We were two first downs away from being 8-8...maybe four first downs from being 9-7.

That's true so if we can build our D more and get a better running game we should be that more formidable even with Josh as qb whom I feel is better than BH.

Tennessee, New Orleans and Atlanta, as I recall.

Average teams are somewhere between 7-9 and 9-7.

Atlanta, New Orleans, Tennessee,

meaning we could've easily been 4-12 as well. I love being an optimist, but some people need to keep it in perspective as well.

we got lucky, we got unlucky last season.

Good God! How expected was that immature and mindless sarcasm?

So I was agreeing with the poster, and since I evidently disagreed with you its immature and mindless notallthere

Seriously, I've been reading your dribble for 7100 post. WE GET IT, you hate the browns front office and owner. We all know we suck, but most of us choose to be optimistic. But your arrogance and pessimistic views just goes over the top most of the time.

I honestly don't understand why you are still a browns fan.... You just seem so unhappy about the browns. For your own health, go find a winning team with a stable FO and a winning record. Go follow your boy Shanny, they should have a good year......

You say you give praise where it is do, but your negativity just erases all of the positive vibes. You sir, are the King of the Doom and Gloomers. thumbsup

on and BTW, we need to cool it with the "other teams in our division are aging"

ummm no...you can do what ever you wish. I'll do what I wish. There was a major discussion peeing on the Browns stating how we have the most over 30 ever since 99...and it was not subjective it was stating that it was a bad bad sign. Meanwhile we are the least over 30 in our Division.

Cool it? ehhh no.

As for 7-9 just pointing out a fact - its the best start by any regime. You get happy with 8-8...go right ahead. I'm just stating a fact. 8-8 is ok to you but 7-9 I'm being too accepting of mediocre...lol laugh

My point is 7-9 is the best start by a new Regime. 7 wins is the more than the 6 prior seasons.
My point is I don't see this OBVIOUS WE SUCK and will have not other place to go but down. That's all.

later.

Just my opinion, but the next injury that ends his season will for sure be his last. Either he will retire or he'll just simply not draw interest from any teams. And even more so my opinion, but his next season ending injury is not a matter of if, but when.

I seriously hope the throwing of the 19th pick, if true, for him was the first and only move the staff makes. Him playing good, showing some hope and then BOOM, sidelined for the season is something us Browns fans don't deserve.

Rumor: Browns trying to trade Johnny Manziel to Eagles for Sam Bradford, draft pick

The past year has been a whirlwind for Johnny Manziel and the Browns.

Is the rocky relationship about to end?

According to Chat Sports, the Browns are looking into a breakup. In an article posted on Monday evening, Mack Ferguson of Chat Sports reported that the Browns "have engaged in multiple discussions" to trade Manziel and a high draft pick to the Eagles for quarterback Sam Bradford.

Ferguson's information comes from a source "very close to an agent involved in the trade talks."

On late Monday evening, I spoke with Chat Sports founder and CEO James Yoder via email to confirm the story and the legitimacy of the source. Yoder said of the story and source:

"We only go out on a limb like this if the source has direct contact to the situation. The source in the situation is a very close friend of one of the agents of a player involved in the potential trade and took a 25 minute call with our staff today. He (or we) cant guarantee the trade takes place, but we can with 100% confidence say that the content we published is factual."

Chat Sports is not a traditional, widely respected media outlet, such as ESPN, Cleveland.com. Pro Football Talk, etc. However, the site has broken major stories before. For instance, Ferguson published an article on Chat Sports about Jim Harbaugh and Michigan on December 19. In the piece, Ferguson cited two different sources, stating: "Harbaugh is indeed set to become Michigan’s head football coach." On December 27, national media outlets began to confirm the news.

According to one DBN source in Berea, the Manziel trade rumors are false. Which source is right? The truth is that we don't know.

As we await confirmation from other sources and media outlets, let's consider the plausibility of a Browns-Eagles trade.

First of all, the two teams have previously discussed a trade involving a quarterback this offseason. The Browns offered a first round pick for Sam Bradford after the Eagles acquired the veteran from the Rams. When Bradford was a Ram, the Browns showed interest in trading for Bradford, according to Jason Cole of Bleacher Report on February 18. As recently as March 31, Pro Football Talk reported that the Browns might make another run at Bradford.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen stated last Wednesday that the Browns are "90 percent" done with Manziel. Several Browns beat reporters have refuted this idea, including ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler. However, evidence points in favor of Mortensen.

