yeah Blade right.....let me know next time you have a period
Apparently, I should have explained my position more clearly for you.
When it comes to the physical effects of an abortion, obviously the woman goes through more.
I'm speaking of the emotions that people go through, both the woman and the man, when making the decision to have an abortion.
I was basing my comments off of the following comments from you:
Quote:
I spent days agonizing over a decision that went against everything I was brought up to believe.....but I made a CHOICE....a CHOICE that I live with everyday
You never mentioned anything about having periods.

I can't say they're 'right', but I'm not one to stop them...in my experience every 'convenience' abortion as you call it, has in the end been for the better.
How do you know? What do you have to compare it to? I mean, as for "convenience" birth control, how do you know how the child would've turned out? In some cases probably yes, in some cases definitely no. To say that every case turned out for the better is going overboard, phil, especially when the person involved was not given a chance.

Blade?lets get down to brass tacks....I doubt that you like me....I base that on the "Autumn may be a fat 50 year old guy" comment you made ,but here's a news flash smartguy....a lotta guys dont give a CRAP as long as they are off the hook...capiche? Now I am sure sweet sensitive you are the pearl in the oyster...my period comment was to point out that you, as a guy,<if you are one..hell you may be a 16 year old chick for all we know> have no idea what it is like to be a woman...is that clear enough for ya?

Sorry coach, buit it's "Judge ye not lest ye too shall also be judged"
And what about "Let ye among you who be without sin, cast the frirst stone"????
I know the scriptures coach. And it's God's job to judge, not yours and mine.; There's not much room for discussion there my friend.

I said in my experience...which I gather from the women I've known who've had them. And from my experiences...they wouldn't have been good parents, they wouldn't have been able to provide for the child. It would've been one more latch-key kid with no supervision. Doesn't justify it, and I'm not saying that it would for sure work out that way...but, again, I don't see it in the early stages as a 'child'...so I'm not so concerned about the morality of it. I'm more concerned with the people we have in the world and their well-being. But, again, opinion.

First of all, I was talking about MEN. Not little boys that don't face their responsibilities and run away.
Quote:
Now I am sure sweet sensitive you are the pearl in the oyster...
It's not about being sweet. I'm pretty old-fashioned and I don't screw those who I don't care about. The person I am with right now, I care about very deeply. If WE were to get pregnant, I would face up to my responsibilities. I wouldn't take off on her. That baby is mine, just as much as it is hers.
Quote:
my period comment was to point out that you, as a guy, have no idea what it is like to be a woman...
I'm not denying that. But, that's not what we're talking about here, is it? We're talking about the responsibilities of BOTH people.
It appears that you believe us lowly men have no input on the decision to keep OUR (meaning 2 people) baby. I'm sorry that you got screwed over by whoever did it to you, but that does not mean that men should be removed from the emotional hurting of an abortion decision.

Abortion is legal and you are claiming to be 'neutral'. But your first paragraph right away shows that you are not neutral and are very much against Abortion.

Yes, that is the Scripture, you just used a different translation. It still means the same thing. If I am going to judge a situation or person in a situation, I will be judged by the same standard.
As for the "he who is without sin", again, you enjoy taking things out of context, don't you? As I said before, if you use YOUR conveniant interpretation of said text, then there should be NO laws or punishment for breaking them. The Bible also talks about obeying the laws of the land. It's easy to take things out of context and not look at the entire body of work. I can sit here and quote where the Bible says that Judas went out and hung himself. Another verse says go out and do likewise....another says what you are about to do, do it quickly. All of that is in the Bible. That doesn't mean that the Bible is telling you to go out and hang yourself and do it quickly. Throwing out one liners from Scripture as proof of hypocrisy is laughable.

so let me get this straight..............
You DO advocate that as humans, each of us as individuals have the right to judge other human beings? Even when they "are" obeying the "laws of the land"?
That even if our legal system does not condemn abortions,we have the right to judge others on the issue? Or is it God's place to judge them? And you are saying that it's fine "to cast stones" even though all of us are sinners to one degree or another?
If that's what you're saying,I'm very interested in knowing exactly what book you have been reading and what possible text you can base those "opinions" on?

Just pokin fun. No harm intended. Believe me I'm no saint. And I certainly consider myself more than a little lucky to have walked away from my 20's without unwanted children, STD's, or other such issues. Not all my buddies were so lucky.

Not sure if it is an educational issue, but none of them went to college and some didn't finish high school.

What I advocate is that if something shouldn't be legal, I should speak out on such things. Just because it is legal doesn't make it right....just as you think it's ok to speak out for legalizing something that is illegal.
If incest was legal, should I not speak out against it? If murder, rape, slavery, assault, or anything else was "legal" should I not say that it is wrong? Please, get real. I'll give you an example. The Bible says to obey the laws of the land, we agree on that. There were "moneychangers" in the temple selling goods. Jesus drove them out. What those people were doing was legal, but it wasn't right, so he did something about it. I feel that using abortion as birth control is murder. I will stand against it. Period.
Edit: There is also a difference between judging something as "sin" and determining if it should be legal. I have said nothing more in this entire debate that this should be illegal. Unless you are claiming that people that follow the teachings of the Bible shouldn't have a say in what is legal and what isn't, your quotes are, again, out of context to the discussion.

