I guess I should have said "a reasonable response" to use a weapon. No, you should have said "a reasonable response to swing his helmet" "use a weapon" seems sort of disingenuous don't ya think? Like he went for the gun or the knife or the tire iron... no, he just swung the plastic helmet that was already in his hand...

I think you should look at what constitutes a weapon. Not a deadly weapon, but a weapon.
Weapon Definition: ... "Weapon means any thing used, designed to be used or intended for use (a) in causing death or injury to any person, or (b) for the purpose of threatening or intimidating any person and, without restricting the generality of the foregoing, includes a firearm."
Using a helmet in that way most certainly constitutes using it as a weapon.
When striking someone with a hard object, you most certainly used that object as a weapon. You may have preferred I use a different term, but the term I used is accurate and not disingenuous.

Ok, well if we are going to get all into Webster's dictionary and legal definitions... then Rudolph initiated the fight, post football play, by ripping Garrett's helmet and kicking him in the nuts, then came after him again.. so by legal definition, ANYTHING Garrett did after that is purely self defense.

So are you saying that you approve of the actions of Myles?
Because all I'm saying is he used that helmet as a weapon. And he did.

That's all about perception. You either use an object as a weapon or you don't. He did.

So you don't think a person should be entitled to use a weapon to defend themselves against assault?

I know that if I feel threatened, I am absolutely going to use a weapon.

My point, and I think Pit knows this, is that you could write the headline for the story about this 2 ways and both would be factually correct by all legal definitions...
"Myles Garrett ripped off Mason Rudolph's helmet and used it as a weapon to hit him in his unprotected head."
or....
"Myles Garrett used a football helmet to ward off the 6'5", 240 lb man who was assaulting him."
