Farmer has picked up Taylor's option, extended Haden on a giant contract, matched a giant offer sheet for Mack in his one year, and extended Hughes. He tried to re-sign Cameron and will likely sign Gipson to an extension.

So. . . you're wrong.

your wrong on haden. the gipson he got on the cheap. Cameron he tried to trade last year why you think he made a great effort to resign him is beyond me.

Haden signed his extension in May of last year.

Gipson will get an extension.

Cameron was at least offered a contract (it seems).

macks contract is a 2 year rentel and taylers is a 1 year rentel. the only one with a long term contract is hughes.

Anyone Farmer brings in as a FA is going to be "His Guy" as much as the draft pick was.... I don't see how your argument holds water.

Seems like Farmer has made his evaluations and is making offers accordingly. Seems that he doesn't have the same opinion as some on here. . . . that doesn't mean he is trying to play favorites with his draft picks. Good lord - the treatment Gilbert got last year should totally disperse any notion that anyone has an automatic shoe in to start.

I think he is referring to the fact that Gilbert was benched multiple times (he was active but hardly played). He would've played even less if Williams didn't get hurt.

I know what he was referring too.

However, ignoring the fact that Skrine was allowed to walk and we kept Gilbert despite how terrible he performed is ignoring reality.

He was deliberately trying to mislead the readership.

heckert.... i mean farmer pretty much out and out said his draft picks are going to start. what do you think?

Did that happen inn year one? Did draft picks get a free pass to the starting role?

Let's look.

Manziel and Gilbert? Nope.

Bitonio? Yeah, he started from day one.

Kirksey? He played quite a bit, and played well, for the most part.

West? He started some, and got sat down when he screwed around in practice.

Desir? He didn't see the field until late in the season.

What draft picks did the front office force the coaches to put on the field no matter what?

S.S.D.Y. Same sh.. different year. I wonder if any more of our castoffs in the past 10 years are ready to come back for more money than before? Browns will be the only team in history to have $100 million in salary cap available going into the first game of the season. What are they waiting for? Any player in their right mind with any value at all would exit stage left from the Factory of Sadness for the same pay or a few pennies more. It's just laughable any more. One way to keep our growing list of starting QB's from getting larger is to bring back players who couldn't cut it before. Brilliant.

The'd better start looking around for his successor, and soon.

I'm of the opinion that he might not make it through the entire 2015 season.

Pure speculation, stated as fact. No basis in truth or even anecdotal evidence.

Visits tracker: Dwayne Bowe meets with Browns

By Kevin Patra
Around the NFL writer

» Former Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe is in Cleveland to visit with the Browns on Saturday, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported. The 30-year-old wideout far underperformed his contract in Kansas City, but is still a viable option at receiver. For the Browns -- a team devoid of much talent at the position -- he would be a welcome addition.

The funny thing about that is a two-point observation:

1. Whining never gets the whiner what (s)he wants; it only serves to irritate the ears of those nearby.
(Screaming infants have NEVER bothered me, even when I was in my 20's... it's always been those bratty whiny-ass 4-year-olds who made me want to grab a rag and a bottle of chloroform...)

2. Agendas are only effective if they are cleverly conceived and artfully artfully executed... and these doofuses ain't exactly Machiavelli, you know?

I've taught myself to navigate a BIG circle around 'the smell'... because where there's a smell- there's always a 'pile' lurking at the center.... knowhatimsayin'?

wink

It's actually pretty easy for me to ignore'em without taking the steps to do it electronically. I call it "speed scrolling." Here's what I do when I open a thread (A 'Clemdawg Tutorial'):

STEP ONE: Click mouse wheel, set page on 'slow auto-scroll.'
STEP TWO: Focus on Screen names at Page Left.
STEP THREE: Cancel auto-scroll ONLY when the screen name belongs to a poster who's earned my time.

Saves a lot of time... AND it still leaves my options open to respond, even if a poster isn't part of the 'First Team.' Rookies, #2's, and even walk-ons have made the cut- and on a somewhat regular basis. Just bring game. It's all I ask.

______________________

It's the bandwidth-wasting 'flame-wars' that forced me to adopt this new tactic. I used to read every single post on every thread I opened. I refuse to do that any more. Coming here is supposed to be a pleasure, not a chore. I aim to keep it that way, even if it means adapting my surfing style to accomplish it.

'Species adaptation' is the key to survival.

I'd like to pine away for the 'good ol' days, but the old board had a ton of this crap too, if I'm going to be truly honest about stuff. People haven't really changed since they showed up on this sphere- and they CERTAINLY haven't changed in the last 20 years or so.

