A sense of humor is subjective. Some think it is funny to mock others and kick them while they are down. Others don't find that funny. Again, it is subjective.

well, it is clearly satire and that has never been against the rules... but, once Twitface went mainstream there was really no way to not allow it. News sources aren't as clear cut and straightforward as they were when these boards were first launched. Additionally, the level of moderation needed to keep that stuff enforced just isn't really possible these days.

All of that aside, I agree.... this is cheap crap, but it's not really any different than the Mo Carthon Play Book that was done in crayons or all the shots taken at Romeo, or 90% of the other coaches we've had. No doubt, dude is playing his heart out; it's just not good enough anymore. He's the weak link. I agree though, that there's no need for folks to get nasty about it; they definitely couldn't do any better, that much is for certain.

This article is from the local coverage of the Texans discussing the pro and cons of trading JJ.Watt.

https://www.battleredblog.com/2020/10/29/21540713/brb-groupthink-j-j-watt-the-nfl-trade-deadline

Given their circumstances IMO he should be traded.

I have seen this scenario play out many times before. Great vet playing for a bad team going nowhere in a bad situation with cap and rebuilding.

They almost always get traded.

Where? For what? Don't have a clue.

But if it is true that the Browns wish to move Vernon. There must be a plan in place. Be that an upgrade at safety, linebacker, or DE.

Maybe the defense will improve? But if I am Berry I have to look at what has happened to date. The defense is giving up way to many points and yards.

I would be surprised if the Browns remain pat come Tuesday or before.

I understand. I worded that wrong. I wasn't taking a shot at you. Choosing reputable sites is up to us posters. Oh well, not a big deal. I just don't find picking on people very funny.

Do the Browns have a galvanizing leader on D? I think JJ could be as valuable from a tone setting perspective as he would be as a very good player to add to the D Line. I'm not advocating to trade Vernon - but considering we have such an elite player in MG on one slot along the line, it is telling that we are struggling to get consistent pressure from elsewhere.

Adding JJ - even if you spell him frequently - getting Greedy back, potentially moving Mitchel to FS. I think that would change this D significantly. No idea if it's possible. I agree HOU would be wise to get what they can for him.

The more things change the more they stay the same.

Sendejo 'article' - I'll admit that I laughed. You're probably right about it being low-brow... I have a hard time conjuring sympathy for a guy that is getting paid handsomely (compared to us normal folk), but is universally recognized as a terrible performer. I'll admit I'm probably in the wrong here.

Trading Vernon. I'm no Vernon fan (I was last year, though), but trading him and creating a hole is not wise. Dline is the lone strength of this D, and as ineffective as Vernon has been, getting rid of him will hurt. I could possible be good with this if Claiborn was healthy, but he's not. He has an injury that will nag and hamper him for the rest of the season.

From JJ's perspective. The team is looking for a GM and head coach. He knows the status of the team in regards to talent and what needs to happen to upgrade.

He must know they are years away. At 31 if he remains what are his chances of playing for a contender?

If JJ asks to be traded. My guess he will ask to go play with his brother.

So that would be bad. But where to be traded will all depends upon what they can get and who is offering.

Not quite Trent Williams because Williams refused to play for Washington. But similar in some regards.

I think he will be traded.

I don't think Vernon is as bad as some think, although I will say his PFF grade is down this year compared to year's past. Getting rid of him w/out acquiring a replacement makes no sense at all and I don't believe that is an option. Claiborne is a one-dimensional player w/a physical issue that prevents him from doing some things. He'll never be a guy you want to start ever again.

Vernon being injured to end the year last season and then not being available for a good chunk of the start of the season was really frustrating, and combined with not doing much against a bad and banged up Cinci Oline kinda sealed my opinion of him. I was 100% in his corner last year but I've just kinda had enough.

Frustrating to pay a guy based on his potential but not get anywhere near that in terms of performance.

I can't help but feel like the "Vernon on the block" rumor is coming from "sources" who don't follow the Browns very closely. I say that not because he's playing great, but because he re-structured his contract to be much more friendly to the team and is playing at a serviceable level...maybe even slightly above that.

We have Vernon, Clayborne (injured but was always a rotational guy) and Gustin. Even if we got Watt, I'd still keep those (3) guys.

