I don't know if that is true, but it gives me hope. _________________ I would take Winston in a heartbeat, but not with a trade up. Only if he fell. I'm preparing to go with what we got, and hope Johnny sees the light. I hope Farmer and crew fill some holes with those two firsts. I just don't see any other move, besides maybe Cutler, but he gives me the willies.

NBC Denver considers it a "virtual certainty" that the Broncos will draft a quarterback.
With Peyton Manning nearing the end and Brock Osweiler unproven in the regular season, longtime Broncos reporter Mike Klis expects a rookie to be added to Denver's quarterback corps. Klis considers Colorado State's Garrett Grayson the "most ready" to slot in behind Manning and Osweiler. Grayson could come off the board on Day 2, which may be too early for the win-now Broncos.

Should this happen would anybody want to trade for Osweiler? If so what would you give up?

I think the Broncos are high on Osweiler. If they draft a qb, I think it would be more of an insurance policy in case Osweiler flounders.

Probably right, just postulating new ideas to fix our qb issues. I don't know if Osweiler would be a fix or not if he would be available. But if Denver did draft a qb, I would make the phone call and query his availability.

That isn't what I meant, tex.
I do think Winston has more ability than Osweiler, but his head worries me.
I think the rest of the guys in this class are bums and projects w/the odds stacked against them. I could be dead wrong, but this qb class doesn't impress me at all. It reminds me of the Gino Smith class.

I have some interest in Petty if he is there in the 4th....maybe even 3rd.
He has some skills that I like, but that bogus offense scares the crap out of me and it is a real crap-shoot if he will be able to function against NFL defenses.
It's real hard to evaluate guys like him.

Agree with your perspective on the Qb class in general.
I still struggle with understanding the disparity between Mariota and Petty. I am not going to say MM is over valued or Petty is undervalued. I just see very similar players. I can MM in the 1st and Petty in the 2nd but lots of people are saying Petty in the 4th. I don't see a 3 round difference.

That is a pretty good take. I hadn't thought of it that way, perhaps because one is being considered number one overall and the other is an afterthought.
But yeah, that is a good point.

I posted this on another thread, but no one responded. I think it is an important issue and that it warrants conversation. Honest conversation. I think it is a good thing that he checked himself into rehab. That takes guts, especially for a person who a huge public figure. I won't make fun of him for that.
I have two issues w/the Manziel situation:
---Our FO should have done a better job of evaluating him prior to the draft. We passed on Teddy for JM. It was a huge mistake.
---I think we might be in the same position of not having our QB again next year. Let's face it, having faith in JM staying clean, learning the offense, and looking like a professional QB is a stretch at this point.
I will conclude that this is a tough sell on the general public. Not the homers on this board who ignore facts, but the people who fill the seats in Cleveland. They raised ticket prices by as much as 40%. They drafted two first-round stiffs last year. They still don't have a proven QB on the roster and chances are that they won't again after next season plays out.
I understand that it's very popular on this board to demean anyone who questions what the Browns are doing, but man, it ain't a pretty picture and all the name calling and insults aren't going to change my mind about that. So.........how many of you feel comfortable that the Browns are going to resolve the QB position this year? How many of you are afraid that we will be in this very same position again after next season? Would most of you at least admit that it is very concerning? Well, I still have the same questions. Our QB situation could have been resolved, but Farmer blew it and I almost GUARANTEE we are going into next season w/a major question mark at QB. How exciting...

So.........how many of you feel comfortable that the Browns are going to resolve the QB position this year? No one feels comfortable with the situation. How many of you are afraid that we will be in this very same position again after next season? Everyone worries that we won't get the qb situation solved. Would most of you at least admit that it is very concerning? Of course. Did you really have to ask those questions?

Best case scenario?
Johnny Manziel wins the QB job in training camp. Proves all the nay-sayers wrong (like me) and makes it so we DON'T have to draft a QB. He does this by performing well, consistently progressing and learning, and leading this team to 8 or 9 wins.
Is that likely? Probably not. At least not at this point anyway.
As far as prospects go for the draft? Unless we're 2-14 we probably won't be able to get Cardale Jones.
I'm a big fan of Connor Cook from Michigan State.
I don't know where we would need to be to draft him though, but I did read an article a week or two ago saying he could be the next Matt Ryan.

