Sam Bradford is not a Franchise QB.

If he was, he wouldn't have been traded, and he wouldn't be getting traded.

I tend to think health is the reason for that.

Yeah, it's clear why the Rams got rid of him for a lesser QB. The past two years, their entire season got ruined in the pre season because of Bradford's health. They took a talent upgrade to have a more reliable QB.

I don't think anyone is poo pooing the deal just to do so.

Clearly, you don't want to hear it or accept it, but what people are saying (for the most part) is that with his history of injury, we'd have to be nuts to give up a lot for him.

Look what the eagles gave up. A QB that was a 4th round pick (who looked pretty decent) and a couple of lower level picks out of this draft. And if he gets injured, they get some of that back.

At any rate, I think this gets settled in about 9 hours. We'll see.

Call me dumb, I've not made this comment before, but I think Jeff Fisher may have saved his job there by moving on from Sam. I bet his sleep at night is of greater quality since the trade, too.

One teams disappointment shouldn't become ours, we have and had enough of those.

If we do end up getting Bradford, I don't even care if we get him for a 7th rounder, include "offset language" in the deal to protect us from his fragility and health risk.

I will never understand any desire to give away a first round pick to take a fragile, recovering QB who clearly doesn't want to be here and has only played average ball for 3 of the five seasons he's been in the league.

Not to mention...and signing a fragile and recovering QB to a long term contract is pretty stupid as well. I think this is all draftnik fodder as usual.

If our hearts are set on Bradford and Kelly's heart is set on MM then I'd give them #12 for Bradford and Fletcher Cox DE.

It's been said Kelly is willing to deal Cox,(they play a 3-4).

If we make any of these moves for SB we really are fools. This guy for the most part could never stay on the field and he won't here especially with our luck. If we could get him for a 4th rd pick I would do it other than that no. Keep our picks and continue to build the foundation of this team. that is the route I would go.

OK, let me propose a slightly different approach to things concerning trading for Bradford ....

Suppose the Eagles need an additional 1st round poick in order to trade up for Mariota, and the Browns are a willing trade partner. Now let's say that the Browns want Bradford, but they don't feel that he, alone, is worth the 12th or 19th pick.

What player(s) would you want the Eagles to add to the pot to sweeten it. Would you trade the 12th pick, for example, for Bradford and a top player on the Eagles. Would you trade both for a 2nd, Bradford, and a couple of top players on the Eagles? What kind of deal would you be looking for?

As some have mentioned a Bradford, Cox, pick is absolutely ideal for the Browns, IMO.

So would you trade both 1st round pick, for example, for Bradford, Cox, a 2nd and a 3rd .... and a 1st or 2nd along with a 4th next year ....... or something like that?

Really think outside the box .... things that would allow the Eagles to make their trade for Mariota, and also add a bunch of pieces to the Browns, including additional picks.

I trade both firsts this year for Phiilie's 2nd and a first next year.

I take that 2nd rounder, our fourth and JM and trade to Dallas for their first

We get Bradford, a first this year, a first next year for JM two firsts and a fourth.

Or I put down the pipe and stand pat

Not both, no no no.

Bradford, Cox and a pick for 12 is what I was discussing. I would give them both for anything they could offer me.

I think Bradford is a throw away pick up. So what I'd give him is a throw away pick.. 4th rounder or lower.

Bradford is far from an ideal QB here or anywhere. Why is it the Brown's need to always be the goat of draft and reach for a mediocre player and allow other teams to fleece us each year.

JUST DRAFT....forget the friggin trades, and let it come to us.

1. Which team knows more about the status of Bradford's left knee...the Rams, the Eagles, or the Browns?

...I believe the Rams do.

2. The Rams traded, the 1st player picked in the 2010 draft, for the 24th player picked in the 3rd round of the 2012 draft plus a couple of future draft picks. WHY?

...I believe the Rams were very concerned about the health of Bradford's left knee and were not willing to risk their 2015 season on Bradford's left knee.

3. Now the Eagles are willing to trade Bradford, to the Browns for a 1st round pick.
The Browns, a team that very likely knows "the least" about the health of Bradford's left knee is willing to give up the most in trade..a 1st round pick.

I have a problem with this deal because it defies common sense. IMO, the Browns could be setting themselves up to be "fools", once again.

The red flags are there, so the Browns can't say they didn't know.

Also, Bradford as good as stated he didn't want to play in Cleveland...and he won't sign a contract extension with any team but the Eagles.

When it comes to defying common sense, the Browns might lead the NFL in that category...therefore I'm trying to prepare myself to be shocked, once again.

I don't wish to react - calculate study the possibilities set myself to one way and then be disappointed.

I' just going to watch the draft. Watch some of the Bucks/Bulls game in between picks. When a deal is complete then I am going to claim mentally good or bad - pros or cons, Why we made the deal, what was the possible thought process. More than likely I will come to the mayhem on the board tomorrow and simply do my HOMER thing and make sense of it all...what ever happens!