On February 18, head coach Mike Pettine said that "all options are on the table" after Manziel entered rehab. On March 10, Pettine said he would be "comfortable" with Josh McCown as the starting quarterback. Plus, Peter King backed up Mortensen, at least in regards to Mortensen's report of offseason quarterback discussions. In his most recent Monday Morning Quarterback column, King wrote:

"Mortensen is 100 percent accurate here. In fact, when the quarterbacks have been discussed this offseason in-house, Josh McCown is the dominant talking point, and then Thad Lewis, signed last month as a free agent. Then comes Manziel and Connor Shaw. The point is that Manziel has given the Browns no reason to think he’s the long-term answer at quarterback."

Moving forward, Manziel is expected to complete rehab and return to the Browns by mid-April in time for OTAs. Pettine recently said that he was "optimistic" about this possibility.

On Monday, Browns left tackle Joe Thomas dropped a piece of interesting information about Manziel in an interview with Tony Grossi of ESPNCleveland.com. The team captain said: "I think [Manziel] lost probably a lot of trust among the guys on the team last year by the way he handled himself once he became the starter."

From all of this evidence, it's safe to say that the Browns are at least somewhat interested in trading Manziel.

Eagles head coach Chip Kelly has a close connection to Marcus Mariota. Kelly coached the first round quarterback prospect during his tenure at Oregon. Despite early denials by Kelly, rumors have persisted that Kelly will attempt to trade up for Mariota in the upcoming NFL Draft.

In his most recent press conference on March 25, Kelly did not reveal his intentions, as noted by NJ.com. The Washington Post composed a good piece on the idea on March 30, giving further insight into the Kelly-Mariota connection.

Thanks to the above evidence, we can conclude that Kelly could be willing to trade Bradford in order to acquire Mariota.

However, as noted by the Chat Sports article, there are major obstacles to this trade.

First, Bradford only has one year remaining on his contract. Bradford is in the final year of a six-year, $78 million contract, and set to make $12.99 million in 2015, according to Over the Cap. Bradford has not earned that kind of contract. Bradford has played all 16 games in just two of his five seasons in the league. The 27-year-old signalcaller has 11,065 career yards, 59 touchdowns, and 38 interceptions in 49 games, according to Pro-Football Reference.

Should the Browns agree to trade for Bradford, the club would likely want the quarterback to sign a contract extension at a reasonable price. Without an extension, Bradford could walk away in 2016 after one season with the Browns. According to Peter King, this was a major sticking point in negotiations between the Browns and Rams.

Second, the Browns are reluctant to give up a first round draft pick. As stated by Ferguson in his Chat Sports article:

"[The Browns] have not been willing to give up a 1st rounder to get the deal done. The Browns started negotiations by offering their 3rd round pick along with Manziel, and recently budged to include their 2nd round pick (#43 overall) but are not willing to go into the 1st round unless the Eagles offer more in return than just Bradford."

This makes complete sense. The Eagles could use an extra first round pick to either trade up for Mariota or to fill a team need. As noted in a recent article at Philly.com, the Eagles need help at wide receiver, safety, and guard. The Browns don't want to surrender a first rounder, as Cleveland has even more holes to fill than Philadelphia, particularly at wide receiver, defensive line, outside linebacker, and arguably the right side of the offensive line.

At this point and time, the deal looks like a longshot. The potential trade, as outlined above, is risky for both parties. For the Browns, the loss of a first round pick could further set back the team, and Bradford's ability to stay healthy is in question. For the Eagles, there are too many variables attached to Manziel, rendering it impossible to project his effectiveness in 2015. And even with another first round pick, acquiring Mariota would not be a sure thing.

But in the wacky world of the NFL, anything is possible, even a trade such as this one.

Updates will be posted as this story develops.\

Does anyone think this is even real or just he imagination of a few reporters... Was there reference to a team source (either team)?

Or, was it just reporters repeating what other reporters are saying?

Well, they went out of their way to claim they had a source, but their evidence read like this:

Evidence: I ate a sandwich today. It was the same sandwich that Manziel normally eats.
Evidence: I visited Cleveland once.
Evidence: Chip Kelly wears a visor.

Comclusion: This trade is going to happen!

