I think some intelligent fans also saw that fact that Anderson led us from a come behind win after being down 2 TD's in the fourth. The fourth quarter being usually where Charlie folds and chokes...

Not jumping on the Anderson bandwagon yet, but the kid showed some promise today.

Well, it may not even be a debate. Cleveland radio is reporting a broken wrist for Frye.

I actually have experience with that. It took 3 weeks in a cast and 2 weeks with a splint to heal for a small break. If this is the case with Frye then we'll gonna get a good look at Anderson but soon Ds will figure him out and people will be calling for his head to. Has long he can help in beating pit I'll be happy.

Oh hell, they both had a good day.

Chuck was doing really well before he got yanked.

I hope all the crazy people remember that.

To me getting yanked means you're not doing your job which is not the case for CF today.
His wrist was injured and DA took over. That's different. Charlie was doing great before the INJURY.

aye, I've had one as well... in a cast for well over 6 weeks, then splint for 4 more. Charlie could easily be finishing the season on IR

Well I better throw my hat into the ring. I don't get to say much lately but I will give my 2 cents.

If Charlie is healthy, he is the starter...

However....
There are parts of DA's game that I like MUCH better than Charlie's.
First the most obvious. The arm. Anderson can make throws that Charlie can't even dream of making. The bomb to Northcutt is a perfect example. People will wine that the wind knocked the ball down...well boo hoo. Both teams play with the wind...and you didn't see Trent Green having that problem. Northcutt was wide open and no person within 10 yards of him and by the time the ball got there(severely underthrown) the DBacks were there. Charlie throws a crap ball and he gives DBacks plenty of time to get back into position. The velocity that DA can throw with helped out his receivers and it helps his OLine(Heck his shovel pases have more zip on them than Charlies throws...ok ok cheap shot but I had totake it..lol). How many plays did he make DB's bite with his pump fake and get our receivers wide open. With DA, the DB's have to break on the ball sooner. Making the pumpfake so effective.

I liked the accuracy that DA showed. Was he perfect. Heck no, but he was far more on target with throws than Charlie. And when I say "on target" I am talking about where the receiver is catching the ball...NOT completion percentage. The balls were usually in places where it allowed the receiver to make a play after he caught it. Balls were on time, and with NFL accuracy.

But you know what. DA is far from being "The answer" for this football team. The Cheifs gameplanned for Charlie. There really isn't any tape on DA. So he has some advantages. How will DA react after game 3 or 4 when teams have seen him? His big problem in College was INT's....and we saw a small lapse of that today. Does he have the smarts to learn and get better? How well will the OLine play with him. Frankly I felt his play was part of the reason the Line was playing better. The DLine couldn't just pin their ears back and play race to the QB. His throws and poise allowed a passing game to open up a little bit of the run game. Now don't get me wrong. The OLine played their best game of the year. And that had a lot to do with the win and the performance of the Offense. And their play today out weighs the assisting of the QB's play. But I think DA's game assists the OLine more than Charlies game. Teams are not afraid of Charlie hurting them on a blitz. We shall see if the OLine play as well as DA's play does as well vs Pitt who loves to blitz. That is IF DA plays.

In no way do I say DA is the answer for this team. I wouldn't mind seeing more of him. I can honestly say I have no confidence in Charlie Frye to lead us to a Super Bowl. And I can honestly say I don't know if I have the confidence in DA either. What I can say is that I like the way DA throws the ball. What I can say is DA has a lot to prove. What I can say is that is DA can show he has the smarts to make good decisions and protect the football that he should start over Frye...and if he can't than Bring on Charlie or our next drafted QB.

If Charlie is healthy...than he is the starter...But I wouldn't mind seeing more of DA if he isn't.

I thought I was wrong once....but I was mistaken...

While DA has a much stronger arm, Charlie threw this ball with a broken wrist.

There is NO QB contraversay... Sad though that it will happen, I bet alot of people think DA is the next coming of Montana after his FIRST performance...

Fact is, neither one is the "answer", and I think one will be gone when we are a playofff team...

I agree 100% Jaft.... DA should get the start just based on the fact that CF is hurt and it's a short week. Unless Frye is 100% healthy then he should sit on the bench

heh, sorry about the cursing...

If Anderson gets hurt we are in deep trouble... who is a free agent right now?

If Anderson gets hurt, we'll just put Cribbs back there and run the option

For the ONE play he played there

I'd suspect that Cribbs will get a few snaps at QB this week just in case.

