If Clemson or Bama lose there's a strong chance we can still make it.

1. Clemson
2. Alabama
3. Oklahoma
4. Iowa
5. Michigan St
6. Ohio St

So next week either 4 or 5 will be eliminated ... so we move up to 5
All we need is 1 or 2 to be upset IMO

With ND going down, if Alabama loses to Florida we have a decent argument.

If NC beats Clemson could they possibly jump that many spots?

I think if Clemson or Bama lose AND Michigan St wins - I think that is huge - we may sneak in. If our only loss is to MSU by 3 in really crappy weather followed by a trouncing of TTUN that had the #2 defense in the country there is an outside chance!

Clemson still has two quality wins vs. ND and FSU who were both top 20 at the time. We only have one, I don't think they drop out of the top 4 if 'bama goes down.

So if MSU beats Iowa how does an 11-1 Ohio State team leap over an MSU team that beat them? Unless the upsets you guys are talking about would move MSU up and tOSU up also?

WE DON'T NEED A QB BEFORE WE GET A LINE THAT CAN PROTECT HIM

I think Clemson and Oklahoma are in no matter what happens. We'd have to jump Iowa and hope 'bama loses.

The upsets would move OSU and MSU up. Let me explain this in easier terms:

Next weeks standings should look like this:

1. Clemson
2. Alabama
3. Oklahoma
4. Iowa
5. Michigan State
6. Ohio State

Michigan State and Iowa play eachother next week. So no matter what. One of those 2 will fall below us. That puts OSU at 5.

1. Clemson
2. Alabama
3. Oklahoma
4. Winner of Iowa vs Michigan State
5. Ohio State

Oklahoma is done this year. So they won't move no matter what. We need Clemson or Alabama to lose.

Iowa hasn't beaten anybody this year. If they lose to Sparty it just validates they'd played a cupcake schedule all year. I'm not worried about being behind them if they lose.

Do you think Clemson will drop out of the top 4 with 1 loss to NC (14)?

Iit will be a compelling argument tOSU vs Clemson to get in. When we played MSU they were ranked higher than NC, and if they beat Iowa that will help. NC getting no love all year would hurt Clemson I think, plus the big 10 seems to be a pretty solid conference - much better than the ACC.

It is an outside shot, but it could happen. Being the defending champs will help too.

If it were computers, yes.

But I don't think you can assume people are going to drop either a 1 loss Iowa team (who lost to the team that beat you, or even assume a 2 loss MSU team that beat you, because them losing hurts you as well..

You guys played your first good game against a good team. Lets not assume that jumps you over teams just because..

No assumptions being made. No way both Iowa and MSU make it regardless - it is the "too late in the season loss" issue. which also hurts tOSU. We really need MSU to win to have a chance I think, and of course an Alabama or Clemson loss. If that happens, it gets very, very interesting.

after sleeping on it I think our best shot is for MSU to drill Iowa and for either Alabama or Clemson just to lose.

Let's say Clemson loses and MSU wins
1. Alabama
2. Oklahoma
3. MSU
4. OSU

First of all, great game by Ohio State. The TUM fans were so anxious to crawl out of the woodwork and pile on. Heck, even the national media was hoping Harbaugh would beat Urban.

We dominated them in about every way possible. We certainly were the more physical team.

It really helped that we played up-tempo. That should have been the focus all year long.

Great win and another outstanding season by Ohio State.

Regarding the playoffs:

I agree w/what candy is saying. We have a decent shot.

We had a few things break our way this weekend as Baylor, Notre Dame, and Florida all lost.

Our best shot is to have Alabama lose next week and have Michigan State blow out Iowa.

We would have a slimmer shot if Clemson loses.

People are talking about a 2-loss Stanford team having a shot. We're not out of it yet.

Oh, and I know this-----------Ohio State can beat any team in the country. So, it's not like we aren't deserving.

Random thoughts on OSU's big win at the Big House:

* That place has to be one of the most intimidating venues in sports for a visiting team. It had to feel good silencing the crowd, and then watching the place empty out early in the 4th qtr.

* I think yesterday was the first time I've ever seen Zeke get run down from behind. I still think he's plenty fast.

* I had this preconceived notion that JT Smith is a somewhat undersized and frail QB. Nonsense; he showed that he's very strong and sturdy on the one TD run. Now I wonder if he's not a better pro QB prospect than I thought he was.

