Why identify yourself? Why not just say you're Ron Mexico or something? Since when has Gordon done anything remotely considered bright?

According to Emily Smith of Page Six, real estate broker Nicholas Goodwin said Manziel partied for two days straight at the Los Angeles property last week, leaving evidence of alcohol and drug use and causing $32,000 in damage.
Goodwin said he found Manziel passed out on the couch when he checked on the property, adding:
They were supposed to check out at noon. Manziel was passed out. ... There was cocaine all over the kitchen table, and mushrooms were still out on the table in front of him. There was booze everywhere...broken glasses over the floor and a champagne glass in a tree. If they don't respond to our demand for compensation, we will sue.

I wonder why with all the drugs he mentioned he didn't call the cops? Seems to me that having a police report of the incident would go a long way in civil court for a lawsuit. Having a hand-cuffed Manziel wouldn't hurt either.

I would imagine that having photo evidence would also help in court...

A photo can't say if it was cocaine or talcum powder. Pot or Tarragon.

Over the years, I've had the occasional private student whose innate natural abilities stand head and shoulders above their studio mates. A few of them went on to excel at college and beyond, making me proud to have lent a hand in their development. There have also been a handful who frustrated me to no end. Arrogant in their naivete, undisciplined in their pursuit of music, unwilling to take on technical suggestions and artistic instruction, etc.
Through years of teaching experience, I've been able to discern the main difference between those two groups: true love of the pursuit.
Those who truly love what they are doing are obsessively driven to go deeper, listen harder, confront their technical and artistic shortcomings. For them, the reward is in the daily journey toward 'perfection.' The struggle is real. Sometimes improvement comes as a slowly-evolving series of long-lasting plateaus where it seems like nothing is getting done. They push through it however, because they don't just love the activity... they also love the process.
The other group is in love with the superficial rewards that come from being " a 15 per center" (those folks who distinguish themselves from the other 85% of their group). These rewards: sitting first chair in honors band/orch, featured solos on HS orch concert night, #1 ratings at district contest, etc. They love the perks that come from the activity, but they aren't in love with the activity itself.
Group 1 students ALWAYS outstrip Group 2's because of the character issue. 'Digging deep' requires a humility and respect for The Art/activity that allows it to forge and temper a better, stronger person/artist/athlete, etc. That process of constant re-evaluation and hard work is what adds depth and quality to their results. I can tell within 15 seconds of listening which group these talented kids occupy by noting whether their results come from raw, unstructured talent or disciplined study/training. It's painfully obvious when one knows what to look/listen for.
I believe kids like JM and JG fall into Group 2. They've always enjoyed the attention, the excitement, the superficial by-products of being better than their peers... but they've never been compelled by a love of football to actually do the work necessary for true greatness. And any coach with as many years in the biz as I have spent in mine can see that lack of discipline in 15 seconds of honest evaluation or less.
And that's why 'character' still matters when evaluating potential draft prospects. Look- they don't have to be choirboys off the field... lord knows that some of the world's best artists and musicians were total hellions... but they MUST have a reverence for and dedication to the activity that pushes them to do more, think more, practice more, and never be satisfied with "today's results." Both Josh and Johnny are getting exactly what they want from having been in the NFL: attention, a jet-set lifestyle, money enough to party whenever and wherever they want, etc. They are all-pros at the game THEY care about. That game just doesn't happen to be NFL football.
Unfortunately, every profession is littered with stories like my Group 2 students- and players like Manziel and Gordon. After a point, the teacher must simply accept the fact that the student wants something different for themselves than what we want for them... and no amount of teaching, coaching or coaxing will help that person. It must come from inside first.
As sad as both these stories are, they're hardly unique. We find them somewhat painful because we're emotionally invested in seeing them help the team we love... but to fans of other teams, they're just screw-ups- and they have their own teams' problem children/disappointments to fret over. Truth is: there are folks like this all over the place, in every single profession/vocation/avocation. Eventually, one must simply give up wanting them to be what WE want them to be. I've done this with young people whom I have personally known, and I've done it with these two, as well.
Why? Because there's always someone else coming up next. Someone else with the same gifts. Maybe someone who's willing to do the work. There are only so many job openings in any profession. They might as well go to those who have truly earned them.
Perhaps the bitterest irony is theirs to bear alone: by their actions, choices and attitudes, they almost always end up right next to "the other 85%"... either sitting in the audience at a concert, or on their couches on Fall Sunday afternoons.

Josh just doesn't get it. Let's assume he manages to pass all his drug tests for the next few months. What does he tell Goodell when Goodell asks why he is hanging out with Johnny Manziel at a house party with various drugs at it, hanging out and drinking with Johnny Manziel at the bar (let's assume Josh was drinking water...)? At best it's a terrible look and just shows an astounding lack of awareness on his part.
Oh and Manziel looks pretty bad. He has lost a lot of weight and has that sort of deadened look in his eyes.