So at this point in time we have (projected starters):

Offense

QB - ? or McCown or Manziel
RB - West/Crow
FB - ?
WR1 - ?
WR2 - Hartline
WR3 - Hawkins
TE1 - ?
TE2 - Dray or Barnidge (or one of them as TE1)
LT - Thomas
LG - Bitonio
C - Mack
RG - Greco
RT - Schwartz

Defense

DE - Winn
DT - Taylor
DE - D.Bryant
OLB - Kruger
ILB - Kirksey
ILB - Dansby
OLB - Mingo
CB1 - Haden
CB2 - Gilbert
CB3 - Williams
FS - Gipson
SS - Whitner

So:

QB, FB (?),WR1, TE1 biggest needs
with D-line as looking at possible upgrades needing a pass rusher.

As much as some are freaking out about holes, if you look at it on paper (well or text, lol) it doesn't look as bad reading post after post about how we're screwed. When considering there are still FA's out there, add players in the draft and June 1st cuts.

- Yes, the QB position is HUGE we all know that. Not much else to say about it

- Yes Gilbert is a question mark, and sources say the FO has been contacting CB's

- TE, still have a couple out there i.e; Clay, Gresham or maybe looking to draft

- WR1 possible 1st round pick (?) or later and still FA's; Crabtree, Shorts, Bowe, Jennings. Either way these free agents are keeping the WR1 warm for the possible draft pick.

- Also I know we have to fill in spots for the depth chart and ST.

We will need our young players to keep growing (or Gilbert to wake up), players to keep gelling, fill a couple holes, hit on this draft (and next year) and find us a damn QB!

Great work!

At this point I would say that Hartline is our de facto #1 (like Austin last year). Gabriel #2 and Hawkins in the slot.

Unless we get Cooper, White, or Parker I don't see a huge shakeup in that order. If we draft someone like Strong, Agholor, Funchess, Perriman, etc. I would think they would be eased into action (although I personally think Agholor is ready to go right now).

Facemask:

Nice synopsis.

It's not as dire as folks what to make it out to be. Browns have a better core of players than they have in a long time. Much (if not most) of the staff is still together, and we have a nice mix of vets/younglings to move the team forward.

____________

Some of the sentiment you see is based on 'perpetual negativity.' Certain personalities just hang in that direction, you know? Nothing can be done about it- and the internet allows everyone his moment on a public forum.

Some of it is based upon uncertainty: a time-honored constant, where the NFL is involved.

Much of it is due to "Battered Dawg Syndrome." And quite frankly, who can blame any of us for "shrinking under the whip?"

This offseason hasn't yet killed me... but I have to admit that I reached a pretty deep low during the whole Chud/Norv/Horton/Banner/Lombardi episode. This doesn't even come close to that.

Love the list, Dawg- it's a "breath of (objective) fresh air."

Funny part is your DL is even off. Hughes graded unanimously as our best DL for two years now. He will start as he did towards the end of the year over Phil and Winn. A rookie might even get the last spot too. Our DL will be DEEEP.

But CFRS, what are we going to do about finding a FB? Where oh where will we find someone to blast defenders out of the way of our RB, someone who can passblock and then catch an outlet pass and get you 15-20 yards, someone who could even rumble for 10 on a 3rd & 7 draw play? Does that player even exist?

grin

Did draft picks get a free pass to the starting role?

Let's look.

Manziel and Gilbert? Nope.

Bitonio? Yeah, he started from day one.

Kirksey? He played quite a bit, and played well, for the most part.

West? He started some, and got sat down when he screwed around in practice.

Desir? He didn't see the field until late in the season.

What draft picks did the front office force the coaches to put on the field no matter what?

This post was followed by a series of posts where people whined and belittled other posters who have questioned [or in their words---whined] about some of the moves the Browns have made or not made.

I love how they build off of each other. Looking down their noses at all those who aren't as objective, superior, intelligent, and as fair as true fans like themselves.

Gosh, it must be nice to be so superior. sick

I would like to review your list. I know that will mean I am a whiner and that I am not a true fan, but since the moral majority has already lumped me in w/other losers.....what's to lose?

--Gilbert: Actually they gave Gilbert every chance to win the starting job. He was working w/the ones right after arriving in camp. He played terribly, but they kept him in the rotation. He lost time as the year progressed because of poor play and a terrible attitude. The FO has also decided to part ways w/Skrine. What do you think that means for Gilbert? Wait, don't answer y'all..........because you will just tell me what a whiner I am and how I am not a true fan like you. You know, negative people lean towards negativity in all facets of life. saywhat

Manziel: One of the main reasons Shanny wanted out of here is because the FO wanted Manziel to start those last few games of the year, even though he was not prepared to start. Furthermore, why do you think they let Hoyer walk and brought in McCown?