Unrelated:

I kind of feel bad for Duke Johnson and DeShaun Watson. Duke thought he was escaping eternal disfunction only to go the the team that stole the disfunction-baton from us.

DeShaun likely thought he dodged a bullet by us not drafting him...only to unwittingly step right into that buckshot.

LOL.....I wasn't trying to get you to support him. I'm just saying I can't see us getting rid of him w/out acquiring a replacement. Relying on Claiborne and Gustin are not viable options in my opinion.

This article is from the Pat's.

Interesting because of the players mentioned.

Gilmore, Kerrigan.

Curious to see what Berry is going to do?

There are number of intriguing options.

Don't they also have a free safety that is pretty consistently decent?
Justin Reid?

I think I'd see if we can get him. Hell, try to snag him AND JJ, then get Grady Jarrett from ATL.

There has to be countless players we haven't even heard of who are hands down better then Sendejo.

Supposedly, the Vikings' Anthony Harris is available. I'd consider offering a 3rd; maybe structure it to be able to escalate as high as a 2nd. Maybe throw in a 4th, too. Yes, he was franchised and that would be two 1st's, but that is based on his 2019 performance. His 2020 performance does not warrant anything approaching franchise compensation.

Of course, there would have to be a long term deal in there as part of it.

Ditto for the Broncos' Justin Simmons.

That's the main reason why I enter this thread every few hours. I'm hoping for one of those announcements.

Ahhh. yes the Vickers fullback sweep...

There will be no playoffs. Can’t play with who we have out there and compounding it with garbage playcalling and worse execution. We don’t have good skill players on offense period. Browns 20 - Bears 17.

Here are a few things I'd consider doing (in no order)

1) David Njoku to CAR for WR/RB Curtis Samuel. I know player for player trades are rare, but this gets Carolina an athletic tight end and Cleveland gets some speed and diversity. Njoku's salary next year and Samuel's lack of contract next year may alter trade compensation.

2) 2021 5th round pick to ATL for DE Takk McKinley, with additional incentives to ATL if he signs a deal with CLE and playing time in 2021. Atlanta is rumored to be shopping him due to lack of performance and scheme change. 8 games as a backup would give us enough time to see if a location change will help the former 1st rounder. If not, we end up throwing away a 5th rounder.

3) 2021 3rd round pick to DEN for FS, Justin Simmons but this would require a long term deal. Potential added incentives for Denver in 2022 based on 2020/2021 performance. (Same as Purp's idea above)

4) 2021 4th round pick and 2022 TBD pick to NYJ for Quinnen Williams. Similar to Takk, maybe a change will have him live up to his draft spot. Jets say they are not trading him, but the rumors still are out there that they are.

If Golden Tate weren't so expensive, he'd be on the list. This all being said, I don't think we do anything between now and Tuesday.

I don't focus on him. I watch him close here and there but not all the time. I saw him get man handled on a play in the Steeler game.

He is getting a lot of money and we need more from that position.

My guess is we move him.

He is playing really really poorly this season.

Such a shame was really hoping he'd be the Bud Dupree to Garrett's TJ Watt.

We most likely cut him end of year, so if we can unload his contract the FO will probably jump at even a late round offer.

All interesting takes.

I feel pretty good about our receivers. Hodge has good size and speed. He will get his chance to make a name for himself. He has been brought along by the Browns and I think the coaches like him.

We know what Higgins can do. He is not going to knock you over with size or speed. But he runs good routes and he knows how to work with Baker.

DPJ is a young guy learning the ropes. He has good physical tools. He has worked hard at being prepared for when his number is called. Cinci was his first big game. He should be able to build from it.

None of these guys are Odell. However, we still have my guy Landry. DPJ, Hig, and Hodge will be a committee. I have confidence in them. I think we will be good there.

Vernon is ok. But considering the cost there maybe better options available.

Wilson is working his way back. Malcolm Smith IMO has been our best LB. Phillips has been hurt. The rest Taki, Goodson, & Tae Davis to date have not done much.

To me the deal is not so much the individual it is unit performance. Not good.

Hopefully Greedy returns healthy. But he still has to prove himself. Ward is outstanding period.

Mitchell is a Dorsey guy. He went to KC. Prior to that he was cut like four times in short order. I give him credit for playing decent.

Joseph and Sendejo have not got it done. We need secondary help.