I know you're saying that to be funny...(with the ROFL)....but I wouldn't put it past Cribbs gettin snaps in practice. Romeo has stated that Cribbs showed some good things as a scout team QB, simulating Michael Vick. There's always the possibility that Cribbs could be an emergency QB for games.... even if Dorsey is activated for games....

Didn't read a lot of other replies, but my two cents is that Frye is still our starting QB. Anderson came in and did well and I give him props. But, let's see how he does when another team can gameplan him a bit.

I didn't see anything today that lead me to believe he should be our starter over Frye.

That being said, I have no problem whatsoever with Frye maybe thinking right now "you know, when I get better, I'm gonna have this guy nipping at my heels." Competition is a good thing.

But, IMO, Frye is still our starter when his wrist is better.

Figured I'd add in my opinion too since I coined the phrase "Fanderson" on DT Chat

Anderson looked alright, but I'm not ready yet to call him anything more than a lackluster backup. We'll see how he does against a blitzing Pittsburg team, whose defense is a lot better than KC's.

He's the future!

Looks like he has his chance to show it, if Frye misses the rest of the season with a broken wrist. It would be nice to have one of those cinderella stories where the backup QB comes in and wins out the season. If nothing else we get to see what a pocket passer can do with our receivers. IMO our receiving corps is going to look alot better if we have a guy who stays in the pocket and can throw to either side of the field.

I did not read all of these but remember when the Couch/Holcomb debates were running rampant on the board?? Here is the thing, let see what DA can do when teams gameplan for him. Holcomb came in and tore up Defenses, but as soon as teams gameplaned for him he was a different QB.

Listen, I hope one of these guys proves to be our QB of the future but we don't know yet.

I have this to say. I'm sick and tired of these QB Controversies!!!

I've gone through Testaverde/Zeier, Detmer/Couch, Couch/Holcomb, Garcia/Holcomb/McCown, Dilfer/Frye ....

There is no way in hell I'm going to want Anderson to be our QB unless he is playing in relief of Frye (due to Frye's broken wrist). I'll support Anderson for these games. But I am not going to want Anderson at starting QB when Frye recovers.

Exactly what I was thinking!

I wish we could have a qb finish the year! Now it's going to be more speculation ending the year.

Agreed. Anderson IS NOT THE ANSWER, period. Let me make that perfectly clear. But at the same time I saw things that made me realize even further that Frye isn't the QB for the Browns (despite his 11-13...I know...)

He was off on some throws, had an ugly INT, but at the same time I saw him step up in the pocket and make throws and quick decisions where I know Charlie woulda held the ball, ran around like a chicken with his head cut off, make an ugly throw or take a sack.

It's not so much being for Anderson as it is realizing Charlie has more deficiencies than we want to believe.

Hmm....it just adds more to the speculation. Not so much Frye vs. Anderson as it is Frye vs. the future.

You never know.....he could be.

The only thing that concerns me Frye's injury is we never saw him play well. Ya know? He would have a decent throw here and there but couldn't make plays when he had to. Now we don't get the rest of the season to evaluate him. I kept saying Frye needed to impress me the remaining 6 games to stay the starter but...we don't know if he could have rebounded to finish the season. The last images I have are bad ones from Frye (yes he played well today but it was only a few drives).

I know what you mean... and in our final 4 games, other than Baltimore (#10) we have the #17, #22, and #28 ranked pass defenses to face... so it wouldn't surprise me if Anderson doesn't look at least pretty good the rest of the way... (if he goes that far.. but something tells me he will)

Hey, I'll tell you what, I was fully prepared to give Frye next year to win me over... if Anderson looks good, let the two battle it out in camp next year... I don't agree with Jaft who said starting Anderson would be like "starting over"... it's not like Frye had developed this great rythm with the offense...

I think the only thing Anderson accomplished today was to shorten the rope on Romeo's hook should Frye play poorly when he comes back.

That had a lot to do with the defense playing more cautious dealing with the unknown backup. It happens a lot. The offense is not having much success moving the ball, the backup comes in, and all of a sudden the offense is making plays and moving the chains.

This is a common occurance.

Anyone who has been watching NFL football for very long has witnessed it time and time again.

I think it is two things...the D playing cautious from a factor of not knowing a player's tendencies.