Oooppps. I have to learn to stop asking questions as if I would get logical replies. I need to understand that my analysis is just the ramblings of an ignorant whiner. So, I will just tell you what I think since we can't have conversation where I viewed as your equal. I think that the majority of players would have preferred Hoyer over Manziel if the Browns had kept the former. I also believe that Hoyer believed that he deserved to be the starter if he outplayed Manziel in camp. That isn't what the FO wanted.

Bittonio: He was inserted immediately, but he played well and deserved his position as a starter.

DeSir: He played perhaps worse than any CB I have ever witnessed in preseason games. However, he made the team. I thought he was hurt much of the year? Am I wrong about that? Or, am I just whining? I am not sure if it even matters as he was not a high draft choice.

This part is only for those who actually do like to look at both sides of a debate and not just call other posters "whiners" just because they don't agree w/the majority. {Wait....that just reminded me of something----what were those very same posters saying last year about our FO? Oh yeah.......they called them The Three Stooges and almost every post on every thread was filled w/whining........wait....it wasn't whining.......it was constructive criticism. Okay, got it. naughtydevil ] Anyway, back to my final point. I am not in agreement w/everything the "whiners" say, but I think they have a right to say it w/out being called names and have their opinions dismissed just because they have been placed in an inferior group by the elitists on this board.

I am also going to say that it is probably too early to say whether or not Farmer favors his high draft picks, but the early evidence suggests that he may, especially if one considers all the evidence that is out there----true playing time, post-season moves, Shanny's complaints, how JM was drafted in the first place, Text Gate, etc.

Now, I need to go find my pacifier to calm down after my latest "whine."

Crabtree's demands must be completely outrageous for him not to have a home yet. While he's never lived up to his draft status, he's a bonafide tweener between a #1 and #2 and possibly has the best hands in the NFL. Wouldn't mind seeing us make a run at him.

Wouldn't mind bringing Ridley in either. File this as another surprise for me he hasn't found a home.

And in what I'm sure would be an unpopular move, I wouldn't mind kicking the tires on Vick. I think he's got something left in the tank and would instantly be a huge upgrade over our already very talented stable of QBs.

LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

Quite honestly, I do not believe anyone could or would have predicted the amount of production he was generating last year before the injury. I can't wait to see him back in the lineup.

For the Browns -- a team devoid of much talent at the position -- he would be a welcome addition.

I just hope if we do indeed sign Bowe, two things:

1. It's not for anything close to a mega, high dollar contract

2. The staff doesn't feel the WR core is now complete and ready for high production. Honestly, I'd like the Hartline signing more than Bowe and JMO - wouldn't view Bowe as being a legit #1. I'd still look for a real #1 threat at WR. Bowe, Gabriel, Hartline, Hawkins, Travis - none of them have "#1" written on them or big threat.

Former Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe visiting the Cleveland Browns this weekend

Mary Kay Cabot, Northeast Ohio Media Group By Mary Kay Cabot, Northeast Ohio Media Group

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Browns might land another veteran receiver to pair with Brian Hartline.

Former Chiefs receiver Dwayne Bowe began his free agent visit with the Browns Saturday night and will continue it through tomorrow, a league source confirmed.

ESPN's Josina Anderson first reported that Bowe had arrived in Cleveland was having dinner with club officials Saturday night.

Bowe, 30, was released by the Chiefs Thursday in an attempt to gain some cap relief. His cap number for 2015 was $14 million, and the Chiefs created $5 million in cap space by letting him go.

The No. 23 overall pick in 2007 out of Louisiana State, Bowe (6-2, 221) has spent his entire career with the Chiefs.

Over the past two years, he averaged 58 catches for 713 yards in two seasons under Andy Reid.

Bowe's best season was in 2010 when he caught 72 passes for 1,162 yards (16.1-yard average) with an NFL-high 15 touchdown catches. Bowe became expendable when the Chiefs signed former Eagles star receiver Jeremy Maclin.

Last season, Bowe was part of a Chiefs receiving corps that failed to catch a TD pass.

Bowe, who's registered three 1,00-yard season, leaves Kansas City as the Chiefs'second all-time leader in receptions (532) behind tight end Tony Gonzalez.

it seems to me that bowe was good until andy reid got there?
maybe the system was his problem. he's definitely got the size i'm looking for. bowe one side, hartline the other side, smurfs scattered in between.
