Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

This is ridiculous. I don't think you can honestly think that's what the rule is about.

I don't. I think that their clinging to the ability to define the punishment after the crime, and yet still apply a "severe" punishment based on the circumstances of this situation is bullcrap.

So it is okay for Belichick and Brady to blatantly break the rules for a competitive advantage and walk away unscathed?

Regardless of the lip service provided by the NFL, there is, and never will be, any real parity. There may be several parodies, like the usual whipping boys.

To think that the Browns and the other recent bottom feeders will catch a break is like peeing in the wind.

Atlanta will get nailed, the Browns will get nailed and every other team that cheats will walk away laughing like they always do when it comes to this franchise.

I can't believe that I'm still a fan.....

Hopefully Severe means Suspension and Money...

Anyone know what the Falcons did?
Also no mention of discipline measures for the PATS on the deflate gate thing. ??? They get a free ride?

If they take a first away...got a big time apology to Slick! Now got two reasons to hope no way!

You wouldn't have to apologize tab....it's not a big deal. Like you always say . It was jmho. I just hope I am wrong. I understand the Browns deserve to be punished....but I might smash something if it is a first round pick

my opinion on the matter is this:

draft picks should be taken away from teams who break rules in order to benefit on game day, so as to offset the competitive advantage they gained/hoped to gain.

if no competitive advantage was gained, or there was not intent to gain such advantage, the team should not be punished in such a way as to "even things up" by putting them at a disadvantage (taking draft picks).

I dont know exactly what happened, but i hope the NFL sees it in a similar way, and does not put the team at a disadvantage, when they never sought an advantage in the first place.

however, i do believe ray farmer deserves a FINE for breaking those rules, and ultimately, if he was seeking and advantage by texting, we do deserve to lose a draft pick.

I'm thinking the Browns perhaps already know their penalty of handing over picks...thus the reasoning of Farmer trying to obtain comp. picks next year??

Maybe they made a deal, take a 4th rounder from us, so you can show "who's boss" to everyone else..

And we don't have to do Hard Knocks..

I think Farmer will be penalized but i doubt the Browns will be. I think he personally could receive a 6 to 8 game suspension and a hefty fine. The Browns i expect a fine as well.

ThAt was my guess as well.... I won't be totally surprised if we lose a late round pick...I'd be floored if we lose a pick from the first to days

We should all just take a guess at the punishment and we'll see who's the super fart smella at the end of the day.

Price is right style, the one who gets closest without going over.

I'm (foolishly) going nuclear:

1st & 3rd rounder, suspend Farmer for the first 6 games and $2M fine.

Just a guess from me but I am thinking a 5th or 6th round pick. A four game suspension that will be served during the regular season, and a fine or 300 to 500 K

I could live with that.

It would still be incredibly disproportionate to punishments that the dolls of the NFL would receive, but it wouldn't cause steam to come out of my ears.

And as far as punishments being equal for all NFL teams, as Clevesteve affectionately puts it ...and a saying I like quite a bit ...

Because Browns.

And well because Goodell is likely the most crooked Commissioner in the history of sports.

Thanks slick...Bro hug

personally I think the "reported to be severe" would be the Falcons 2 years of cheating canned noise when opponents O was on the field. Compared to our Dumb Ass pissing contest in the heat of a game! That had nothing to do with us trying to take an unfair advantage of a team...maybe that's what is wrong with us...lol laugh

I think Suspended games (most his work is done.) He can visit other team games and scout for next years FA market!
And Big fine. 100-500K somewhere in there.

I honestly think that will be the stand the NFL will take.

I believe they will say that any time a member of the FO tries to change the line up or the play calls, they are looking to gain an advantage. If they felt the teams line up and play calling were just fine as is, they wouldn't be trying to change any of it.

As I said, I was making that statement, "just for the sake of argument". However, when the NFL makes such a statement, nobody has the right to argue in terms of making a difference.

I guess I really don't care what happens to Farmer, he was an idiot for texting. Fine him 500K and let him sit out 6 weeks.

But I am going to be really upset if it costs the Browns any draft picks. I just don't see how this affected the results on the field. The browns did not gain any advantage.

Now, I can see the Falcons getting drilled with draft picks and a significant fine. Piped in noise affects the play.

I am going to be really curious to see how the patriots escape the deflate gate mess... That seems like something that affects the play on the field as well. BUT Kraft is a supporter of the commish, and he needs all the help he can get right now.

So in order of severity of penalties, its the falcons getting hammered, followed by the pats, and then the browns with a fine and suspension. Hope I'm right.

Based on the fact that no one can, or wants to, prove that NE actually did anything..

I assumed it will be drug out till no one cares and then swept under the rug.

There is also the aspect of time involved here. The Falcons pumped in crowd noise into their games for 2 years. 2 years!

There is an enormous difference between one instance where a team executive does something stupid in the heat of a game, and where a team consciously decides to cheat. The Falcons cheated, and did so for a full 2 years worth of games.

I don't see much happening to the Pats. I just don't know who you blame for that. We'll see though.

i'm not sure that you really need to find "the person" to blame, it's an organization thing. It happened, one set of balls were low, the other set wasn't. Who did it really doesn't matter to me. I doubt any lengthy review will actually find the person that did it.... but it wouldn't have happened without Brady approving it. I just hit a late round draft pick and call it good.

But the commish likes his 50 million a year job, i doubt he burns a bridge, so the pats will get off.

Oh wow, very nice if true! Whew they were saying a 2nd round or 4th round, those would have hurt and been a bit unfair.

Fining and suspending Farmer seems fair and legit consequences IMO.

I know GMs do stuff during the season, but what exactly do they do? It's not like the whole scouting staff is suspended. This was the best outcome possible

Because regardless of what Haslam, Farmer and Pet have said... Haslam told Farmer what to text and Farmer is only taking the bullet for Haslam.
