Kap was not a household name. He was not even a good NFL QB yet he starts protesting and all at once everybody knows his name. I believe part of the reason he did this was to draw attention to himself.

Many players have extended their voices, time and money to offseason activism.
Link say 20. "Link say 20"? Are you having a stroke? Do you smell burning hair? Nope just you back peddling. Backpedaling on what? You made an absurd "liberals were trying to shock" statement that had no basis in reality, I pointed that out, and you've responded with a string of weird and factually incorrect non-sequiters ever since. Backpedaling would've required you making a coherent point to begin with. More back peddling you make statements that you can't back up all BS!

Their revenue increased by $4 billion dollars (from $10 billion to $14 billion) and their ratings dropped 1.7% from the previous year (a 9.7% drop compared to the previous seasons 8% drop).
For a larger comparison, NFL ratings dropped 9.7%, NCAA football dropped 18.6%, MLB dropped 15.4%, NBA down 8%.
An emotionally-volatile reactionary with the power to alter collective bargaining and arbitration agreements is a pretty big deal, especially considering the league is a monopoly.
I believe it was in 2013 that the NFL extended all of it's TV contracts for many many billions of dollars with the networks that share in bringing NFL games.. it is set to expire in 2022, which if you are the NFL, you have to already be thinking about. Sure their revenue will be fine and will probably continue to go up through 2022 because of the size of these deals and we are nowhere close to having empty stadiums yet... but, because TV viewing in general is changing and a growing number of people don't like the protest, now a growing number of people on the other side won't like the NFL for this rule.. It will be interesting to see what the next round of TV deals brings for the NFL...

Keith Ellison Calls For NFL Boycott Over Ban On Anthem Protests http://dailycaller.com/2018/05/28/keith-ellison-nfl-boycott/Democratic Rep. Keith Ellison of Minnesota called for a boycott of the National Football League over a rule change prohibiting players from kneeling in protest during America’s national anthem. After controversy marred the 2017–2018 season due to protesting players, the league is requiring players to either stand for the anthem or remain in the locker room until the anthem is over. The new policy means teams will have to pay a fine if players kneel or sit on the field during the anthem.

j/c: Report: Some “star” players consider sitting out until Kaepernick, Reid have jobsMike Florio,ProFootball Talk on NBC Sports As noted here last week, the adjustment to the national anthem policy should remove any impediment to the employment of quarterback Colin Kaepernick and safety Eric Reid, since neither will be able to kneel during the national anthem. Some players reportedly have come to the same conclusion. Shaun King, an independent reporter who has had several anthem-related stories in recent months, contends that “[s]everal NFL stars have told me they are considering sitting out the season until the de facto ban of Eric Reid and Colin Kaepernick is removed and both men are given spots back on rosters.” King also claims that the unnamed “star” players hope to get 25 percent of all players to sit out with them. If they’re truly considering staying away from training camp and/or the regular season, it will get very expensive. Teams can fine players up to $40,000 per day for skipping camp. In addition to any forfeited game checks, players will be susceptible to an attack on any unearned amounts of signing bonuses they previously have received. And while teams often will look the other way when holdouts arising from contract disputes end, it’s safe to say that owners wouldn’t react well to walkouts based on the status of Kaepernick and Reid. Besides, if players truly thinking about sitting out at great expense later, why not sit out at little or no expense now? The Organized Team Activities are voluntary, and more than a few players are skipping them for a variety of reasons. If “several NFL stars” are thinking about sending a message later, why not send a message immediately? The fact that there’s been no chatter about players choosing not to show up on Tuesday for the next round of OTAs, either due to the new anthem rule or to the ongoing unemployment of Kaepernick and Reid, makes it hard to believe that any star players (or any non-star players) would give up money — and potentially give plenty of money back — all in the name of helping Kaepernick and Reid. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/report-star-players-consider-sitting-001855520.html I don't believe this is true, but if it is.........Bye. And don't come back.

Exactly my point the issue was there when O was pres. and it not addressed in such a huge way by the players as I recall when O was in office.

In 2012/13, Kaep was on the short list of young QBs on the rise to be the next great thing.. I honestly don't know what happened after than but over the next couple years he seems to have regressed quickly

They got older and the cap problems hit. I am not sure it is as much Kap as it was the team around him In 2012, he started the last 6 or 7 games of the season and went 5-2, then posted a QBR over 100 in the postseason.. the team was good but he was playing very well... (granted his legs were a big part of it).. But my point wasn't how much he was responsible for those 2 great seasons as it was that he was well on his way to becoming a household name, at least with those who follow the NFL at all..

Let me help you understand why this started under Obama, then started to quiet down a little, then ramped back up under Trump... Obama in September 2016, shortly after the protest started... Obama responded: "Well, as I've said before, I believe that us honoring our flag and our anthem is part of what binds us together as a nation. But I also always try to remind folks that part of what makes this country special is that we respect people's rights to have a different opinion." Then Trump... “They’re ruining the game,” he complained.
Several athletes, including NFL players, have refused to stand during “The Star-Spangled Banner” to protest of the treatment of blacks by police.
Trump says those players are disrespecting the flag and deserve to lose their jobs.
“That’s a total disrespect of our heritage. That’s a total disrespect of everything that we stand for,” he said, encouraging owners to act.
“Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, you’d say, ’Get that son of a bitch off the field right now. Out! He’s fired,” Trump said to loud applause.

I am not sure it is as much Kap as it was the team around him WOW ... not even close ... They were coming off some bad seasons ... they were sub 500 for all of the previous 4 or 5 years before that with maybe one 500 + season if i remember correctly .... they had made the championship game the year before Kap’s run to the SB .... he played GREAT for that 1/2 season and playoff run ... So they made the championship game the year before Kap took the league by storm but were pretty bad for 4 or 5 years before that ... The next year they made the championship game again ... Kap’s play went down ... teams had film on his and his play declined .. he was still a decent QB that year ... The next year he STUNK ... LITERALLY STUNK ... lost his starting job the following year and then came back and started games the next year and STUNK again ... those teams were not as good as the previous teams but Kap’s play declining was a result of his play not the team around him .. Some say its cause he met the girl that was a big shot in ANTIFA and she turned him into a vegetarian ... some says that hurt ... i have no clue ... I know he had a GREAT 1/2 YEAR and playoff run ... then his play declined the following year and then he went to crap after that ... Kap’s not very good IMO but him not being in the league is a JOKE ...

Ok, I dont pee on the flag, so not sure where you came up with that BS But what if I told you the protest had zero to do with the flag? Would that change things for you? I actually am not even sure where people are getting the flag thing from, what did they do to the flag? By them being on their knee did the flags not fy? Did they burn some? did they drag some across the ground. Come on Diam, stop with the false narrative

You’re roommates with 40 and Diam. That alone proves mental health problems.