But the only hole I have with this is why he stayed upright most of the day...you'd figure that they'd send the farm a few times, especially when they had a two TD lead.

I'm not so sure you can draw the same parallel here though. Typically when the starter gets replaced with the back-up and the back-up has success it's because it's in the second half and the other team has a huge lead {that's why the starter got yanked in the first place) and the defense has gone into the prevent...

That is not the case here. DA was brought in (for good) when the score was tied and he had some success, then we went down by 7 and then 14 but he was still moving the ball... then mid 4th we cut it to 7 and then the game tying drive... KC really had no reason to ever leave their base defense....

But to be honest, even on Frye's TD drive in the 2nd quarter I thought HE had a lot more time... I think it was more of the OL playing better after the first quarter than anything either qb or the defense was doing different.

I wouldn't get to hung up on looking for reason why Anderson might do well and just go with what you saw.

If we play that game, charlie faced the bengals twice and they were pretty bad on D.

It just boils down to how he does.

Plain and simple.

I don't see a controversy. Frye is out for a while now, so this is a normal deal. If Anderson does well, all it does is open things in camp next season which is how it always is anyway. If Anderson wins out there based on his play there and the remainder of this season, he wins out....fair and square.

Some people are going to have to deal with it.

If he doesn't, Chuck steps back in and is in year 3 of his tenure.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

This thread is so damn sickening it's pathetic... Get a grip people, DA has no real game footage on him and now he's the man? Do you people think that if KC had a DA game plan the outcome would be the same? You guys are so damn clueless, and your will to debate overtakes your brains... Not only is it sad for this thread to even be here, it's sadder that you maroons want to debate it... Sucks when our boys win and then some fans as the one's on this thread ruin it with nonsense, thanks guys, this thread will remind me that we have some of the dumbest fans who watch the games...

Well Jaft on the same token, Anderson did well considering he probably had "minimal snaps" with the 1st team offense, and he had to pretty much come in on the fly and play

look romo didn't do all that great when he came in the middle of a game, after a week of practice he excelled

Anderson showed me the ability to improvise...those shovel passes were "ala Ben Rothlisberger who does this consistently"

im not comparing Anderson to Ben yet, as it is unmerited, but Anderson did show some talent...ya know Tom Brady was a nobody, a 7th rd draft pick who was Drew Henson's back-up at Michigan...anything can happen

but im gonna ask everyone here

what happens if Frye's wrist really is broke and he is done for the year, and Anderson runs the table?......what if Anderson wins out?

then what?

it is a legitimate question, If Anderson wins out...and plays really well..we just may have found our sleeper QB

if Anderson beats the Steelers, all heck is gonna break lose

could anderson's good performance also be attributed to the fact that Herm probably spent all week gameplanning to defend charlie frye? im sure he didnt watch a lick of film on Anderson. hell, im sure that there was no film of him in orange and brown to go off of anyway.

Just to bring up something I hadn't thought of until this morning.

Along with DA came a few players who the Chiefs were likely not planning for:

Steve Heiden had no TD's until yesterday. Suddenly he has two. I'm sure the Chiefs were focusing on K2. Heiden and DA likely hook up more during practice. DA was simply looking for the guy he is used to.

Although JW did get some carries in the past few games, he was not nearly as involved as he was yesterday. He's another player who typically gets more reps with DA than he does the first team. The Chiefs were likely focusing on RD in the running game. The Browns mixed up the carries between those two very well. They complimented each other well in that game.

JJ was also obviously heavily involved in the offensive game plan. Such has not been the case thus far.

It is surely a combination of many things.

In that game it was not like Charlie and the offense was struggling. He had his best game as well. DA didn't come in and provide a needed spark. The spark was already there. DA simply came in a continued the good play.

I think the combination of the offensive game plan, the improved OL play, the focus of the players to play well, the Chief's defense, along with the unknown DA and the players he is used to, all played a part in what we saw yesterday.

I'm guess I'm just cautioning folks not to lay all the credit on DA. The team as a whole came up big in this game from the opening drive to the game winning field goal.

if a WR/TE is on the field at anytime and goes out for a pass.. they should always be an option if they are open...

Anderson str8 worked the field...

He acted like his awareness was 99 on Madden.. lol

I don't buy that at all. There isn't that much of a diffeence in Frys game and Andersons game.

We played the same gameplan each way, so it really makes no difference in who we played.

If Cribbs came, I could see your point.....not with Anderson.
