I never should have asked for the definition. I knew it would open a can of worms. It always does. It's just that every now and then someone, who disagrees with other's opinions, accuses the others of not being a "true fan". Someone did, (not you) so I posed the question to them. When asked to define it, everyone has a different idea of what a "true fan" is. But the truth is, any definition that does not include every single fan his/her right to their own opinion on the organization, players and coaches is not a complete definition. Personally, your definition does not fit me for several reasons. I rarely ever drink for a game, never EVER! call for anyone's head, and it lacks the validness of everyone elses opinon...however wrong it may be. Quote:
I really doubt you own me as a Browns fan, you have NO idea how much I like the Browns.
Forget I even brought it up (the definition). There have been wars on the subject before.
Since you didn't know that, perhaps you have been owned to a degree.
Just yankin' yer chain there.

Ddub I wasn't responding to you I was responding to those who flamed me for saying what came to my mind when I thought of a Browns fan, and it wasn't meant to even be close to offensive and I still don't see how it was taken as offensive.
I didn't mean a true fan drinks at the game, a true fan does this, a true fan does that... You could be a huge Browns fan and not do anything I listed, you could just sit at home and watch the games and never buy apparel or talk Browns or talk on message boards, you could just be a true fan of the team, I literally just typed what I think of when I hear "define Browns fans."
When I go to a Browns game, I expect drunk crazy people that love their team and go crazy the entire time, I don't drink at games, I don't call for everyones heads (I get mad at certain players but so does everybody) and I always support and watch the games and care about the Browns more than any other hobby or whatever you want to call it.
Like I said, I wasn't meaning to be offensive and I still don't think I was.

Just clicking and trying out the new Quick Reply,,,
I have a question for all of you guys,, doesn't matter if you think that Edwards is a lazy, ME FIRST GUY and won't really change or the guys that think that he's trying to improve on and off the field....
My question is this: No matter why he's doing what he's doing with the kids in the Cleveland Schools,,,, should he not be applauded for doing something positive?
I mean, say what you will about him being "Leon" or other names,,, but isn't it a bit on the refreshing side to see a player doing this kinda thing versus the stuff that Pacman Jones did in Vegas?
I'm as critical of his mouth on the sidelines and his dropping of balls on the field as anyone,, but, and it's JMO, this action demonstrates at least some degree of social thinking on his part.. regardless of the reasons for it.
What's your thoughts

You know for all the talk done by BE and everybody else on this thread, he still has not gone out and showed he could back up his mouth on the field. Talk is cheap, and actions speak louder than words.

Nice read, Stabber. Now slap a muzzle on Pudding and let him go catch a couple hundred balls a day. Never met a microphone he didn't love; he's got a bunch more walk the walk rather than this talk the talk. Real priorities? 1) Win a division game. 2) convert 10 short yardage downs 3) Catches should be greater than drops 4) Blitz effectively often What crap talking playoff and 10-6. save the fairy tales for bedtime Go Browns! Win in division this year! May the Elf be with you!

I agree,, but he hasn't had the opportunity since, shall we call it,. "his awakening" to hit the field and do what he says he intends to do...
So, hacking on him now seems pretty useless to me..., just dumb banter..
In a few months, he'll have the opportunity to do what it is he says he will do.. if he doesn't, then it 's time to hack away at him.. I'll join the crowd and beat on him without mercy,..,
But no matter what he does or why he does it, it's still good to see a player give back to the community... That was the point of my question GM,,, that and only that!

His awakening? He gave a half a million dollars LAST off season for college endowments. How did that help him "wake up" last year again?

What has he done, other than "talk" to show any "turn around"? There's a difference in "hacking on a guy" and reporting the "facts of his actions during the season". Unless you feel he's been "hacking on himself"?

After last year? Shallow talk isn't actions. I think the only real difference is that some of us expect to "see change" not "hear about it".

