And what is it you base that on? It's not required you yell, scream and treat people like crap to be a leader. What do you know about the inside of the team and that locker room that the rest of us don't?

The players saying that the camp in the Greenbriar in West Virginia in 2023 and 2024 were camp cupcakes. He tried to get tougher and more physical last season, and the defense did play more physical.

So then you're saying he fixed what you think was wrong? You see, I get it. Many NFL HC's slowly ramp up the intensity over the course of training camp. They certainly start out as "camp cupcake" but the intensity increases as camp progresses. I think that same reality is what Ski did. There isn't some one size fits all approach to this as some would like to suggest.

There is a lot to worry about the Browns 2026 season, the talent level of the defense isn't one of them.

Worry might not be the word, I would say concern. If I do that, I have concerns about the corner position. I think we are thin at that position.

pit...it's my opinion...

It's my opinion based on my own experience, playing for HCs who were able to successfully turning their teams from losers into winners.

I've also played for a HC who took a talented team and turned them into losers with his blood and guts attitude and methods.

Now if only you had been in Browns training camp to actually know what went on.

pit...you seem to be claiming that you have been a member of the Browns and actually experienced a Stefanski training camp...as a player..?...as a coach..?...or as a fan..?

Regardless, how we arrived at our opinion of Stefanski's coaching as HC of the Browns...we actually agree concerning those HCs who believe in yelling, screaming or belittling the players as a method of motivating their players...it doesn't work and leads to failure.

Stefanski did not have much HCing experience prior to being hired by Haslam. Stefanski's 6 yrs as the Browns HC might be considered as OJT for Ski..allowing him to judge, correct and improve upon his HCing methods. He might be a better HC for the Falcons than he was for the Browns.

I'm not the one claiming to have some inside track of how Stefanski conducted training camp and whether he called for accountability behind the scene. You may wish to re-read the thread.

Monkin has no NFL HC'ing experience coming into the job either.

What I do know is that these are not kids. They are full grown men and will not tolerate being treated like they are in high school or college. That's why I don't even attempt to compare coaches I played under to the NFL. Too often we have seen great colleges coaches transfer that skill set over to the NFL and fail miserably.

The NFL is a different animal all together. It's not as simple as "Yeah when i played back in school".

The days of Ditka and Lombardi have long past. I don't know if that's a good thing or not. I just know that will no longer work in the NFL.

So yeah, we agree that being overly aggressive as a HC in the NFL won't work. But I believe the balance is far more nuanced than some would like to make it appear. And that outward appearances probably don't tell the whole story. None of us know the inner workings of a team nor what's going on in the background that we never see. That's why I don't speculate on such things.

I asked you, "And what is it you base that on?"

... I told you that my opinion was based on "my experience" playing the game. I played for both kinds of coaches.. a HC who believed in blood & guts football and lost every game...and a cerebral HC who knew how to teach the game with an emphasis on football basics such as blocking and tackling.. resulting in winning football.

Thank goodness ole B & G was fired after that season and was replaced by a HC who knew how "to teach" the game with an emphasis on "execution and football basics."

Watching Indiana win the NCAA with a coach who seemed to strike the right balance between discipline and a team that appeared to emphasize execution and football basics.

Watching the Super Bowl, Seattle ran the ball for 141 yds and passed for 202 yds...a balanced attack that resulted in a time of possession of 33:11 compared to the Patriots 26:49 ToP...resulting in a 29-13 Seattle win...old fashion football, ya know..?

In all honesty, Seattle turned the game over to their offensive line and they produced and dominated and it paid off for the Seahawks.

You can claim that football basics are not important in today's game...I say you are wrong about the type of football that was played during Lombardi and Ditka's time. The proper balance between discipline and teaching football basics can be hard to beat..IMO..mac

You are trying to compare high school and college football coaches of days gone by to the NFL of today. It's like comparing apples to oranges. Ask Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, Steve Spurrier, Chip Kelly and Matt Rhule just to name a handful.

No matter how much you carry on, your comparison has been shown by the failures of many great college coaches that continue to fail in the NFL that trying to compare your experience with lower level coaches really doesn't matter or compare.

Nobody said basics aren't important. They're the cornerstone to everything. But that doesn't help without having the talent to execute and compete with top level teams. Seattle played to their strength. You find your opponents weakness and exploit it. That's how it should always be. That's not old school football. That's just football.

Take note. You can't treat and relate to today's NFL players the same way that high school and colleges coaches related to their players "back in the day". Even NFL rules themselves limit training time.

I didn't say what people like Lombardi and Ditka taught their players was wrong. I'm saying you can no longer lead your team with some iron fist like in days gone by. These players are multi millionaires now. They will demand to be treated like men and not treated like boys by a military dad.

I think this is an idealistic point of view. ESPN polled all nfl coaches and execs and Ward ranked #7. They ranked the top ten, but 14 others received votes, Tyson Campbell was one of the 14. So according to everyone that matters in the NFL, the Browns have two of the best 24 CBs in the league. Campbell was #3 in passes defended.

What I mean by idealistic is, it would be ideal to have a pro bowl level player at every position and back up position, but no team in the NFL will ever have that, it’s impossible. I think Myles Harden, Myles Bryant and Damari Mathis are all quality players. Even if they wouldn’t start for half the league, they are more than capable when one of the others go down.

I’m extremely happy with the starters we have in that room.

I do understand why people have concerns with the depth at CB. But I also believe that could be said at almost all position groups. You hit the nail on the head when you stated that no teams have pro bowl caliber players as backups. In every case you have at least some talent drop off with back up players on all 32 NFL teams.
