We need to get him in house and speaking to Hue. Even if you wishes no part of that investment. We should give the attempt to have him working hard again and being a good boy.
Its understandable that he is very depressed now, on top of whatever is going on in his private life. There have been many negatives. High Lighted by losing his Coaches that has nurtured him since being in the NFL.
Rather than say Good Riddance and that seems to possibly be the case from our FO and HC. We should bring him back and only that way would he have any worth in trading him.
Right now there is no Battle for his services. Al Davis is dead. Maybe Dallas who are a show as well as a football team. But if not we are talking about Canadian Football League being his next stop.

... seems to possibly be the case ... I completely agree with the way you have worded this statement. Although his future here looks dim, there has been no definitive word as yet as to whether he will be retained or not. I must admit being somewhat mystified by the lack of urgency (for lack of a better word) in getting him in for a "chat" with Hue...

milk..that is an excellent video attempting to explain Manziel's situation. Marshall's story about him reaching out for help when he felt his life was out of control, pointed out what a serious issue it was for him and is for Manziel.
It looks like Manziel should remained an outpatient after his rehab was over. But since Manziel's rehab was voluntary, he likely had the power to say NO to the outpatient program. There is no assurance that would have helped Manziel though.
The individual has to want to get better and in Manziel's situation, one rehab stay was not enough. He may need constant care to manage his condition.
What I find interesting, back in 2013, between Johnny's freshman and sophomore seasons, his father did a story about his concerns about how Johnny was dealing with pressure. So we know that Johnny had difficulty dealing with his demons long before he was drafted by the Browns.

Someone just recently posted that article and I read it for the first time. It's flabbergasting why we'd decide to not only draft him, but to deal and move up for him. All other Qb needy teams were smart enough to pass, our hope our new process/staff/analytics will allow us to see red flags and know when to stay away. The Gilbert/JF draft highlights what many are calling the worst usage of two first rounder, ever. It's hard to argue that.

LB..I read that before we drafted Johnny, but to be honest, I didn't know just how bad his issues were. I did think that it was odd that his own father was telling an ESPN writer about Johnny's issues.
The Browns scouting department either didn't do a very good job researching Manziel and Gilbert's off the field history..or someone making the decisions in the draft room simply ignored the scouting department.
Here is a link to that ESPN story on Johnny...

Nurtured him? I don't think they accomplished much with that. Johnny has been a train wreck. He's kind of fun to watch in games, but I don't think he has what it takes to stay healthy and he's not worth the headache he has caused. Not with his attitude toward work. I don't care if he's hungover or what. You show up to work. That's what you do. It's a job. I've been done with the guy since he skipped that concussion treatment in December. Anyone else would have been fired. That was the last straw. Clearly he doesn't take his job seriously. That is what the NFL is, it's a job. Whether your job is playing the game you love (and getting paid for it) or anything else. It's STILL a job. You don't show up to work, you get disciplined. After enough times, you get fired. Enough times has long passed As QB, he is held to a higher standard. He is the leader of the team. That doesn't have to mean vocally, but he has to act like a professional. He hasn't done that. I'm sorry, but this is a business. We have no time for spoiled brats with addiction issues. Not at the quarterback position. His words not actions gimmick has gone on far enough. There's too many other QBs who do all the right things attempting to make it in the NFL. Whether we like it or not, he's been the face of our team, and it's made us look like a joke. Johnny can afford his own treatment, and he can get into contact with these past coaches who have nourished him all he wants. Hue owes him NOTHING ----------------------- I have 23 year olds who I work with/who work under me who are much, much more dependable than this jackass. And while they get paid a professional rate, they get paid FAR LESS and manage to act professional

If this is true, would that not be tampering? It would. Maybe the NFL needs to examine that, though it probably isn't true. Geez, I never even thought of that. So then, either there is tampering or Johnny is making it up. Maybe it's a typo and what he really said is the he is interested in them.

Let's face it, this was inevitable. We gave him every chance and he blew it. The thing that bothers me most is the wasted #1 pick and the fact we now have to draft the qb position all over again. Spinning your wheels I think it's called. What a waste.

