (which probably isn't even an option)? Stick with Hoyer? Try Manziel? Sign Mark Sanchez, Sam Bradford, or Ryan Mallett?
There are better QBs than Jay Cutler. None of them are available or will become available any time soon. Our team is too good to draft #1 overall at this point. We have to improve that position to be good.
Matthew Stafford was in the playoffs this year. How much better/worse than Cutler is he? Not much. Romo? Carson Palmer? Andy Dalton?

I'm just laughing at the idea of claiming Cutler wouldn't be an upgrade over ANY of our QB's and then claiming to be looking at things rationally immediately after. Cutler would most certainly be an improvement over any of our QB's. I wouldn't take him on, but to say he wouldn't be is a joke.

I don't want Jay Cutler or Mark Sanchez. I also don't want to go into next year with Manziel (who I think they should cut the next time Manziel feels the need to apologize for something he did) or Conner Shaw. I have no clue who to get, I just know we don't want any of these guys. I still think they should franchise Hoyer and buy some time to figure this mess out.

So you would rather pay Hoyer $15 million than Cutler? That literally makes no sense.

Heisman winners don't really have a stellar nfl record, do they. I don't want any of the free agents - they are all someone else's junk. Our record goes from 7-9 and out of the playoffs to 10-6 and IN the playoffs with this: a made fieldgoal. Another made field goal, and 1 more defensive stop. And yet people are blaming Hoyer. I get it, the qb always gets the blame.............so, cutler sucks.

i agree that a few more things go right and we win a few more games but to not say hoyer isn't a reason we lost games when you throw 1 td to 9 ints over a span of several games down the stretch..sorry, but hometown boy or not..thats a dearth of talent at the QB position. Hoyer is pedestrian at best..regardless if we bring him back, his replacement and a challenger need to be brought in.

Wait, wait, wait. . . I wasn't on the board for awhile after the season. There are people who actually believe this:
Our record goes from 7-9 and out of the playoffs to 10-6 and IN the playoffs with this: a made fieldgoal. Another made field goal, and 1 more defensive stop. And yet people are blaming Hoyer.
There are still people who think we can win with Hoyer? I am shocked.

Let me bottom line it for you:
I'd take hoyer over cutler, sanchez, mallet or bradford.
Does that make sense to you? Why buy someone else's junk?

You're touting cutler........but when asked what his record was, you want to blame the bears defense. That's special. Especially when you consider that YOU poo pooed my saying a made field goal, a made field goal, and a defensive stop puts us at 10-6 and in the playoffs. Hey - you can't have it both ways. You can't blame the bears d for cutlers record if you aren't going to include 3 simple plays - 3 seperate, simple plays, from the Browns - and you hold them against Hoyer. Sorry, if Hoyer is responsible for our record, Cutler is responsible for the bears. Now - you still want the loser cutler?

Yet you refuse to believe we were 3 individual plays away from the playoffs. Fieldgoal, fieldgoal. defensive stop. If you give cutler a pass...........dang, that's as 2 faced as it comes.

Show me where I said Hoyer was solely responsible for our record.
Hoyer was bad by every known QB measurement. There is no arguing that.

I think it's a tough sell to argue that Hoyer played well enough to get the Browns into the playoffs.
One could probably make a somewhat convincing argument that 3,800 yards and 28 TD's is good enough QB play to get a team into the playoffs.
If the Bears defense played better, they could've got to the playoffs.
Our defense played out of their minds for a stretch, and Hoyer couldn't capitalize. All he had to do was not play terrible.

Would our team have won more games in 2014 with Hoyer or Cutler? YOu tell me. It's a guess. Would our team have won more games with a field goal kicker that could make 35 yarders? Yes.

Or, make one more stop. OR, have a field goal kicker that can make 35 yard field goals. CUtler, with his 28 td's............what was the bears record again?

Your non-answer tells me you know its Cutler.
And yes, I also agree that having a capable kicker would have been nice.

For the people saying Hoyer is bad.
He didnt have a true #1 WR for 10 games, lost the running game after Mack went down, and lost a Pro Bowl TE. Even when Gordon came back, he was inserted right away and had no chemistry.
Hoyer still has a winning record as a starting QB with holes all around him. Its not his fault the Browns get no WRs in the draft. Watkins, Evens, Cook, and Benjamin could have all been had but the GM whiffed on this years draft, not counting UDFAs. This years draft outside of Botonio did nothing to help this years offense.
Im in the re-sign Hoyer camp and add options at WR and to the right side of the line which I believe will stay the same (the o-line)

He won games with Cincys #4 WR and an aging coming off injury Miles Austin as his best 2 WRs. Compare that to the Bears 1 and 2 who I thought was the best set of WRs in the NFL.

I don't think he's bad. I think he faltered mentally down the stretch, and his collapse is directly tied to ours, but I wouldn't say he is bad. I can think of far worse QB's. And he might be one of the most viable options for us going forward.
That, said, I doubt he returns.

Wait, it's not just archbolddawg? There are others who think Hoyer is not bad? Are you like pdr? Just looking for a fight? Come on man - read and process. You've given cutler excuses for his team, yet you refuse to see that 3 plays over the course of a season are what kept the browns out of the playoffs. Seriously - you defend cutler because his d was bad...........please. Yet you attack Hoyer because he didn't over come the fieldgoal kicker? Please. I'd much rather have hoyer back than bring in cutler, bradford, sanchez or mallet. Why would we want someone else's garbage?

I dont want Hoyer for the next 10 years, just the next couple which might not be possible. Hoyer aint bad.
Cutler got outplayed by his backup last year and benched this year. He wont even be available any ways since he is paid more than Brady but hes average at best at this point of his career. Cutler would not get 7 wins with the Browns this season when he cant do it with the players he had. Id take him only if he cuts his pay in half.

Attack? Because I pointed out he was bad? Sensitive. I'd much rather have hoyer back than bring in cutler, bradford, sanchez or mallet. Why would we want someone else's garbage? I don't want those other guys either. If it's between Hoyer, Bradford, Sanchez, and Mallett I take Hoyer because I like the guy and if we are going to be bad I'd rather have a QB I like. Cutler is just simply better than Hoyer at playing football. I want my team to be better next year.

You guys can't be serious? You actually think Hoyer is better than Cutler? When I started this thread I didn't even think that was going to be argument that came up. I can understand the Manziel argument, saying Hoyer is better than Cutler is comical.

There wont be a bidding war), a healthy TE, and a WR core that he played with in preseason. A decent one which was ignored last year. Having a group of fast dudes under 6 feet tall need to be improved. Cutler could not win with the team the Browns had this year. Hoyer is a gap stop for Manziel to get the light bulb or until the next one is drafted.

Thats all. Im saying Hoyer at his pay compared to a top paid Cutler and spend money around the QB. If Cutler was being paid $8 mil or less then I would want him.

Cutler is better than Hoyer. It's not close. If you interviewed every GM in the NFL all 32 would take Cutler over Hoyer.
I can't believe people really want to run Hoyer back against a stronger schedule and a league with tape on him for a full season.

Cutler may be better then Hoyer but that doesn't make him a quality starting QB and again with what he is paid he is not worth it. Cutler is better than Hoyer. It's not close. If you interviewed every GM in the NFL all 32 would take Cutler over Hoyer. One didn't think so, the one who traded Cutler.