Clem, I know I have said before that I love your writing style and the pensive nature of your posts, but this one has really struck a chord with me. I am a chef by trade. I put countless hours into trying to improve and become a better professional. I missed birthdays, funerals, holidays, anniversaries, concerts, births, and just about every other significant event because I appreciated the process of becoming a chef. Now, I teach and many of the students think that when they graduate the program, they will be chefs. I spent 15 years honing my craft, "making my bones", if you will to get to this stage in my life. Many will not go very far in foodservice based on the things that you have stated regarding your profession. I pour my heart and soul into those that I can tell enjoy the process and do what I need to do with those that think it's an easy path.

No surprise here... TMZ Sports Verified account @TMZ_Sports NFL's Josh Gordon -- Partying with Manziel at Coachella (PHOTOS & VIDEO) Link His eyes look like more than just booze. Gordon "hanging out" with Manziel cannot end well. I am going to say, right now, that I do not believe that Gordon will be reinstated this season. I just don't see how. Maybe he thinks that he is sticking with his friend ..... maybe he thinks that it's cool to hang out with Manziel ..... but I just see no way this turns out well. How very sad.

'NFL'S JOSH GORDON I'M STILL HOT BOXIN' ... To Detox'http://www.tmz.com/2016/04/25/josh-gordon-yoga-photos/#ixzz46swRpWFwNFL star Josh Gordon is trying a new type of hot box ... but instead of weed smoke, we're talkin' infrared saunas with virtual yoga instructors ... all in the hopes of detoxing his body. Gordon -- on a mission to get back in the NFL after reportedly failing multiple weed tests -- recently hit up Planet Beach West Los Angeles to get something called -- and we're not making this up -- the "Hot Box Detox." We're told Gordon did 30 minutes of yoga in a 120-degree sauna led by an on-screen virtual instructor. He followed that up with red light therapy in a standup booth, which is said to help blood circulation ... and a session in a hydro-derma fusion bed to help cleanse his pores. Good to see Gordon trying to get his body right -- if only his old QB pal from the Browns would follow suit ...

Stop smoking weed! The simplest answers are often the best. *Sigh* I was all for giving this guy a chance at one point, but he has just abused the opportunity.

Stop smoking weed! Vers this guy is stupider than LEON. By a LARGE margin. That's why I dubed him meathead. Dead from the neck up. Literally. Someone walked up to him and handed him the golden ticket. He said, "No thanks, I'd rather piss my future away". Then they offered it to him again and again. No sale. Hell, play 8-10 years then smoke up all you like.... you can afford a big mansion in one of the free States. But no, meathead sees two paths and by instinct alone always choses the wrong one. It's a talent. Meathead is born to lose. It's his true life talent. More than catching a football will ever be. He's really good at that, he's great at losing. World class.

Man, he abused the oppurtunity about 15 opportunity's ago. How the hell do you get a fricken DUI while awaiting an appeal hearing with Goodell for a year long suspension for drugs? That's like walking into the commissioner's office and taking a giant dump on his desk. Sorry to say I really liked the pick when it was made. But man, I gave up on meathead a LONG time ago.

That's a long time not playing. He might not make it back even if he did get clean. There is absolutely no guarantee the Browns would keep him anyway. They HAVE to be getting tired of meats constant stupidity. I sure am. I would have cut him YEARS ago. He is way to stupid to be on a football field.

People don't get pulled back to alcohol and heroin for "just one more time" after years of being clean because of the physical addiction. One you go through withdrawals and detox, the physical addiction is broken.... it's the mental one that continually pulls people back. Your own mind is the worst enemy you can imagine. That said - getting his body right doesn't mean squat if he isn't getting his mind right. By all accounts, his mind ain't right.

Wasted hope that he can apply his elite, freakish talent and become a football player and help a team that not only wants his services, needs his services but is so damn desperate for a big threat WR - instead of a jackass. Total wasted hope. Don't care if we got paid to keep him, I and many others are just done with his stupidity. Me probably more so than most.

Nothing Gordon doing is currently affecting the team in a negative way. Is it really just an emotional reaction? You know, factoring how many games he's played and how many games/seasons he's been suspended? Is it really an emotional reaction factoring the most recent drug test, coming at a time he knew he was applying for reinstatement? There's emotion to the views, yes, but it's backed up by the reality of this kid over the last years. Him failing another test, is affecting the team, and the city, in a negative way. Keyword, "another". He's a proven track record of idiotic actions and decisions.
