Great point. The Rams, the team that knows Bradford better than anyone and who don't have a QB, gave up on Bradford. Not a great sign.

You aren't a lone wolf. I wanted Bradford too. On one leg, he's better than what we've got.

"Cleveland Browns Dec 1, 2014 - Johnny Manziel enters the game in Buffalo as a replacement for Brian Hoyer and makes an immediate impact with a 10-yard touchdown run." How many did Bradford run in for TDs last season?

Is there a way to transplant Johnny's legs to Bradford? We can rebuild him after we trade for him...

Did anyone see where Pet said that they don't want to overvalue the QB position??
My immediate thought was if we undervalued it anymore we wouldn't have a QB...
I like the guy I mean I really do but that was a really stupid statement, I wonder how many posters thought that was a cover, for not doing squat?

I thought it was a cover and a dumb statement.
There may be a little friction there between Farmer and Pettine. Farmer opened the presser by saying he didn't think the QB situation was muddy. That was something Pettine had said. So that was a dig at Pettine in front of the media and to his face. Pettine, instead of lashing out, took the high road and tried to rationalize the QB situation. I think it was code for "it is what it is and we will do our best to overcome it."
Farmer said it best in the presser, nearly every single QB in the draft is a project. The only QB who was available but didn't come with that label is Bradford. But the reason he was available was because he comes with a ton of risk. Tough decision.
I am in the you can't win in the NFL without a QB camp, and I can't say for certain I would have traded for Bradford.

If Haslam and Farmer wanted a QB, they would have drafted one.
The front office wants less competition for the starting QB job..not more.
IMO, the QB position is controlled by the front office this season, more so than last year, when Farmer was texting (for Haslam) to the sidelines, when you gonna put Johnny in?
Pettine loves competition at every position, Haslam and Farmer would rather feed their own egos, wanting to prove to everyone they did not make a mistake by drafting JM.
..it is what it is and we will find out if Haslam and Farmer made a mistake by drafting Johnny Football.

Why is everyone still talking about the Eagles QB? Don't worry, when people finally give up on the topic will be when he encounters his third ACL tear and like Tebow, everyone will be talking about it *again*, calling it now!

Did anyone else feel this way.. on draft night it was reported that the Eagles offered two 1st round draft choices for Mariota, I assume that meant this year and next years, but... What if they were offering one of the Browns' picks.. contingent on the whole 3 team deal working out?
We will never know, but with all of the talk of the three team trade, I thought they could have been offering 2 firsts this year, to see if it would be acceptable.

I like the guy I mean I really do but that was a really stupid statement, I wonder how many posters thought that was a cover, for not doing squat? I think that he was honest. Maybe Pettine could have phrased things better, and said that you don't want to reach for a QB, thus depriving yourself of a quality player elsewhere. Would that have been a better way to put it? That is how I believe he meant it. I don't think that he meant that the position is unimportant. We could have overvalued, or reached for a QB, and could have taken Grayson with our 2nd round pick. (which is where we would have had to go unless we traded for him slightly lower) Mannion was gone by pick 89. I loved the guy, but I would not have taken him before the 4th. Petty went with the 4th pick in the 4th round. Would you haver used a 3rd on him? Would you have traded up to that spot for him? I wouldn't have. Hundley? Bleh. Both Farmer and Pettine spoke of getting the right player at the right spot. Taking a QB way before his talent doictates means that you pass on a different player who can help you, and probably will help you more. Reaching usually doesn't work out well, and I believe that is what Pettine was trying to say.

Either or both will be run out of town by Jimmy after we go 1-20. I hope Jimmy keeps Pettine though. If the "texting" GM is having problems with our head coach, I say fire him IMMEDIATELY. It is not like we are going to miss him. He has already done his damage and is already suspended for 4 games. I don't like Farmer. Can you tell?

I don't think Jimmy fires either. And firing either one will stunt the development of this franchise moving forward. It would be a dumb move.
My impression is Pettine and Farmer have a good working relationship. They don't have to be best friends. They have to work together and respect each other and have honest dialogue. That obviously was not happening last year, but I hope they've worked through it. It's the right thing to do to give people a chance to atone for mistakes, IMO.

Just to add to your comments, I am also sure that Farmer and Pettine have talked to Haslam about how they intent to build the team, and what the upsides and downsides of the process are likely to be.

One would certainly hope so... but watching the way some pro sports teams operates it completely boggles my mind the way it appears that some of these conversations don't happen.

That supports a post I made somewhere else where I speculated that Haslam has assured these guys they will get time. I have no knowledge of that, but the way they conducted the draft, and their demeanor in the presser just seemed to me these guys feel very comfortable with what they are trying to accomplish here. The three of them are no dummies ...hell, even Haslam has commented multiple times you cannot win in the league without a QB ... but they know great QBs don't grow on trees either. Build the rest of the team, get competitive ... establish an identity and some continuity ... when you finally hit on the QB, sky's the limit.

Ironic that we are having this conversation on the Bradford thread, because part of Bradford's problem in St Louis was that the team around him was so weak. He had no OL, and he had no receivers. Other than that, he had a ready made offense around him as a rookie. He did have a run game in the person of Steven Jackson, but that is really all he had to help him as a rookie. Imagine if we are able to add a QB to this team in the next year or 2. He will walk into an offense with a top OL, and a top run game, at the very least. He will also have at least 2 very good receivers in Hawkins and Gabriel. (and hopefully more) A rookie QB will walk into a much better situation here than happens with most rookies.

I think you are taking this the wrong way. I think he said it about the CURRENT QB's that are out there. He does not want to over-value the current QB's so as not too over draft just anybody just to draft someone, like some on this board do

Imagine if Manziel is that guy.
Early reports that I've read are that the Browns are cautiously optimistic about what they've seen so far in terms of his commitment. Guarded but optimistic. Actually, the way I read it was a little bit surprised.
That is a good sign.

IMO, drafting any of the QBs in this class after the top two was just adding another project to the pile.
Bradford is damaged goods. If he was still viable, the Rams would not have dumped him.

We don't need Weeden 2.0 or injury prone Johnny read option out there. I figure Shaw or Lewis gives us our best chance and that is frightening to say the least.
