So the difference is really just the color?

I wasn't sure what to expect. I am rather pleased that they stayed with teh orange helmet as the team logo, and just made the colors richer. (though I hope that the real helmets are a little darker orange.

Uniform unveiling is in April. I can't wait!

If keeping with the colors of the logo, it looks like a metallic orange is out. Disappointing.

Oh well. So much for all the hype for something that is essentially the same. Too funny.

That was kind of my thought. It took two years to pick a shade darker orange.

Yeah, I'm hoping the uniform change is a little more dramatic.

Here's this from the Browns staff writer Kevin Jones.

Would have liked a metallic orange as well.

The sad thing is they probably paid a marketing firm an exorbitant amount of money to pretty much say...."So, umm, keep the shell of the old logo helmet exactly the same but use Photoshop to darken the orange a tad and change the facemask color from gray to brown. Oh and by the way, our invoice is in the mail."

I am a little upset. Not at the fact that the color scheme is different- in fact, I rather like it. It's that the helmet remains the main logo of this team. I was hoping for something a bit different.

I was hoping for something creative and it didn't really happen for me. I am also a bit disappointed that the color of orange may imply that there won't be a metallic look.

You guys should see Twitter....people are going OFF on the Browns.

This isn't a new "logo" like we were all told it would be. It's simply a touch-up of the old one.

Hopefully the uniforms incorporate a metallic orange as I like that too. I also wouldn't mind a flat orange helmet.

Considering they didn't change anything, why the heck did they even hype this up. I'm disappointed. Wasn't even worth searching for logo leaks, which most looked better than this crap.

Deadspin shares your sentiments on the designs costs as well.

Deadspin
Browns Unveil New Logo

The Cleveland Browns revealed their new logos and color today, and it's a whole bunch of nothing! Just like the Cleveland Browns.

The primary logo remains largely the same—a helmet—but the font had changed, along with the shade of orange, and even the color of the facemask. The secondary logo is still a dog, but it's more cartoonish. A revamped version of Brownie the Elf will reportedly return as an alternate logo, but we'll withhold judgment on that until we see it.

Because the Browns likely paid some agency way too much money for this, every little change has to be justified as being symbolic. Witness the brandspeak:

Our updated helmet logo is reflective of today's modern Cleveland - the design honors the past while evolving into the future. The iconic brown and white stripes stand tall over the orange helmet - a new orange color that matches the passion of the Dawg Pound. The new brown facemask represents the strength and toughness of Cleveland.

I frankly didn't want much of a change so I'm relatively happy with this, but that orange now makes me think of a traffic accident instead of a compliment to the brown.

Ugh...a car wreck...that sounds about right.

They paid a consultant a million dollars to come up with the metallic orange, but homeless guy told Jimmy to go with the darker orange instead.

it also shows that the helmet that everyone likes will not be used. Not only is the orange shade different, but the new logo shows inner white stripe with brown piping while the helmet concent showed brown stripe with white piping.

How can this team continue to do everything worse than the general public would? Seriously. Ridiculous.

Hey Jimmy I have a great idea instead of wasting money on a darker color and a new face mask color which instead of paying a million dollars you could have asked any 5 year old that tough question, why didn't you take that million dollars and LOWER season ticket prices for all of the faithful fans that pay hard earned money to watch this team!

Instead of promoting it as a new logo why didn't they just come out and say we are updating the CURRENT logo? My son was all excited last night at dinner at the big reveal today and I told him don't get your hopes up you'll be disappointed.

My ESPN app took md to the Browns page, but the page wouldnt fit in the window..

I could only see half the announcement page.. and I scrolled down.. saw the helmet, saw the new dog.. and said..

Where's the new logo?

Then I went back up.. and realized the face mask on the helmet was Brown.. and that THAT is the "new" logo..

I'm not mad. I'm not even disappointed.. Apathetic.. is that the right word?

Blah.

IMO I think #Browns missed huge opportunity to create new branding & identity; that said I love the bright orange helmet w/ brown facemask

https://twitter.com/RuiterWrongFAN

This is generally my views on the matter as well. Except I'd replace "love" the bright orange to "I'm ok" with it. I really, really like the brown facemask though.

God, now the FB trolls on ESPN are making fun of us....again.

The public outcry on this release is absolutely astounding. I mean, there is more hate about this than Michael Lombardi being hired.

The problem is that they made a big deal out of it. They should have just said they were updating the current logo instead of a brand new one. I'm fine with it, but with all of the fanfare around it, the announcement was a dud and easy to make fun of.

Look at us, a bunch of guys worried about shades of orange. We're guys, we don't worry about things like the shade of colors. We only needed the 8-color crayon box when we were little.

Stop it, all of you.

There are no words in the dictionary that match the level of apathy these changes instill in me.

Based on this example, I fully expect to fall asleep (or into a coma) at the uni unveiling.

If you are going to:

1. announce a change
2. hype that change for more than 2 years
3. promise your fan base 'fresh' 'exciting' and 'new'...

...then do it. Really do it.

This effort was so weak, it doesn't even put the 'laugh' in 'laughingstock'...

smh.

Uh... no.

This is disappointment.
The Lombardi hire was pure outrage.

Short memory, Memphis?

A guy that tweeted into WKNR may have summed it up best by saying:

"Meh, a couple times through the wash and it'll look the exact same as the old."

The new Dawgpound logo is kinda cool, but there really is no real dawgpound anymore. It left with the old team. It's pretty lame now and is filled with a lot of visiting fans by mid year.

I was nervous that the "new" logo was going to look stupid.

I guess technically I was wrong.

But this is a real let down....

Same logo, brighter shade...

Did this really need all the media hype/attention?

superconfused