Oh and tomorrow on the thread that asks top three choices for our #43. Last year I put
Option #1 Bitonio
Option #2 Bitonio
Oh and Option #3 Bitonio.

Man can you imagine how happy I was after our PICK!

Hopefully I will be as sure this year and hey what are the odds 2 years in a row the Browns go my way of thinking...lol laugh

I will ask you stop right there to make the point that if one of our picks is the ammo needed to get to Mariota, then we use it to do that, we don't give it away. Especially to Chip-freaking-Kelly.

I think the Rams traded Bradford because they were tired of not having him available, and they saw a chance to add a guy who has played, and experienced success in the NFL.

I don't think that it goes any deeper than that.

And that's all the Brown's FO should need to know a hear and should move on from Bradford coming here. It's a no brainer.

Thats what I'm hoping to dub but will see I am very hopeful at this point that we get a deal but for me you give me Cox who is great BTW and Bradford I will give them #12 and walk away overjoyed...

A huge upgrade at QB and along the D line who could ask for more...

But its not a deal yet, can't wait to find out how the story ends.....

Either way at this point I feel way better about the FO now then I did before I think their trying and sometimes thats the best you can do... But for me at this point I applaud the effort, now I pray they get it done......

I AM Upbeat again, feels good too.

With Marcus Mariota, you're going to see a rookie learning curve. He's a college system QB that's going to probably take 2 or 3 full seasons to completely develop into a polished NFL pocket quarterback. If Mike Pettine, Ray Farmer and Jimmy Haslam are willing to be patient, and give Mariota the time he needs to develop (without blowing the regime and coaching staff up in the process) than they need to make the trade for him at all costs.

Mariota makes me nervous cause I feel like he's going to be drafted into a situation with unrealistic expectations. The majority of rookie QB's struggle, WHAT IF if we go with Mariota and finish the season 5-11 or 6-10? Does Haslam panic and hit the restart button as so many previous regimes have done? I just think if they're going to take Mariota they need to be willing to exercise patients regardless of what the record is.

If they're desperate to win now, you trade for Bradford and just hope he can stay healthy. Trade the #19 pick for Bradford, then draft DeVante Parker at #12, and an offensive lineman at #43, then use the rest of the picks to sure up the defense.

To sum this up.

Farmer, Pettine, Haslam SHOULD NOT take Mariota if their goal is to win now, they need to have reasonable expectations for Mariota because in my opinion, it's unrealistic to expect him to step right in and win games.

If the three of them are in WIN NOW mode, go get Sam Bradford. If he doesn't work out, or gets hurt, and our record stinks at least we'll have a high pick next year. If Bradford is successful, stays healthy and we compete for the playoffs then we can throw a huge contract in his face and maybe his attitude changes towards Cleveland.

Because average QB play would produce wins for the Browns the past 2 years

Correct.

Add to that: If he's "so good" - or even "average", why did the Rams trade him? And, why is he being shopped now?

And why aren't other teams clamoring for him?

Are you honestly willing to give the #12 pick to Chip Kelly for Sam Bradford? See? Even when written out as a sentence it looks totally absurd.

I agree with your point about staying patient with no matter WHO they draft.

If Haslam blows up the coaching staff based on a win/loss record then there'll be no point in having a team.

This FO should be allowed to build their own team and show whether or not they eventually deserve to be blown up.

no way i want to give up a 1st round pick for a guy who may leave 1 year from now.

between his injury history, and uncertainty that he would even resign here, its just too risky.

i mean we have to barter to get him with picks this year, then next year we will have to be the highest bidder in order to keep him here. screw that

If we give them a 1st for Bradford they would have to include a 2nd or 3rd rounder with the QB ... JMHO

First round pick for Bradford? No thanks. That is a freaking ripoff.

If we could trade the 19th pick for Bradford and other players (Kendricks, Boykin, Curry, Cox, etc.), I would be much more happy with the deal.

It seems like Chip Kelly is getting desperate.

I believe you are correct in your assessment of our QB situation.

Bradford won't play more than 6 games, in my opinion, before he's on the DL again. Why waste any picks on that? If the Browns do any kind of deal with the Eagles they are beyond stupid.

I think Mariota could be an excellent QB. And if we could move up to get him without blowing both of this year's number ones I'd probably do it. But the Titans want RGIII level renumeration and I wouldn't (and hope the Browns won't) do that.

I think Johnny could end up being a pretty good QB. I think he has the arm and the smarts if he uses them. We'll know by the end of the year. I've waded through some pretty crappy football since the return so I'm willing to see if Johnny could at least be this generation's Brian Sipe.

The only other thing I'd mention related to your thoughts is that you really need to let the Teddy stuff go. I liked him, too. But that is about 8 hours from being ancient history.

Is it 8 yet?

SB said it so I know it is true and tomorrow his story will be just like today's story............... rofl

With his injury history it's fact, not a story. Just because you seem to dismiss it and take that huge risk doesn't change anything.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
