ya know, i was just reading a few sites catching up on the rest of the leagues signings- it is listed several times as a 3rd round pick. So i guess we won't know for sure until its posted by the Browns.

Wow! Williams is the guy I wanted in FA. I really like this trade. I doubt a second rounder could provide the impact he can.

He is a strong guy w/great burst out of his stance. I like the fact that he can create double teams but he can also blow by guys and be very disruptive.

Unlike many of you, I hope he plays the Nose. I think he can be very disruptive there. Teams will have to double him unless they want him in the backfield. This will open up opportunities for other guys. When they don't double him, Williams will make plays.

According to Mike O'Hara of the Detroit News, the deal was not consummated and the Lions will be looking to send Rogers elsewhere. The two teams had agreed that Rogers would head to the Bengals for a third-round and a fifth-round pick.

Because they found out about the strip club trouble he had last year ...

In addition to the strip club incident, it's been said that he doesn't get himself in shape and loses his effectiveness as a result.

I always looked at him as as Big Money II.

The Browns are on the verge of addinga player one of the NFL's best teams originally designated as too good to allow to hit the free agent market - a player the Browns targeted internally long before free agency started as someone who could bolster the defensive front both immediately and in the long term.

The Browns and Packers have agreed to a trade that will bring defensive lineman Corey Williams to the Browns in exchange for the Browns' second round pick, 56 overall, in the 2008 NFL Draft. The Browns and Williams have agreed to terms on a six-year deal.

"We felt like (Williams) is someone who, if he did get to free agency, we would be interested in trying to obtain," Savage said. "Once the league year began we contacted the Packers and asked if they'd be willing to talk trade. We talked about it and ultimately came to the conclusion it was worth a second-round pick to get a defensive lineman that has played in the league and has had success in the league."

The Packers designated Williams, 27, their franchise player before free agency began. Williams was a force on the interior last season for a Packers team that finished the regular season with the NFC's best record.

Williams' breakout season came in 2006, when his first 11 starts came in his first 16-game season. He followed that up with another stellar 2007, when he again fought off double teams and played well against the run and the pass.

He had 7 sacks in each of the last two seasons and set a career high with 35 tackles in 2007, one more than he had in '06. He played in all 16 games and two playoff games last season.

He was a sixth-round draft choice out of Arkansas State in 2004, playing in 24 games in his first two NFL seasons. Savage said Williams (6-foot-4, 313) could fit at either left or right defensive end with the Browns and will play inside in the Browns' four-man fronts.

"When we left our final free agency meeting, our three main objectives were to sign Jamal Lewis back, sign Derek Anderson back and also to try to address the defensive line," Savage said. "On the first day of free agency we were able to do that.

"We're excited about adding Corey. He'll be a real valuable addition."

To add Williams, the Browns had to give up their only remaining first-day pick in this year's draft. That was not an easy decision, but it's one Savage said makes the most sense as the Browns sort through their options for continuing to improve the team.

Specifically, he said the Browns wouldn't be able to get a defensive lineman near Williams' caliber with the 56th overall pick.

"A legitimate veteran d-lineman who still has a lot of upside potential seemed to be a good fit for us," Savage said. "Our scouting staff...will get to know those mid level players a little better. Maybe we'll find a gem or two."

I love this deal. I 2nd for a stud at a position of DIRE need. I mentioned this guys in a DL thread about a month ago where folks were talking about Jenkins, Rogers, Hayesworth and such. and I got a responce much like the sound of crickets. It's funny how so many love him now. I mostly lurk so I don't mind LOL. Rodgers is icing on the cake. I'm a bit nervouse about CB now, but free agency is not over.

I have the sunday ticket and due to farve being my fantasy QB this year, i watched A Lot of Greenbay games this year, when not opossit the browns. but sometime had them both on. ( i have a dual tuner on my 52" ) This guy has a motor. Those not familiar with him, will learn to love him. I.M. very H.O.
