How this guy gets to keep his job is beyond me.
First everyone seems to believe (I not sure) that Haslam made the Manziel pick. If he did shame on Farmer. It should be contractually clear that all personnel decisions are his. Manziel should never have carried a first round grade.
Gilbert, enough said.
West a third rounder who gets moved for a conditional seventh. Brilliant.
Mayle a 4th round receiver. When there was a high need and plenty of talent. Mayle gets cut because he was slow and could not catch.
Teammates questioning how Lenz gets cut when: " I give credit where credit is due & @Josh_Lenz deserves it! I watched this guy come in from day 1 and flat out ball! & showed tons of heart" Donte Whitner.
I have zero trust in Farmer. He has convinced Haslam but to me he is not qualified to carry the title of General Manager.
I cringe to think of Farmer taking the Browns next franchise quarterback next year.

I'm on the fence about him. Thinking he should get more time but also that the leash should be tightening.

Not to mention, we knew there would be growing pains, so let the pains begin, so we can get over them and onward and upward.

Bone, you list individuals but never mentioned team chemistry. How has the team digressed since he took charge? Haslam should fire Farmer after two drafts and one season that bested the last five years? Can you describe the dysfunction between players? I get your frustration. I guess I don't see the urgency to assemble gallows.

Still to early to gauge Farmer but I think he learned his lesson with bad attitudes last year and he really went hard to find the right guys in this draft. He is learning and improving.

There is only ONE stat that matters in the NFL: wins.
Pre-farmer: 4-12 1 year with Farmer: 7-9
We'll see this year. If we regress, there will be talks of firing him. If we progress to 8-8 or better, he'll be the toast of the town.

I agree with this. When you have rookies at every top positions in your FO and coaching staffs, mistakes will be made. A maturation is expected over time. The one BIG difference I see with Farmer and Pettine, is that they are willing to ship out players they drafted. Gilbert nor Manziel were handed a job. West was shipped down the river. Fans used to complain how a current FO favored their draft picks. How they didn't make them earn their jobs. Now they're complaining when the FO and coaching staff holds them accountable and will even ship them out of town if they feel the need. Finally we have people in power that are owning up to their mistakes by the players they put on the field. I'm as upset as anyone by the consistent missteps in our drafts. This is our second draft class by Farmer this year. I'm willing to let things play out to see if he improved from last year. I'm just glad we can actually see a FO who makes their picks earn their playing time and are willing to not favor their picks in playing time. I'm far from sold on Farmer. Overall I have a negative opinion of him. At the same time, if I see positives I'm not afraid to step up to the plate and state them.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

my biggest knock on Farmer was drafting Gilbert over Beckham and Manziel over Bridgewater ... our team would be totally different
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Gilbert, Mayle, West - textgate .... all big negatives.
Manziel - there were PLENTY of posters and scouts and media pundits that thought he was a valid selection at #5 .... so I think taking him at #22 is a wash. He's a project and still a work in progress.
Every single draft pick is a crap shoot. I think overall, there are more positive picks than negatives. But because Johnny and Gilbert were not instant Pro-bowlers people with the attention span of a gnat want blood and more change ... the next year they'd be blaming Haslam for lack of continuity. Lets not forget how decimated the team was with injuries last year too - and we won more games than the previous year. As others have said - judge the team on wins and losses and the total package - not just one or two cherry picked mistakes.
The jury is still out - but I am optimistic we have a good GM who is in sync with the head coach.

You know this to be factual? Or perhaps he wants/needs to learn/understand how the players are performing.

Not a Farmer fan Dave .. And when it comes to undrafted free agents like Taylor Gabriel' Isaiah Crowel, K'Waun Williams , Bibbs ; I think much of the credit needs to go to the scouting staff for getting these guys in camp ???

Pettine deserves the credit for the record.
And just to clarify if you are hanging a bell on a 7-9 record it sure doesn't take much to make you happy.
As brought up by others it is not just the failures of the picks it is the guys we could have had with those picks.
In regard to the free agent draft picks like Crowell one must remember that the decision to join a team is theirs when asked to sign by multiple teams. They are undrafted players.
The free pass he is getting by some is most likely influenced by the fact that most including Haslam are wore out by the constant change that has taken place.

Since Farmer has been here we all seem to like the Bitonio and Shelton picks ... the Erving pick is TBD ... and the Gilbert/Manziel/West trio is a catastrophe from last year
Not to mention his infatuation with NOT drafting/NOT able to evaluate WRs ... Mayle?! The fact he even drafted him is absurd ... I could tell within five plays that Mayle wouldn't deserve a roster spot

Besides Erving has much tougher hill to climb to be a starter. Mayle...what round was he drafted? How many drafted in that round see the field game one first year? Not saying he is brilliant, but I think you are grading these picks as if they should all start. There is some talent on this team not easy for everyone to start like years past.

I can understand your kind of thought process.
However, a General Manager for a professional football team is not an apprenticeship. It is not considered a "learn on the job" position. You don't get do overs.
You swing and miss on first rounders especially at quarterback it sets a team back years.
I am of the belief that there are very talented guys in the marketplace that can be great GM's. The problem is it takes talent to identify talent.
Haslam is very much a part of the problem.

I am not calling to fire Farmer, but as of right now........his negatives outweigh his positives and it isn't close. I don't see how people can bring up Gabriel when we could have had Odell Beckham Jr.? He drafted JM over Teddy. He got a seventh round pick for a guy who he spent a 3rd, 4th, and 6th on. Seriously? He put his nose into the coaching staffs decisions and ran off the best OC we have had since our rebirth. He picked Gilbert w/the 8th overall pick. This is the same guy who said he would rather sleep than study and said "we'll see" if he wants to earn a starting job. You can't make this crap up!!! He chose Erving, who really doesn't have a position. I am not knocking this move yet, but really, no one else was available? He chose a WR [finally] who led the country in drops and was said to be immature and who really didn't like football. What? He chose DeSir in round 4. This guy has stiff hips and is not quick enough to play man. He is a zone corner. To bad that Pet really doesn't run that type of defense. He signed McCown to big money. He signed D. "Alligator Arms" Bowe to big money. He gave Tate pretty good money last year. He has shown no understanding of offensive skill positions. He had no experience w/the draft in his previous jobs. Notice that I have NOT insulted ANY posters. I am talking football. Do you guys think you can respond w/football points rather than insulting me?

The Colts spent a 1st and got 0 return. It happens. That said, it happens to us too often. We crap the bed too often when it comes to the draft. And when handed extra picks ... we crap the bed more.

So who exactly is giving Farmer this alleged "free pass"? I haven't seen a single post(er) that says Farmer has done everything 100% correctly and every decision has worked out. What I have seen out of the Farmer "supporters" is admissions that he screwed up (Textgate), and calls for patience for picks that haven't panned out yet, especially in positions that take 2-3 yrs to get (QB/CB). Past that I see a lot of people critical of Farmer because he didn't draft their favorite Fantasy Football player. EVERY team, EVERY fan, EVERY draft, EVERY year, EVERYONE can say "Look who we could have gotten!" I don't think that's a very solid argument. Look, when it comes down to it, is the roster going in to this season stronger than it was last year? Is it stronger than it was 2 seasons ago? I think I, and a number of others, can make the solid argument that YES, as a whole, this is stronger roster. Isn't that the end game of the GM?