I don't know that I wouldn't call him in and tell him we got you for 2 more years and either you are going to work your butt off or we are going to keep you around and put you on the non football list and fine you for everything and make it so you wouldn't even get into Canadian football in 2 years

The thing that bothers me most is the possibility JM orchestrates his exit from the Browns to join the Cowboys where he becomes a successful NFL QB. It's sort of a bad press equals instant free agency precedent. Hate to wish bad on anyone but I'm hoping he takes his 8 million and disappears. To have the Browns invest top draft picks, time, money and hope in him only to have the ingrate party his way out of town and become successful else where is too much to ask of Browns fans.

I can guess that you didn't get my thought process.
Nurture....yes nurture. He was a total reject in 2014. They Pet and other support systems within the organization. Got him on the right track to put himself into rehab. To have him "NIGHT n DAY" change his attitude to "WORK" those thought by team mates who spoke of him lowly the year before.
He gained the trust of his HC...Yes, he did celebrate and then lied to his HC...who did tough love and took away starts (turned out to be two). Only after his season ending injury and then shortly the impending realization that the coaching staff were going to be fired. Had him slip back into oh frig it, I'm not even going to play any more. Something of that nature.
All I'm saying is that it would be prudent to get him in the correct frame of mind and back on track - TO TRADE HIM FOR SOMETHING.
As for my post, I was giving both PRO's and Con's - If I portrayed them incorrectly let me know.
I'm not the "OFF WITH THEIR HEADS" kind of guy. If it gets to THAT's IT - I'm calculating how to get something for him rather than just cut him to spite my face.

I would assume they've already done that at least once.
I do wish we could've hung onto him, but I trust our new coach. The guy is cheap and, talent-wise, is no more a long shot than the guy we're going to draft. If I had to choose, purely on talent, I'd rather have Johnny as our 3rd QB than Shaw or Davis. It costs us nothing (other than headaches) to keep him and bury him on the depth chart.
But if Hue says, "no thanks", then I'm good with that.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

Is the work to get him back on track worth a seventh round pick? I say no. Focus the energy somewhere else.

jmho As an early-round draft pick with a penchant for partying, the natural comparison is to Brett Favre, who once conceded that he "tried to drink up Atlanta" as a Falcons rookie in 1991. "I had to get him out of Atlanta. ... I could not sober him up," former Falcons coach Jerry Glanville explained. "I sent him to a city where at 9:00 at night the only thing that's open is Chili Joe's. ... And that's what made Brett Favre make a comeback -- (it) was going to a town that closed down." Link

Well I hope I'm wrong, but since it seems we're done with Manziel, I hope we don't waste our pick on another first round QB flop. I just don't see any franchise or even better than lower tier starters in this draft class... again I hope I'm wrong but it's a bad time to be looking for a QB imho. Would almost rather go with McCown for another year or two until the right QB comes along. Or try to get our QB in round 3 or later maybe even take a few QBs later.

If he got back on track and showed similar improvement that he did last season...we would be able to trade him in the middle of training camp. For a lot more than a 7th rounder.
As for his tweets. Maybe his agent is out there checking out the lay of the land after he gets cut March 9th. I would expect nothing less.
Manziel should have only stated that there is interest in his services as a FA if the Browns release him.
Hate wasting picks.

Even if he gets "back on track," what team is going to give up anything for a guy who has not proven anything on the field and is a mess off the field? And they know we don't want him. So does everyone else. Which is why they won't trade any for Manziel. He just a sunk cost.

Nobody is trading for Manziel. And W84 is likely correct, in that, any perceived interest was pre-draft. From Ed Werder on the alleged team interest per Manziel... Ed Werder Verified account @Edwerderespn Johnny Manziel has told people #Cowboys, #Rams, #Chiefs interested in him. Rams had draft interest, Chiefs have none. Thoughts, Jerry? Link

As for my post, I was giving both PRO's and Con's - If I portrayed them incorrectly let me know. I must have missed that part Tab. Sorry, I just saw it as you sticking up for the guy. All I'm saying is that it would be prudent to get him in the correct frame of mind and back on track - TO TRADE HIM FOR SOMETHING. I just don't think we'd be able to get enough for him, no matter what, to make up for what a distraction he is. 7th rounder or not, I'd rather cut the deadwood and stop the Mary Kay Cabot articles on Johnny Football..... And this guy was a favorite of mine in college. He's done nothing but get my hopes up and then let me down (over and over). Missing that final therapy session was the last straw for me. He knew things weren't looking up in Cleveland, the best thing he could have done is auditioned for next year's job by acting like a model citizen. Instead, he misses injury treatment (which he did last year as well). Injury Treatment wasn't voluntary. He isn't on IR or anything like that. People need to start being held accountable. It might seem like a game to many of these players, but the fact is this game is their job. Period. And if Justin Gilbert really missed all those meetings, I'd like Hue/Ray to tell him he's on the shortest leash he's ever been in his life. Slip up one inch and you're outta here too. Heck, I don't even care if they got rid of him now. That kid from Oregon who spent the year on IR is coming back. Desir, Haden, Williams, Kid From Oregon, K'Wan Williams. I think that's the lot of them. Gilbert and his "flawless technique" can take a walk too