My favorite part was when they concluded Kelly wanted to trade up for Mariota when the only evidence offered was a press conference that said he wasn't interested in doing just that.

I do think there is trade in the works for Manziel, but this article offers no evidence of that. The article reads like garbage.

I don't think they are 'speculating' anything. The site is reporting what an agent of the player in the potential deal provided in terms of information. Now, one can say the information that triggered this report could be garbage, a smokescreen, wildly inaccurate, etc. but I don't think anyone is fabricating something out of thin air, although to be fair, it's not like something like that has happened before. But it's been confirmed the Browns tried to trade for Bradford when with the Rams, why would a second attempt be so outrageous?

To me, this trade rumor is all predicated on the assurance Philly gets Mariota. I don't don't see the Eagles parting with Bradford with no real answer. A deal, even if 'at value' made sense, doesn't seem to add up. If a deal like this happens, I think it is on draft day or sometime after.

What is more telling, IMO, is that reports from several outlets are reporting Manziel's less than ideal reputation with Cleveland. People can claim up and down it is coming from the same story (which I strongly disagree) but this team is searching, maybe even panicking, to look for a more viable option. A more viable option from Manziel....a more viable option from McCown.

This doesn't mean a move can/will be made- this trade or otherwise- but I think the tone of moving on from Manziel has some true merit to it and these reoccurring Bradford rumors are just a piece of that.

My favorite part is they had to quantify the breaking report site

"Chat Sports is not a traditional, widely respected media outlet, such as ESPN, Cleveland.com. Pro Football Talk, etc. However, the site has broken major stories before. And using the Harbaugh / Michigan as proof they know what they are doing. in December I could have told you Harbaugh was going to Michigan, we all knew it was high probability, by that point it was a 50/50 shot declaring it official, favoring the sure thing side.

This trade would be a big mistake simply because of SB inability to stay on the field. If we could get him for JM and a 4th rd pick I'd do it. If you get SB your just going to end up with Josh M. playing anyway. JMO

I would agree. I think Chip Kelly isn't interested in Johnny as a starter. Now, as an adequate backup? Who knows.

So if I have this right ...

Browns get: Sam Bradford

Eagles get: Manziel, 2nd round pick, 3rd round pick

Kelly already gave up Foles, a 4th round pick, and a 2016 2nd round pick to the Rams for Bradford. That's a lot to give up, in total, for Manziel, a 2nd, and a 3rd, plus I don't see how it helps Kelly get Mariota. The only way any of this works is if Bradford is refusing an extension with any team he's with, making him a 1 year rental, which makes the price too steep for the Browns, imo.

Sam Bradford would be a "patch" until he is injured again. I just can't get over Bradford's durability issues and the feeling of waiting for him to break again.

So, what would be the Browns plan when Bradford goes down? All I see is more heart ache with Bradford, knowing his chances of going down on us is a very real possibility.

I've been studying Mike Glennon and see him as a very nice fit for the Browns. If the Bucs draft a QB, Glennon suddenly becomes expendable for the Bucs.

The Browns would be able to keep their two-first round picks this year and next years first round pick to move up to draft one of the top QBs in this draft. The Browns could swap one of our QBs (Shaw, McCown, Lewis) and lower round draft picks to land Glennon.

Pettine could continue to build the Browns based on a strong defensive team, rather than using up our first round picks and next years first round pick to move up for one of the top with a QBs in this draft.

Glennon appears to be durable starting 18 games without injury and he has put up decent numbers his first two seasons in the NFL and playing in two different offensive systems..Shiano in 2013 and Lovie Smith in 2014.

I would take Glennon over Bradford for a bunch of reasons.

Right now I think the offer is Manziel and the 2nd.

I read it as we started with JFF and our 3rd, but then upped it to JFF and the 2nd. I saw it as replacing the 3rd with the 2nd, not adding the 2nd to the pot.

Assuming this has any legs whatsover.

As much as I'm all for just getting that kid off this team and outta the city, him and our 2nd overall for the brittle Bradford sounds like nothing that excites me. Heh if it's true, I can really say with open arms, I'd rather keep Manziel and our first round pick.

If the Browns are not looking at the possibility of Glennon from the Bucs...they would be very foolish not to look at him as a alternative to trying to convince Bradford to come to Cleveland.

...and what kind of money would it take to get Bradford to sign and extension?