I haven't read through all of these but here are my two cents: Science has proven beyond any shadow a doubt that an embryo is a living creature. At the very second of conception, that embryo has all the genetic material it needs to live and it is 100% impossible to duplicate. It's eyes, ears, hair, skin tone, and size are all determined in that millisecond. Remember the passage "Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you" We are killing our scientists, our doctors, our engineers. The fact of the matter is that a preborn child has a heartbeat within a few weeks. It takes traditional form in nearly a month. At 2 months, where most abortions occur, the child's nervous system is fully developed and the child's skin is twice as sensitive as a full grown adult's. I challenge the proaborts to watch the discovery channel on demand's program "in the womb" Tell me that's not human. The fact is that there are more people looking to adopt than are looking to abort. The population of this country is in bad shape. It is growing because of advances in geriatric medicine. The under 50 population has remained nearly the same. The result: social security failure. We need the illegal immigrants in this country or our national GDP will decline. All of this boils down to one issue and one issue only: personal responsibility. If you don't want a child, don't have sex. You are responsible for your own actions and the life of an unborn child shouldn't be sacrificied so you can enjoy more freedoms. Remember the root of mass abortion: the Nazi war machine in WWII. I challenge anyone to look at the pictures of abortions and tell me that's just. The child can feel pain. It either has its brains succtioned out and its remains scraped out or it has its skin burned off with saline solution. Some choice for the kid My rant ends here: everyone seems to pick a political party and adopt its ideology. People who are against Iraq adopt pro-abortion stances b/c that's what the Dems tell them to do. I'm an anti-Iraq, pro-life, pro-immigration, pro-small business, pro-health care person. What the hell do I vote for? This government doesn't represent me the people. In the words of John Mayer, I keep on waitin, waitin on the world to change. Keep watching CNN, Foxnews, MSNBC, etc etc and develop their viewpoints and all your left with is a mass of mindless lemmings.

So since the "son of God" who was without sin judged, you have the same right?
You see coach, this is a very hard issue for me to debate with anyone. Because my "personal belief" is very much the same as yours. I believe there are cases that abortion is acceptible. Rape, incest, health of the mother and infant. But outside of that,my "personal belief" is that it is wrong.
So from what I've gathered from your posts to this point,we see very much eye to eye on this topic to that point. The only place we really differ at all is,I don't think I have a right to make that judgement on others. I don't feel my "personal beliefs" should be inflicted upon others. That only God has the right to judge that.
So we're really not all that different on this topic.
General question to those who say "the dad should have some say"; ......................How many young men will "say" that they are commited to having a child, only to walk away from it a little later? I mean,it's fine to "talk a good game" but when the going gets tough, there's no garuntee they'll live up to their obligations. I've seen it happen time and time again.
So while it does pain me to see "great people" who would in all likelihood live up to their responsibilities endure such decisions on the part of a woman, surely deep down you realise that in many cases, they have the option to walk away. So I'm very torn about this aspect due to that very reason.

Also, in the state of Ohio, I would not be able to adopt if I wanted to. So, say I wanted an 8 year old kid that I absolutley have fallen in love with. Too bad, not for me. Stupid backward ass state.

I think you have to put controls in place that would not allow him to walk away. If the father wants the baby and the mother doesn't, he should get custody and she gives up all rights. Much like putting a child up for adoption, but he doesn't have to literally "adopt" because he's a biological parent.
The problem I see with this senario is finacial support issues.

As I said before, there is a difference between judging "sin" and deciding if something should be legal or illegal. It's two different things. I wouldn't want to judge a person's "sins", but I certainly feel I have the right to voice what should and shouldn't be legal.
Charlie, good question, but using what someone just posted, I am against it. What is so hard to understand doing something the "minute before" rather than the morning after?

That makes sense. It means more control and laws on the part of government, which I opose. But there are times that laws and oversight are needed for the betterment of our country as a whole.

Sometimes the condom breaks
In that case, kid that you don't want. Then neither want (or just the father).
Does that mean, that the father has to be forced into a situation he didn't want to be in because of a stupid rubber breaking.
Or do you think we should all be asexual?

I think that people should be responsible for their actions. You know before you put it on that it might break. You also know what the remifications are for the activity. I just can't see the point of killing an unborn baby because things happen. This isn't something that is victimless.
Asexual? No, but educated, understanding the situation, and reponsibility/accountability, yes. Of course, as Magic said one time, the safest sex is abstinance.

I cetainly don't want some one elses kid and certainly wouldn't want any woman to have to raise the constant reminder of a horrible and tragic moment in her life.
I'm christian. Born again. But damning her is not my descision. It'll be between her and God come judgement day. Not me. Not you.
How about the child that is a result of a drunken husband raping his wife.........would you want that wife to abort their child? Because every day I look in the mirror I am reminded of the fact that I am here today because my drunken abusive father raped my mother while they were married and I am the result of that rape.

My first paragraph states a request to consider those kids who were never born and the Moms who may or may not regret the act of abortion. OF COURSE I AM AGAINST ABORTION...isn't everyone...who wants more abortions. For chrissake man no one should want that.
You folks are digging into motives and extracting your opinion of my statement...that is fine. But don't assume that I ever challenge the legality of the act of abortion. It is legal and always will be but someone needs to speak for the speechless.

How about the children who would have liked a chance at independence, but were snuffed out before they got the chance
How about my wife's chance at independence from the child she would of had after being raped in college. Or the fact that I wouldn't be married to her because she would of had a child from that rape and I wasn't about to date a single mom. I don't want kids.
First of all your response came out of left field. At no point did I say that if you are raped you should have to abort the child. And not to belittle your mother's experience but being attacked by a stranger and forced to have sex while under the fear of GREAT physical harm or death is a little different than having your husband... that you've allready had sex with... know his sexual back ground... force himself on you. While both are appauling , they are different. But on to the question at hand.

I don't want any one to abort their child. But I also don't want to tell people that have been raped that they have to carry the child of their rapist because it's wrong in MY eyes to abort it. It's not my decision. It's not my body. It's not my everlasting soul. It's between the woman and GOD.
