How about them or Chiefs/Raiders game and the great names in that awesome rivalry ...
Awwww man......loved that rivalry. I actually liked the Raiders at first when they had a RB by the name of Clem Daniels.
I grew to despise them and really liked the Chiefs. Willie Lanier, Bobby, Bell, Otis Taylor, Lenny Dawson, Ed Podalak, Jim Lynch, Fred Arbanais [dude had one eye,] Curly Culp, Buck Buchananon, Emmit Thomas, John Robinson, etc...Loved the Chiefs.
I remember one game and I bet you will, too......Lenny Dawson is scrambling down the right sideline and goes down. Big Ben Davidson for the Raiders is chasing from behind and pile drives Lenny into the dirt. Otis Taylor comes running up and absolutely slams Davidson after the latter got up. He was outweighed by a lot, but man, he drilled him. I was pumped up about that one. LOL

"We couldn't beat the Chiefs, but damn near killed that horse!" -John Madden (Not that year because the Raiders swept them I think, but maybe the year after)
Yep............he was one of the earlier dudes. I think Elmo Wright was the first to dance though. I think Homer Jones from the Giants was the first to "spike."
I guess this question is just for those of you who have been around awhile. Sorry younger pups, but you can still participate. I don't want to exclude you.
What era--or maybe decade--do you think was the best in the NFL? I'm unsure between two eras. Maybe you guys can convince me?

It's kind of like picking your favorite Ice Cream flavor but the 70's got me hooked on football growing up and the 80's were when my Browns were contenders.
I agree almost 100 percent. I was hooked in the late 60s, but the 70s was when I was of an age that I could understand the game a lot more. Great, great football during that decade. But yes, the 80s was when the Browns got good under Marty's direction and that's hard to forget.
Has there ever been a duo that has been put together after being great? Most have been drafted and became great by developing together. Or one added to another.
I did ... and they were fabulous for that few years together
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

That is a great question. I think there have been plenty of examples of one guy being brought in after playing w/another team, but I don't know that two guys were brought in from other teams.
The closest one I can think of is McCardell and Smith. Obviously, McCardell didn't start w/Jax, but Smith played one year in Dallas. However, he didn't have a catch there. I had to look that one up.

Tim Brown played for Tampa in his final season. Other than that, he player for the Raiders ..... LA and Oakland.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.
Although running the football in this era of yesteryear there has been some great combos not statistically but if you watched the games pretty amazing.
1. Warfield and Collins 2. Swann and Stallworth 3. Irvin and Harper 4. Clayton and Duper 5. Joiner and Winslow Chargers 6. Lofton and Sterling Scharpe, maybe the best duo
Just some of the oldies that you young ones never had the pleasure of watching.
Lance Alsworth was a duo in hiself...man was he good!
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!
The early 80's Chargers not only had Charley Joiner and Kellen Winslow, they also had John Jefferson, followed by Wes Chandler. Throw in the era's best trigger-man (IMO), Dan Fouts, along with RBs Chuck Muncie and James Brooks and you had every D-Coordinator's nightmare. They were pretty much unstoppable, and my favorite team to watch other than the Browns. If not for that wretched Red Right 88 loss to the Raiders, the 1980 Browns - an offensive juggernaut in their own right - would have played Fouts, Joiner, Winslow, et al, in the AFC Championship game. IIRC, that game would have been played in San Diego, and it would have been one of the most anticipated matchups in a very long time. Might have been one for the ages ...

I loved the Raiders, ( I didn't hate the Chiefs, liked them too) I really liked Ben Davidson. That was a smart play by Ben. Dawson had the first down and the Chiefs could have run out the clock. Otis took the bait and got in to a fight with Ben....off setting penalties. Replay the down, the Chiefs don't make it and have to punt.
Blanda kicks a 48 yard field goal to tie the game, the Raiders end up winning the game.
Back in the day, the NBC AFL 4PM game was almost always a game involving the Raiders, Chiefs, Jets, or Bills. I liked watching the AFL games, especially the Raiders...Lamonica, Banazak, Dixson, Biletknikoff, Otto, Upshaw, Davidson,Lassiter, Oates,Brown, Grayson....That was good stuff.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
If people are going to consider Paul Warfield and Gary Collins .. why not mention Carrol Dale and Boyd Dowler .. Super Bowl Champions for 2 consecutive years, then toss in Marv Flemming at TE, way back when the NFL was a running league.
The Cleveland Browns - WE KNOW QUARTERBACKS ( Look at how many we've had ... )
Jerry Rice and John Taylor Chris Carter and Randy Moss Jerry Rice and T.O. Marvin Harrisson and Reggie Wayne Isaac Bruce and Torry Holt Mark Duper and Mark Clayton
The others:
Henry Ellard and Willie "Flipper" Anderson Rod Smith and Ed McCaffrey Herman Moore and Brett Perriman Donald Driver and Greg Jennings Steve Smith and Muhsin Muhammad
I was going to mention those two, but I thought people would say "Who?" LOL
But, you are right. They were very good.
I wouldn't.
The point is there have been many great duos.
Football was played before we were born, and played before most of the posters on the board. Many of them barely remember the move let alone football in the 50's and 60's like us.
All too soon we will be dead and they will talk about the great players in the 20's and 30's....the 2020's and 30's , but still remember talking to us old guys talking about players like Jim Brown and Otto Graham. Then one day they will be old guys and gal's.
Father Time never stops. We get our time, then it ends.
It's that way for everybody.

I would pay good money to hear John Facenda read this post, with some NFL Highlights Music behind it.
Carter and Moss were fun to watch as well ... along with Jake Reed
I also loved Herman Moore from the mid 90s for Detroit
