We took the best (realistic) offer there was. It was this or get nothing at all. Period.

I suspect that he was hoping to get released and become a free agent to score a new contract. Perhaps that is what all of his "personal time" during camp was about.... who knows, but it wouldn't surprise me. His return to the league last season was certainly well planned and orchestrated, so this type of thing would totally be possible.

Finally, we traded a guy with an attitude that wants to stroll in late all the time to a team with a coach that will NOT tolerate that crap and a front office that isn't going to bend over backwards to pay him.

Regardless of how he performs this season, he was NOT going to show up like his old self here... in that light, we did the right thing and took what we could get.

I supported Josh every step of the way here, but he earned - and CHOSE - his way out of Cleveland, and we gave it to him, but we didn't make his life easier by any means. Belichick won't put up with his act.

I'm surprised by your reply. In a good way.

I have to admit that you were the first guy I thought of when the news of Josh surfaced. You've shared your history and I know that you always supported Josh w/passion. I understood why.

And I admit I felt really bad for you when the news broke.

Yes. He hasn't been paying it for his two kids. One of the mothers took him to court and Gordon could be facing jail time.

Ok. I looked this over. It's kind of stupid.

$6,765 per month in child support

What kid needs that much dough in child support. Seems a bit excessive.

Not saying he shouldn't pay it. But...damn....

I will always support someone trying to improve themselves; someone that is trying to finally "get it" with recovery.

This isn't a recovery issue.
This is a player trying to play us issue, and I have no tolerance or patience for that.

The more I think about it, the more I suspect/believe that the missed time in camp, the camp hammy, this hammy, etc.... are all somehow contract related; stunts about him wanting to get his rookie deal re-done.

I'm not really, I think he should pay his child support.

It was a little surprising how much it is. But I know nothing about child support costs so...

He is making $790,000 this year. If he paid for his kid, that would leave Josh w/over $700,000 to live on this year. Gee, how can he manage.

I have news for deadbeat dads...........don't have kids if you don't wanna pay for them.

Child support in most states is based off what the spouse paying the support makes ... it has ZERO to do with how much it costs to support a kid ...

Yes, he is

He is many thousands of dollars behind in Child Support Payments

Any other man not a football player would have been tossed in jail for failure to pay. If you play football though, i guess you get a free pass to be a deadbeat....

Facts are...the only contributions Josh Gordon has made in several years is to our headaches and heartache...

Odds of probability always strike true...and odds are he'll find trouble once again.

We all need to get along and talk about winning these next two games (very winnable against the Jets and Raiders) Good riddance to Josh Gordon and the 7th round pick lol

Well, I went into a detailed post about this roughly a month ago. You have it mostly right - but it's not solely based on what the person paying the support makes.

so anyways,

man, if gordon manages to play....this will be the best talent at WR Brady had since Moss.

and we all saw what happened when he had Moss.

I was in Josh's corner all through everything. But when I saw him laughing today on Instagram, that changed. The dude is a freaking dirt bag. This organization did everything for him. They let him get away with the TC crap and even lied for him in the press. I hope he not only nfails in NE, I could care les if he fails in life now. He is a disrespectful, lying, piece of crap, and it is all showing up for all to see.

When the players on this team had no reaction to him being shipped out, it told me a lot. He lives in his mind that he is the player he was in his probowl year. He may still have the talent, but in his mind he feels he doesn't have to work for it. All through Haley's presser, I couldn't help but think that he was talking mostly about Gordon screwing up.

I was all wrong about this guy. He is self centered and has been spoiled by this franchise. The franchise that kept his chance at a career alive, he just spit in their face. I hope he fails on all levels. I know that will sound harsh to many, but to respect a human being, they have to show respect in return.

I'll say this though, if Belichek dumps him, he can kiss any chance of making that big pay day goodbye.

This dude is a con artist and a lowlife. It is very clear to me now.

Brady won't put up with him running the wrong routes. He is not going to change, he is a legend in his own mind.

Good post. I think what's tragic in this is how long the Browns stood by this guy and he screwed them every step of the way.

I find it annoying that some are blaming the Browns in this situation. That's not fair.

Josh probally was thinking "this franchise needs me more than I need the franchise"
especially coming off a 0 and 16 campaign and a offense starved for playmakers.
he felt he could go by his own set of rules.with footbaĺl and
child support payments.
Im Josh Gordon if I dont feel like paying child support or being on time screw them.

Full compensation trade update: Patriots send Browns a 2019 fifth-round pick for WR Josh Gordon and get back a 2019 seventh-round pick if he is not active for 10 games, source tells ESPN.

Hmm.. I wanna look at this for a min here..

This means they make him active for 9 games, then make him inactive and
keep him and pick up a 7th.

IIRC, this reminds me how we did the Greco deal with the Rams..

CLEVELAND -- The Browns traded a conditional seventh-round pick in 2012 to the Rams for guard John Greco, a league source said.

The Browns will only have to surrender the pick if Greco becomes a starter.

*** So all we did is play him on the 2nd play of each game. He never became a starter that year and we never gave the Rams diddly for Greco..

Anybody benefitting from him is wishful thinking IMO. Even if he stays with NE all year, I would be willing to bet they trade him next year. His act does not change.

Exactly. Bill is not stupid, he gave up little to take a chance.Once he sees what Gordon is about, he will bench him when needed and get his 7th round pick. Then he will trade him for a couple more picks next offseason to some sucker.

Or, he puts up big numbers and has a great year with a great QB chucking the rock his way.

I supported him, held out hope.

He's gone now, we're done with him. The rest is just wasted energy.

Some of you need to settle down.

Fact 1 - Josh has given us absolutely nothing in a fistful of years
Fact 2 - Josh is a pee test away from never seeing the field again
Fact 3 - Josh it looks like has not been studying the playbook, nor has been committed to the team, who has stuck by him for YEARS.
Fact 4 - Josh was given a 0 tolerance policy when he returned, and he broke the agreement. Good bye.

You CANNOT BLAME this FO for letting him go. IF you are mad, be mad at JG. I was one of his biggest supporters, simply because i wanted his talent on the field. But at a certain point, you are simply enabling this behavior by accepting it. Cutting bait is the best thing for this organization, and I applaud Dorsey for having the stones to do so.

Bravo.
