I think you'd have to admit, well then again maybe not, that violence towards women was a much bigger part of our culture say 40 or 50 years ago. Domestic violence and violence in general against women wasn't prosecuted nearly enough. Only is the last 30 years or so has this issue been brought to the forefront and been made a main issue in society.

The emphasis on teaching and speaking out on domestic abuse has been intensified. People for the most part used to turn their heads and consider it a family issue. I know that's not specifically rape, but that too is a bigger and more pronounced issue now and being more well defined all of the time.

Yeah, I think 20 some women got together and started chain e-mails in a conspiracy theory to ruin the reputation of a great man.

Not sure how old you think I am but.. the rape shield laws that were first enacted to allow a rape victim to keep their name anonymous were adopted in the late 70s. This was specifically to give women greater incentive to come forward and press charges.. which has led to much of the open discussion we are having today.

So before you go bashing previous generations, remember everything your generation has accomplished, the way to it was paved before you were born.

In fairness, that does have to be part of the solution.

As for the younger posters who are proclaiming their greatness, I would remind them of all of the rapes and "almost rapes" that ocur on college campuses because some young men have this idea that if they do such things, that will make them men. Sex has become a toy to be played with, instead of a sacred union of 2 people.

I admit that my generation had a huge part in setting us on this road, but the next generation(s) have really taken the ball and run with it.

We're not great at all. It's still a major problem.

I guess it's just not something I thought had to be taught.. It's like don't shoot your neighbor with a .44 or drive your car through the lobby of a daycare... Maybe I give society too much credit for just assuming that some of these things are understood and that those who choose to do them already know they are wrong.
