Suddenly MKC is a reliable source? I guess she is when she says what you want her to say.

Reliable in so much as what is happening. Not so reliable in her interpretation or evaluation of it...LMAO!!!!

...which candidate has been best at drafting OTs?

If he gets that right, we can always replace him later and OL last pretty long.

Hoping that if Berry is hired as GM he can repair relationships w/ some of the players from past regime that Dorsey had clearly given up on like Schobert/Higgins/Njoku.

Those are types that have been let go from CLE in past & we watch make plays for other teams every Sunday.

It very well may be Berry, but I am not putting a lot of stock in a guy that writes for SI Maven, which is damn near a fan blog (The Maven side of Sports Illustrated that is).

Nobody would have been a consensus pick at head coach or GM.

Neither Stefanski nor Berry have held the position before being hired.

Both guys have resumes that would qualify them as potential candidates. Bear in mind Joe Judge and Matt Rhule were hired.

At best Haslam hired guys based upon "potential" as opposed to actual direct experience as a GM or head coach.

How this experiment turns out is anyone's guess?

All we can do is hope it works because that is all we have.

Good luck to whoever the new GM is. He will be walking into the middle of one big mess. Paul DePodesta will have to approve any move the GM wants to make.

Confirming
@TomPelissero
report that #Colts Asst GM Ed Dodds has declined the #Browns' GM interview request. He was more the Saleh fit from their #Seahawks days
https://twitter.com/MaryKayCabot/status/1216728715142553600

I think this further shows that the final two choices might have been Stefanski and Saleh.

I think this further shows that we picked the wrong guy. Ed Dodds is a great talent evaluator.

I also think it has more to do with the guy would want to have say in who he is drafting, and not have to get approval from Depo.

I am all for analytics, and incorporating that. But I think itll be hard to get a guy that has to report to someone or get approval from someone who is working part time.

That does look like where it is headed, but you never know, as much as the Haslams liked Berry we don't really know if the feeling was the same.

If I had to put money on it, I'd say 'yes' he is the next GM. Has anyone else (outside of Dobbs) been connected to the position? I thought the Asst. GM of the Vikings, Patton, was mentioned but I wasn't sure.

Joe Schoen was said to be a possible candidate, but that was when it was speculated Daboll was still in the running.

Is he weary or wary?

If the former, we can build him a nap room. I completely understand the latter, however, and couldn't really blame him.

Since the coaching candidates were told to choose people for their possible GM .maybe Paton is Stefanskis guy and Berry the " I could live with him" pick.

Kinda funny if Berry tells Jimmy to stuff it...

I know nothing of Paton, but I'm comfortable/content with Berry being the guy.

It wouldn't be shocking, at all, that much is certain. It was earned, afterall.

When was it said that the GM would have to get approval from anyone other than Haslam?

If the guy hiring you is depo, hes your boss.

This isn't an IT company, some positions need to be in the building. Football is LARGELY based and run on emotions, on and off the field.

I am all for analytics. I welcome them as a great tool and we should be incorporating it more than we have n the past.

But the guy making decisions that are going to determine the outcome of your franchise for YEARS to come, should at least know the people hes making those decisions for.

Haslam is the owner. He is the one who hired him.

Some positions. Correct. Head coach, general manager, offensive coordinator, quarterback. Chief strategist? No. Baseball and basketball teams have people working remotely constantly, it's not a big deal.

Part of systems thinking, what Paul DePodesta is an expert at, is removing emotion from the decision making process. Emotion corrupts process. Emotion is how you get Johnny Manziel instead of Teddy Bridgewater.

I wouldn't put anything past Jimmy Haslam but my guess is that Stefanski and the GM will know who is in charge.