We need more pressure on the QB. And we need a LB who can cover and tackle.

Not easy to fix everything at a trade deadline. You try to improve as best you can. You need available people and a trade partner. So, none of it is automatic.

You forgot about

Bryant, Hooper, and Njoku. I can see more heavy packages with 2 or 3 TE's.

Also, the Browns are in good positing with Hunt and Chubb (when he returns)

Personally I'd like to keep Njoku. When healthy he is a threat and he does catch the ball. Now would not be a good time to trade especially with OBJ out.JMO

this came today as a list of possible targets:

I don't see WFT giving up Kerrigan when they are still in the division race. Anthony Harris, Will Fuller, and Justin Simmons make a ton of sense (although none are under contract for the 2021 season).

Simmons makes the most sense to me out of that list... from a team need and from Joe Woods knowing him. What he or any of those players would cost is an unknown and while Berry is quoted as wanting to aggressively acquire talent - I also think he believes in the value of draft capital. Going to be interesting ... with how good the Ravens and Pit look this year, I don't want any short term leases, I think if you go get someone you need them to contribute at least a couple years.

Harris also has played for a bunch of our coaches.

I had not thought about Kerrigan but he intrigues me. He should be pretty affordable as well. I see him more as an addition to than replacement for Oliver.

I like Harris at safety if Stefanski likes him as he knows his football IQ and work ethic better than any of us. Alternatively at safety Justin Simmons would be my #1 choice as a player but I think the price is going to be a lot which would be more than I think we would be willing to spend.

I am surprised Desmond King is listed as a box safety. I hadn't paid a lot of attention to him but always thought of him as more of a FS. With Joseph and the emergence of Harrison, I think we are actually okay at box safety. We need an upgrade at the FS position more than any other.

I'm not really convinced we are going to make any substantial moves before the deadline. But if I had to name one move at the top of my wish list, it would be Simmons. A versatile S that can be depended on.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Will Fuller would be a nice get for us IMO ... he’s a bit injury prone, but he’s fast and has playmaking ability

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

One thing that complicates matters in regards to a safety is the investment in Delpit.

He was going to play a big role.

Normally I favor the Minkah Fitzpatrick type trade. If you see that a guy you really like is available and will be a long term player for you. Go get him. Fitz cost a first. He was worth it.

However, it is all about market availability.

Simmons makes some sense because he has played both FS and SS. And of course Woods knows him.

After the bye we may get back Chubb, Teller, Greedy, and Hooper back. No matter about Sunday. We have control of getting into the playoffs.

If we are to actually get somewhere this trade deadline could make the difference.

Harrison is making strides of working into the lineup.

This is where collaborative thinking comes into play. Berry and Stefanski will look at short term help and long term investment. Then weigh what would help now without wreaking the future.

This is where GM's earn their keep.

I see what you're saying on one hand, yet I don't on the other. You really need two quality starting S's. By drafting Delpit you have a cheap project at one of your S positions. A draft pick is a wonderful thing. And as with every Browns fan you hope that pick works out. As of now we have seen nothing on the field of play to see any indication whether he will or won't be the answer at the position.

But if one looks at the odds of a mid second round pick becoming a quality starter, that better not be your only plan. Having Deplit on a second round rookie deal makes it the perfect scenario with which to bring a quality veteran at the S position. Not only does it help shore up the position for now, if and when Deplit shows he can live up to the hope we have in him, it would make the S position an area of strength.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

I wouldn't get too hung up on Delpit. He was a 2nd round draft pick (albeit felt by many to be a steal) who had a severe injury that is very hard to come back from. Who knows if let alone when he will be able to play again and at what level.

Don't blame the clown for acting like a clown.
Ask yourself why you keep going to the circus.

Bone - I agree the Delpit pick and subsequent injury really muddies the water and only Berry knows what they think long-term on that front.

Personally to Jester's point here I think you have to plan on Delpit being a very serious question mark to be starting next year at FS for the Browns. If it happened and he played close to his potential it would be a huge bonus. . . but with the injury history and the seriousness of what he is overcoming this year .... I think you have to plan on having a different option that can start. Simmons makes sense because he is versatile enough to play either S position. If Harrison blooms or Joseph step up significantly, you have lots of options and quality in depth. JMO