* Michael Thomas may or may not be a Top WR prospect for the NFL. His production hasn't really matched the expectations. But he sure does look the part.

* Bosa and Washington are great players - both 1st rounders in the next draft - and MacMillan will be a great pro LB too, but I think LB Josh Perry is really underrated.

* UM fans should be pretty happy with Harbaugh's first year coaching there, but I wouldn't necessarily expect a progression next year, with Jake Rudock leaving. I'd expect a 4-5 loss season next year. On the other hand, I might be FOS, not really knowing what (who) they have in the pipeline at QB next season. Rudock's backup was not impressive, though.

If UNC beats Clemson how do you keep UNC out?

They are a one loss ACC champion.

Clemson would be a one loss ACC runner-up to UNC and would have lost head to head to UNC

OSU is a one loss Big Ten Runner-up.

Stanford and ND have 2 losses.

For OSU to get in we need MSU to trounce Iowa and Alabama to lose.

Oklahoma and MSU are in.

I believe that the Clemson/UNC winner is in.

Then it comes down to the 4th team:

Would the committee pick a one loss OSU team, a 2 loss Alabama or a 2 loss Florida who is SEC champion? If UNC wins then Clemson is in this discussion as well. So I think we want Clemson to win.

They are currently ranked 14th (they'll probably move up due to loses of other teams), but still even if they are 10th that would be a monumental jump into the top 4. I think their current ranking may hinder them quite a bit. Not saying it is fair, but that might be how it shakes out if they can beat Clemson.

Alabama losing a 2nd game to a Florida team that just got smacked by Florida State would be out. Of course, that isn't happening. Alabama will crush Florida.

Oklahoma is in. The winner of Iowa/Michigan State is in.

That leaves Clemson. IF they lose, look for Stanford to get in IF they win the PAC 12 title game.

tough for me to see the committee taking a 2-loss Stanford team over a 1-loss OSU team (especially considering OSU's 1 loss was to another playoff team)

I agree - the PAC 10 is not as good as the Big 10 this year either IMO.

- Oklahoma is in.
- Winner of MSU vs Iowa is in.
- Winner of Clemson vs UNC is very likely in. This is obviously true if Clemson wins. It is probably true even if UNC wins-- Would the committee really shun a 1 loss ACC champion coming off a win against the #1 ranked team in favor of a second BigTen team? I would be surprised. OSU is extremely talented but they really do not have all that great of a resume.

OSU's best hope is Alabama losing. That would knock Alabama out for sure; a 2 loss non-conference champ getting in would be a farce. The committee has said they value conference championships but would they really pick Stanford (or Florida) over Ohio State? I'm guessing probably not but who knows.

J/C about the game .....

I have to admit that I really enjoyed them showing Harbaugh as much as they did after one Buckeyes big play after another ...... wink

His expression consistently looked like something halfway between busting out in tears, and incurable constipation. rofl

Yeah but the point is they will have beaten Clemson... who is a pretty big someone, and will have only one loss, and are a conference champion. Conference champ is the reason OSU got in over the Big XII teams last year. (I'm an OSU fan and would love for the Bucs to make it in, but I don't see an argument for Ohio State as one of two B1G teams over a UNC team that beats Clemson. Ohio State's only significant win would be over Michigan and UNC's would be over Clemson.)

I really think the only way we are in is if Clemson wins, Michigan State beats Iowa (by 10+), and Alabama loses. We might even need USC to beat Stanford. JMO.

22% chance that OSU makes the playoff, according to FiveThirtyEight.com (a poll aggregation site ESPN uses). FWIW, they list OSU 3rd in their Football Power Index (FPI) behind #1 Oklahoma and #2 Alabama.

http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-...ctions-week-13/

It would be great if they somehow get a shot at two titles in a row, but its a tough path at this point. Should've taken care of bidness vs Sparty. But a Rose Bowl berth vs Stanford wouldn't be a bad consolation prize.

So as it turns out...
That botched punt at the end of the MSU/UM game cost the Bucks a chance at the B1G title and probably the playoffs.

And a crazy stat:
MSU beat UM and OSU and had the lead in both of those games for a grand total of 0 seconds.

Alabama is ranked that high because they are Alabama and the SEC is the SEC. We all know that.