With our current QBs, 2-14 is a very real possibility.

Our QB situation could have been resolved... I'm going to play the Devil's Advocate here. Let's assume that we did indeed draft Bridgewater, and that he had some degree of success. Now does anyone believe that we would have a QB controversy this coming season, or does Hoyer still depart? To answer your original question: I'm fine with our QB situation this year, recognizing that we are in a 'bridge' position unless Manziel shows that he could be our guy. If JM pans out, perfect. If not, then we continue our search. I don't know if we could have done better than McCown as we all know, there are not 32 starting-quality QB's out there at this time...

With our current QBs, 2-14 is a very real possibility. Barring a handful of major injuries I think we have too much talent to go 2-14. Our defense on paper should be one of the elite defenses in the league. Our offensive line & running game should be good. I don't think we'll be 2-14, but with poor QB play I could see 5-11 or 6-10, but 2-14 doesn't seem likely, at least not to me...

Bridgewater was OK, but hardly a sure thing going forward. He may well become a great QB. Then again, he may remain as a very average QB, who never really accomplishes anything beyond being "OK". It will be interesting to see how he does with one of the greatest RB ever behind him, a very strong WR group, a nice TE, and a solid OL. He has talent all around him. It will be interesting to see how he develops, but he is by no stretch a finished product, nor is he a sure fire great QB at this point. He might become one, but he is extremely far from being a franchise guy at this point.

Talk all you want YTown, but at this juncture, who would you rather have on the roster, JFF or Bridgewater?
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

That doesn't mean that he will wind up being much more than Christian Ponder though. He might. In fact, he might become great. Then again, he may be a very pedestrian QB when all is said or done. He had a decent rookie season. There are a lot of young QBs who look decent in their 1st exposure to the NFL, and then accomplish little from there out. Maybe Bridgewater beats the odds, but it is way too early to say that he has, in fact, done so.

why are we still debating this though?
Teddy had a good season for a rookie. But let's take into account where he played. his coach, all these other factors.
For all we know, he could've took us to the playoffs if he played for the browns. for all we know, he could've been just as horrible as Manziel. for all we know, he could've played and broke a leg.
I don't get this. He's not on the squad, he won't ever be on the squad. the thread says 2016-2017. not 2014.

Top 2016 NFL QB Prospects:
Connor Cook QB/Michigan State. Christian Hackenberg QB/Penn State. Cardale Jones QB/Ohio State. Jonathan Goff QB/California Dak Prescott QB/Mississippi State. Cody Kessler QB/USC. Gunner Kiel QB/Cincinnati.
Top 2016 NFL QB Free Agents:
Eli Manning - New York Giants (Probably won't make it to free agency). Philip Rivers - San Diego Chargers (MIGHT make it to free agency). Sam Bradford - Philadelphia Eagles (Can't remember if he signed an extension or not?) Chase Daniel - Kansas City. Chad Henne - Jacksonville. Christian Ponder - Oakland. Russell Wilson - Seattle. (No chance in hell he hits free agency). Austin Davis - St. Louis. Brock Osweiler - Denver. Kirk Cousins - Washington.
There are more, but those were at the top of the list.
Of the free agent QB's I think the most interesting names would be Kirk Cousins, Brock Osweiler, Austin Davis, Chase Daniel and yes obviously Philip Rivers if he actually hits the market.

Are you actually still holding a torch for Hoyer? LOL... Hoyer is the 31st worst qb in the league and of course our starter McCown is the 32nd worst. They are both the same. They SUCK!

The offense that Hoyer was operating under, I'm sorry, but many other below average QBs could shine and relish with what Hoyer had. A killer run game that gave birth to probably the most insane play action bites that Hoyer has ever, and will ever experience. All with Mack, he also had a wall and time to go through his reads without fear of death.
When things changed and we needed to rely on Brian more, he seemed to have crumbled both mentally and so forth. That was a broken man in some of his interviews. Played like crap and managed to mess up something when the situation wasn't at all pressuring or anything. Just yeah.
Hoyer is out, we all loved his story and etc, he'll battle with another rookie and "maybe" will win another starting position... I am more than okay he's gone. We need a starter, not a backup.