Manziel will get a league minimum deal with plenty of contingencies.
There will not be a long line for his services.
It is sad case of a guy with some talent lacking what makes players become great.

Any possibility of them keeping him under contract but somehow locking him out of the facility while they try to find a trading partner? He's pretty much a lost cause in Cleveland so I don't think that would tip anyone off that the team is cutting ties any more than what's already widely speculated. I don't think so. The NFLPA would have a problem with that, and they should. The draft is what, end of April? I don't see any harm in keeping him until May 1. But another angle I thought of today, if the guy died....his GF did say she was worried about the guy, and the guy has been doing some pretty bizarre things of late....just saying that if the kid was found dead, God forbid, it would be pretty hard for a team to not honor the contract to it's full extent, even if there wasn't some provision written in to the contract. I mean, right is right in my book. Maybe the team is worried about that? It's my understanding we, and many of his friends have been trying to contact him for some time to no avail. The guy might be falling off the edge. I hope not.

I have given this some thought and there is "a possibility" that the Browns are being "played" by Manziel and his girlfriend, over and over, in an attempt to get released by the Browns.
But I don't know what the Browns do if they believe that is the case. Bottom line, Manziel does not want to play in Cleveland.

I really don't think Manziel is trying to get out of Cleveland...
What he has been doing for the last few months is damaging to your career...
The guy has real problems. I really don't even think anyone will pick him up at this point.
His fate was probably sealed long ago anyway. Once it became clear that Pettine was a lame duck, Manziel was probably done in Cleveland. Short of him playing out the rest of the year (every game) and blowing up, the new coach was probably going to want his own guy, and also have to not answer questions about celebrity quarterbacks.
Why would you want to play in Dallas behind an established QB instead of a situation where you had every opportunity to start? Say what you want about Romo, but when he's healthy, he's the man there.
I don't think anyone picks him up. Why? Is it worth the headache, the extra media trucks outside, the stupid questions. The TMZ reports, etc...
I love Johnny, I think he's talented, I think he can play in the NFL. But I cannot count on him. It's really sad. He will regret these last 2 years when he's too old for football. He may even regret it 5 years from now.
Cris Carter said him getting cut was probably the best thing to ever happen to him. I don't know if Johnny's problems are the same as Carter's but I think it's in everyone's best interests if he gets cut.
It didn't work out, and it's pretty sad.
I also can't wait for the victory lapping by the anti Johnny crowd.

What makes you think he can become a great QB even if he does get his life together? He himself said he can't see much of anything from the pocket. So his only choice is to run around. He's BARELY 6' and barely 200 pounds. He's been in the league two seasons and ended both of them injured. The odds were completely against Johnny before the off field stuff. He had bust written all over him. IF he had applied himself 100% 24/7/365 he had a SLIM chance of becoming a viable QB. Does ANYONE think he is the kind of person to become a first in first out leader? Of course not. Making the odds of him ever being more than a mistake for whatever team is dumb enough to sign him pretty damned high. He is a punk through and through. That isn't going to change. The day they cut him I will be very happy.

memp...I missed this yesterday...
I might call you out on this in another time, but with JM, it could very well be possible. The guy is pretty calculated. peen...we may not have suffered the ultimate humiliation yet. Brace yourself for a ton of negative stuff about the Browns if Manziel gets picked up by another team.
I'm sure we are going to hear how dysfunctional the Browns have been since Manziel came to Cleveland...we need to brace for that, knowing the source.
If it turns out that Manziel suddenly settles down being in Texas or some place close, it won't be a shock to me. Whatever Manziel deals with between the ears, how complex the disorder may sound, ultimately Manziel may be suffering from homesickness...being homesick for familiar surroundings.