I can see the Browns spending a first rounder on Bradford then signing him to unreal numbers to get him to sign and extension...then watching Bradford fold the first time he gets hit by a Steelers LB.

That kind of grief might send me over the edge...

Browns fans should "expect" our front office to do the unthinkable concerning Bradford...

...send Manziel and a first round pick from this year's draft to sign Bradford, throwing a ton of guaranteed cash at him to sign an extension...only to watch Bradford get hurt, done for the year again.

It would be no different than drafting Manziel...all the red flags are there...but Jimmy Haslam and Farmer refuse to believe they are RED FLAGS.

...what is the definition of insanity?...

Great ... it's a "breaking story" smirk

The title does not identify it as a "breaking story"... the title identifies it as a "rumor". Evidently the alleged source is an agent to one of the players involved...

We shall see.
Who I say is prolly just trying to turn up heat on their client if its true. I highly doubt it.

Rumor: Browns trying to trade Johnny Manziel to Eagles for Sam Bradford, draft pick

Here's the thing: Anyone remember Earnest Byner? Yeah, I thought so. tongue

Well, after his fumble in the Browns/Denver Championship game the Browns sent him packing to the Redskins. On the surface it looked like the Browns were simply done with him. But in an interview with Byner after he retired he said that was the best thing that ever happened in his career.

Not that he didn't like Cleveland. He loved the Browns, the city, the fans and his teammates. But following the fumble he just couldn't quit dwelling on how he felt he let everybody down. It was eating him up. Killing him.

He had no sense of having let his new team down so all of that was behind him allowing him to focus on his career in which he did very well going forward.

In the case of Manzel, he not only has to deal with his own personal demons as he adjusts his lifestyle, he also has to deal with the feeling of letting his teammates, coaches, the fans and the whole city down. That's a lot to have to carry on one's shoulders as evidenced by Byner's interview.

Moving JF to Philly leaves him only with dealing with his own rehab and football. The National media will still have great interest in him but he's never had a problem dealing with that. But what happened in Cleveland is much closer to the heart making it a huge issue going forward.

So for everybody's sake, trading Manzel could be the best for everyone.

That said, if would be just like the Browns luck to get Bradford in that trade only to watch him get re-injured forcing his retirement while JF flourshes in Philly having lost a lot of weight off his back.

Who knows? I don't.

I agree with the one poster ... why would Kelly want Manziel?

The only way I see this happening is if their is a third team interested in the picks that Kelly is going to give up to get Mariota. But since, according to this rumor, we are not sending a first, it doesn't make much sense on the surface.

McCoy did come out and say that Kelly doesn't like star players. I guess Manziel would certainly fit that.

I think Manziel is gone to Dallas to be closer to home and compete for their 2nd/3rd string spot for a second or third day pick come the draft.

The reason I don't see JF as a fit in Dallas is that he's lost that glossy sheen he had coming into the draft.

Now that his life haw crumbled right before our eyes I believe JJones is not nearly as high on JF as he was before. Had JJ signed him in the draft the publicity would have gone through the roof as it did here and it would have been all positive as it was here.

However, now that JF's issues have become public he's not nearly as attractive to JJ and most of the press would be negative towards the 'Boys which is never in JJ's interest.

I don't disagree with that, but I don't think that precludes them from bringing him in to be a back up.

Lots of teams take chances on guys they loved at one point that didn't pan out with their other teams.

Sorry Dub I seen no Byner in JF.

Big difference here Byner gave his all, JF gave NOTHING. Byner should have been given the benefit of the doubt because the effort was definitely there. In fact JF shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as Byner.

I don't think the Browns will be trading JF so rest easy Dub. The one thing JF has going for him remaining here is he has NO trade value at this point, I mean who would give up anything for a spoiled lazy drunk. I said this before he can change my perception of himself but as of the time of this writing he is a spoiled lazy drunk, and NFL teams have been watching as well at this point he holds NO value. He can change that but thats on him.

JT rightfully and honestly said it how it is with JF its up to him and it is. His burden if you will is of his own doing.

But should it come to pass that the Eagles actually want JF and a pick for Bradford I do the deal and laugh cause JF no matter how heavy a burden (laughing) will be who he is. If he has a set he sucks it up and does whats expected of him but that doesn't reflect his past deeds although I commend his effort to change it only has meaning if its followed with action.
