How many guys need to go before we address a bigger problem? Coaches have been blamed. The OL was blamed. People said we would be better off w/out OBJ. Now, Njoku has to go? Who is next? Landry?
The OL was blamed because they were awful last year. 3 of 5 starters from opening day 2019 were replaced. Coaches have been blamed because they have been worse than our OL. Our new, shiny rookie HC has already displayed more HC attributes than any coach since...hell, I don't know...Butch? Statistically, the offense HAS at times been better without OBJ. The reality of that is yet to be seen. Yesterday's wind storm told us nothing. Njoku has asked to be traded and has the body language of a guy who doesn't want to be here. Landry cost us (9) points in a game we lost by (10). No one thinks he should go. The "bigger problem" is a god-awful defense rivaled only by our track record of turnover in the FO, coaches and philosophies. We are a team that will struggle overcoming mistakes and not bringing our "A" game every week...we did it against the Bengals and didn't against the Raiders. We are the epitome of a fledgling team trying to figure it out.

I am in agreement - we are still trying to determine Baker's ceiling in my eyes/opinion. It *appears* that others feel differently and that if Njoku is to be considered tradeable then it is somehow logical or valid that we do something now about Baker.... that's why I was seeking clarification. I don't want to assume what the intent of that post was.... Am I the only one? Or does that post seem to imply that if we are looking to trade Njoku then it must also be time (or past time) to look at changing QB?

The personality police have arrived.
I'll leave by saying I don't think getting rid of Njoku is going to make the team better, just like I did not agree w/those who said we would be better w/out OBJ.
Carry on...

should we actually trade for anyone that isn't just a depth move?
especially on defense, we aren't one player away from competing. we need serious help, and i rather us just keep competing for a WC spot, then go all in during the '21 offseason to win. The only moves we should make are ones that make sense in the short and long term. A stud DT that will be here for three years, or a CB or S that start now and be part of Nickel packages if Greedy & Delpit ever return and are good enough to sit the guy we acquire. Maybe a S that has the versatility to slide to SS if Delpit ever comes back. Additionally, we need the college scouts to REALLY do some crash homework and we need to look at who we might get in the draft and weigh that against whatever picks we may have to give up to get a player. Does a better option stand to be available in free agency in March without having to give anything up? Lots of variables, and given that we are absolutely not a true contender this year, I think you have to keep your eye on the long game and ONLY make the moves that mesh with that long view.

That's odd. I had to ask someone "who is this #41 dude(Spillane)and where did he come from?" he is always around the football, then I find out he scored a TD with pick6 or fumble return. He plays like Jack Hamm reincarnated. He's way better than anyone the Browns can field.
Indecision may,or maynot,be my problem

Great attitude.
Maybe getting rid of him will help "if" we can upgrade a position like I said.
Did I say dump him for nothing?
You have a solution or just want to gripe about others?
Has Njoku proven to worth a first round pick?
Was it not Dorsey who made it clear to him what he needed to do?
Has there been an increase in his production?
Didn't Njoku ask to be traded?
Didn't the team invest in Hooper and Bryant?
If you are referring to me about Odell. I never said that.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Come on Berry we need defensive help at least a LB and a Safety, we are 5-3 and have a good chance to have our first winning record in 13 years and maybe even a playoff birth ... DO SOMETHING !!!

Worse deals have been done?
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

The King deal especially. I must lack an understanding of how these deals go down because I can’t believe so team wasn’t willing to trade a fifth round pick for him.
Alexander is expensive and hasn’t played well this season. I’m not mad about that one.

Worse deals have been done? Maybe so, but who cares about picking up an additional 6th or 7th rounder? I want Berry spending his time trying to add an impact type player or 3 who can help this defense this year. I'm tired of the whole bottom of the roster churn - the inconsequential incrementalism approach. Make a damn move or two, Berry, your conference rivals have shown its possible (Minkah Fitzpatrick, Calais Campbell, Avery Williamson).

The Desmond King trade is a good one. He was being pushed out before injuries, though I'm still not sure why. A really instinctive nickle back who also plays free when needed. I guess since it's only 1/2 a season before he is a FA the Titans got him cheap The Alexander trade is not surprising. A 15+ million dollar cap hit in 2021 with the collapse of the salary cap and he's playing what, 60% of snaps (poorly at that). Dre Greenlaw has been outplaying him for a while now and Fred Warner is the heart and soul of that LB room. Even the 49ers really only need 2 good LBers. I wish we had two.

I do find it very odd and troubling that we haven't done anything lately to improve a defense that is in such desperate need of help. I don't know what the strategy is.

pretty sad we can't part with a 6th round pick for a ten fold upgrade.. This is why we stay stuck. Teams like BAL and Pit, they go out and make prudent trades and get better at all points of the season. We seem to try to win draft and over spend in FA. Getting value at trade deadline is what good teams do.

Desmond King would be a big upgrade it appears. It also appears we’re content to be a fringe playoff team and don’t see the value in spending future assets (however meager they may be) for short term gain

I'm still hoping for something more than an 8-week rental. Though my hopes of the Jets being stupid enough to trade Quinnen Williams have seemingly been dashed.

I don't want to touch the QB position until the offseason. There's nothing we could actually do to improve (personnel-wise) until then, anyway. Completely disagree. Plenty of young players who could have been part of the future beyond this season could have been had in trade. The inactivity of this FO is something worthy of criticism, imo.
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

It's worthy of questioning; criticism is warranted depending on the answers to the questions.
It takes two to tango and the deal and the player has to make sense for us long-term.
We are not Pittsburgh or Baltimore. We are NOT in the arms race for winning the Super Bowl this year, I don't care how optimistic someone feels. It's just not happening. That means that any shopping we do is bargain shopping; finding a team giving us a deal on a younger talent that fits what we're looking to do... and that may not be any of the big, recognizable names we're all talking about and hoping for.

yep. 5 sounds about right.
DE DT LB FS slot CB
For slot we still have KJ this year, but I doubt he'll re-up on a one or two year deal (Mitch is not a slot CB) FS (we "might" be OK with Delpit at FS and Harrison at SS, but I still think we are short in a 2-LB defense) DT- Ogunjobi is not taking the next step, unless Elliott takes a year-two leap, the rotation of Richardson (assuming he's not released to save money), Elliott and Billings next year is not strong enough, IMO
DE- Yikes! Even if Vernon wasn't gone at the end of the year...yikes. LB- ROFLMAO!
Sure we "might" be able to go DE early and hope a decent LB falls to round 2 or 3, but that doesn't clear the other likely holes (not to mention, that is a pretty big "ask" from the draft considering it's so position specific).
There's gotta be a decent talent on a long-term deal some team is willing to move on from. Outside of that, a 8 week "rental" isn't going to push the needle enough this year to warrant much.
Then again, a 6th round pick isn't much for a talent like Desmond King...
That said, if we trade a 4th or better, the rental is out for me.

That is all true.
At the start most felt that linebacker was a problem. It is.
Delpit was suppose to be a big piece. Gone for the year.
There is not enough opportunity to fix all this year.
Woods and KS during this break will need to work on what can be done with what we have?
If there is a deal to be made? Without compromising the future then go for it.
If we have a winning season and or get to the playoffs. All good. No expectations for grand dreams.

I’d take Thielen haha, but I don’t see that giving us more wins. If we’d have acquired Williamson and King I’d have preferred it