It's always good to see athletes help in the community. But as has been stated,he gave half a million last year. How did that help him perform and act during the season last year again? Sorry if some of us aren't going to "bite" on his generosity again this year. We've seen this song and dance before.
We all "hope" for something better. But we will believe it when we see it. Or do you really blame us for that? When somebody SHOWS you one thing, can you blame people for wanting to SEE the change before believing it?
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Pit, I wasn't aware that he gave a half a million dollars last season,, did he also take full responsibility and promise to become the player he was drafted to become? I don't remember that either by the way...
The point being, sometimes the light goes on right away... Wimbleys did, seems as if Thomas and Quinn have the light on as well... With Edwards, maybe the light just came on that he needs to get with the program and quit whining... Just catch the ball.
If that's the case,, GREAT.. I'm happy for him and I"m happy for Browns fans and the team. Perhaps with the light on, he'll see the ball coming and actually catch it and then go back to the huddle and shut up... Maybe.
He's young, and without a doubt, immature. His actions the last two year prove that beyond a shadow of a doubt...
But if the guy says (just the other day) that he understands and takes responsbility for his actions ( I think he's mis naming his actions but be that as it may) then I have no problem coming up off his back till he has the opportunity to prove it on the field..
And yes, part of my personal willingness to let it rest and see what he does stems from the donation he gave to the Cleveland Schools... Again, no matter what or why he gave it, it's still a pretty neat thing to do... so I'm giving him a break to see if he's really grown up or not..
Otherwise, if you think he's still a slug and all,,, be my guest, but you won't change my mind...

I'm sure there is ... it just doesn't fall under the realm of football ....
Once again belittling a poster rather than answering the question he posts. You do this more than anyone I've ever seen. It's quite funny to me.

Yes,he gave a half million in Michigan for "athlete scholarships". But as far as I know, this is the first time he's "publicly" stated he needed to "improve himself".

Key word being "maybe". How many times in your life have you "heard" athletes or celebrities SAY things that they just can't seem to quite do? He has shown a pattern of disruptive behavior and non conformity to the "team concept" to this point. Am I hoping that will change? Most certainly.

And there's that "maybe again. But yes,it would be a great thing for all of us IF he changes.

And untill such time as he shows differently, other than "words" that's all we really have to go on isn't it?

There's a difference in "coming up off his back" and just "buying into a bill of goods" IMO. I see one of two things going on here when I think a third option is far more plausible. As of now I kind of see two camps..........................
1. Give him a free pass based on his words..................
2. Don't give him a chance at all.
.................in which case #2 doesn't even exist, but anyone not giving him a "free pass" is portrayed that way. The fact is #2 isn't that way at all. It's just the "free passers" way of labeling those that wish to "see results" as "not giving him a chance. ". Which is false.
Here's what we're really saying but nobody wants to accept it.........
3. He's "saying" the right things, but we want to see it first.
Sorry that's not popular, but it's realistic. That's not dogging the guy. That's simply looking for evidence that he's changed rather than buying into "words without deeds to back it up".

A slug? Nobody has said that. But it's a great way to attempt to discredit the views of others if that's your goal.
He has the potential for greatness. But some of us understand that him "talking about it" doesn't necassarily,"make it so". All most of us want is to "see it". Because a "pattern" of his type of behavior is far harder to change than by simply "saying it".
I'll give him every chance in the world once the season starts. And for everyone's sake,I hope he does turn it around. But I understand that it's far easier for him to "talk about change now" than it will be for him to "actually change" when the pressures of the season and his performance heightens.
It's how he "reacts under that pressure" that will tell the real story. Not some media campaign during the off season. So I think we all have hope and wish for the best as this scenario plays out. But "talk" during the off season really has little to no impact on "how things will go" when the pressure increases and the temperature rises throughout the season. That's when we'll know. In the mean time? All we have is his history to gauge his actions upon. Hopefully by this time next year,he'll have some "positive history" to fall back on. But as of now? He doesn't.
Nodody is saying he's a "slug". He has the potential for greatness. But wheather he reaches that potential has NOTHING to do with a press confrence in May or a donation to education. I wish it were just that simple. But I think even you know that it's not.

I don't think thats the key word at all,,, NOT at all... The key word if there is one is forgive... as in, if he performs and keeps his word, then for crying out loud,,,, FORGIVE!

Yup, and thats why I'm willing to wait and see before trashing the guy,,,, some people on here aren't willing to take that attitude.. for the life of me, I don't understand it, but to each his own I guess.....

Slug was a bad choice of words, but I know your not stupid so I figured you would understand that I meant "any negative term",,, apparently I was wrong
