I think the new FO and coaching staff have both addressed the importance of working together. I don't think Haley is the right guy to add to that mix.

Can you explain that comment? I am not in argument here....I just don't get your take.

I don't study asst coaches. What is it that makes him a bad guy......not that I am saying he is a good guy.

Nope. I already told you I'm not interested in discussing w/those who constantly hijack every thread and make it a Hue thread. Maybe you can talk to Vambo about it.

I'm happy for him but surprised... one year as a D.C. And thwt year was underwhelming,,.. I know he had a lot of injuries to deal with Andy a lack of talent,,. But I am surprised he got a HC gig this year... I figured he needed another year or two

The 2 most important hires he'll make are OC and QB coach.

He should make a run at Sean Ryan.

This is interesting and it's exactly what I would try and do:

Quote:
New Titans’ HC Mike Vrabel’s offensive coordinator hire is significant, and....Ohio St. co-offensive coordinator Ryan Day is considering becoming the Titans’ OC, according to league sources.

I just want one example of a scenario like this working. GM (Sashi Brown) and coach (Hue Jackson) are hired at the same time. GM (Sashi Brown) is fired, the coach (Hue Jackson) stays. A new GM (John Dorsey) is hired and is forced to keep the coach (Hue Jackson). Just one example.

I'll give you several, off the top of my head, that didn't work.

Hue Jackson with the Raiders, Jim Caldwell with the Lions, Mike Mularkey with the Titans, Eric Mangini with the Browns, Leslie Frazier with the Vikings, Marty Schottenheimer with the Chargers (fired after a 14-2 season!), ... ...

What is the NFL history of this scenario?

Oh, in the end I don't think it's going to work. Best case scenario Hue makes it through next season. I'm just tired of people whining like Junior High School girls when mommy won't let them go to the school dance.

Maybe we are serious in hiring an OC...if we want a good one they will want to hire their own staff. Possibly we respect our guys to not fire them later on when most teams have their staff already made up.

That's fine. But one thing you may wish to consider. Ever since Haslam has owned this team, the entire FO and coaching staff has been a revolving door. If I were a HC candidate I certainly wouldn't pick Cleveland as a place I'd want to land if given the choice.

Dorsey and the people he has assembled seem to be fairly well respected across the league. Maybe giving Dorsey a year to gain more talent and giving Hue that third season can build an environment where we can land a better coaching candidate next year than we can now.

Sticking with Hue for another season may be exactly what we need to do in order to draw a coaching candidate that can actually right this ship.

I mean with this QB room, these WR's and this O, who do you actually think would want to come here? Would a qualified HC candidate with good odds of success even want to come here? Hopefully the talent level will get better and if you give Hue another year, every candidate will see that he will be given a chance and the time to succeed.

That is a horrible reason to stick with a coach.

I think we could have gotten basically any head coach we wanted. We got Hue Jackson, who was one of the hottest names out there, after firing a coach after two seasons after firing another coach after one season. There are are only 32 of these jobs, they are all prestigious.

Furthermore, the roster is bad in certain areas, but the team also has a ton of cap space and a ton of (high) draft picks. Any coach would love to be able to put their stamp on the team with those assets.

I think the main reason we would be able to get any coach we wanted is because of John Dorsey. Like you said above, he is well respected across the league. I think many potential head coaches would have loved to work with him.

How has this changed with Hue? Last year he fired the entire defensive staff and this year he fired the entire offensive staff, (other than Bob Wylie, the leaker still has his uses for next year) and special teams staff.

He worked hard at getting the FO fired and had to recruit his daughter, his reporter buddy, and the leaker to help him out.

On O it didn't change the verbage or the system. On D we actually improved.

Your FO and HC is what people, well, most people look at. When it comes to on the field, the HC runs the team.

And the HC is the only thing left. There is no continuity on the current team. If we sign Haley who runs a totally different offense than Hue, are you certain that the verbiage isn't changing?

Sure? No. But when looking at the math I would say it stays the same. I mean you have half the team players on O. So the choice is to have one man change his verbage or teach half of the entire team learn new verbage. It seems there's a fairly logical and common sense conclusion to that.

Lot's of things you could argue but math would be a bad choice.

The math says 1-31 and 0-16 are bad records. The number of late plays calls that delayed the game also suggest that a change is needed.

I would agree that changing the verbiage for a bunch of young players is a bad idea if it's done without reason, but game results suggest that there might be a reason.

Mike Vrabel on how much college scheme will come into play for him: "The NFL has the greatest farm system in the world. We pay those coaches $10 million to be our farm system. Nick Saban is our farm system. Urban Meyer is our farm system."

Yikes! But truthful.

Interesting quote from Mike Vrabel: "We're not going to run it into 8 or 9 guys. We're not going to be silly." He said he wants to use a bunch of play action, RPOs, read option. Scheme flexibility.

It would be a good choice for him given what he wants his offense to be. Ryan likes the RPO's and play action.

I never thought I'd see the day when Pat Shurmur would get another head coaching job:

His work with Case Keenum (and Sam Bradford last year) got him this job. Good for him.

And the HC is the only thing left. There is no continuity on the current team.

Do you even understand the meaning of continuity when it comes to football? The HC is the only thing left???
ONLY what about philosophy? What about meetings being held,
what about practices, What about language?

Who says Haley won't incorporate Hue's play book with his own?

Williams is still here right so I don't get the continuity that is lacking.

Lets see we need some improvements on the team.

The rebuild is over...now its time to win.
HC Hue
OC Haley
DC Williams
We are looking to get this. Continuity does not mean you don't go out and improve. It was said from Go that we were going to go out and get a New OC even Hue said it. Its moving forward in direction.
