The Browns were awarded rookie linebacker Eric Martin on waivers from New Orleans today and waived cornerback Trevin Wade.
Wade, a seventh-round pick last season out of Arizona, suffered a sprained shoulder near the end of camp when he made a diving interception.
Martin, a 6-2, 250-pound linebacker out of Nebraska, originally signed with the Saints as an undrafted free agent on April 28. He appeared in all three of the Saints’ preseason contests and recorded one special-teams tackle. He was waived Tuesday.
As a first-team All-Big Ten honoree as a senior, Martin led the Cornhuskers with 8.5 sacks. A native of Moreno Valley, Calif., he graduated from Rancho Verde High School.
Martin will wear No. 56 and is expected to be available for Thursday’s game

With TEs converting towards being more like WRs it makes sense to change a FB to a RB. Maybe an Hback, but I like the dual RB option a lot more. Unless we are running an offense based around Jumbo packages I don't see the point in having a true FB.

I agree. It has never made sense to me to turn a weapon in to a fat headed blocker.


If that's what you want.....you and others know the drill.

"Useless" position or not - when you are put into the game, you have a job todo. Even Pat Shurmur ran plays with a fb. Every team has an I-formation package, a strong L or some type of formation with a fullback.

Sorry but if you can't block someone and your title is "fullback" - you're useless... throw in you can't catch, double useless... just my .02.

I see it this way. You have 5 OL players who don't score points unless it's some fluke.


Me...I would rather have a real weapon on the field teams had to defend over a half assed blocker/runner called a tradtional FB.


Jim Brown was a Fullback. Ernie Green was the halfback.

Not arguing one way or another. I would too like to have a versitile FB. Marecic was not. Addition by subtraction in my mind.

No position is useless, Peen.

A good FB is not as important as other positions, but the guy can open holes, pick up blitzes, and catch passes out of the backfield.

They are valuable and Marecic wasn't good at any of those things. It's nothing personal, but he simply wasn't a good player.

I'm kind of bummed about Wade. He's tiny, but I thought he would stick (at least on this CB-needy team). I've also finally watched all the preseason games, and Wade seemed to be making quite a few plays.

Just from a # of bodies standpoint, I'm hoping the FO is looking to make a middle to heavy addition for this position.

I find it both funny and sad that Braylon was cut by the Jets...this guy seemed so promising after his 2007 season, and then everything went to his head and no one wanted anything to do with him.....Now he is looking at being out of the league, all because he is such a head case.....

Its nothing short of amazing. The guy has the talent, no question, but his horrible attitude has taken him right out of the game--and its sad that the guy can't fathom that....

I wasn't impressed with Wade at all this preseason. He was out there a lot, but that was about it. He did have a nice INT, but other than that he didn't seem to me to be very effective.

We still have our top 4 plus one of Haden, McFadden, Skrine, Owens, and Bademosi (who can be used in Nickel/Dime defenses) I liked as much of Auguste and Kanneh this preseason as I did of Wade. Given the fact that they are both inexperienced player, they get the nod as far as I'm concerned.

Obviously Lombardi thinks similarly to Belichick, so I doubt he's really an option at this point.

Don't quite understand this move as we are very thin in the secondary and I thought Wade did an decent job. I will be rather upset if they end up releasing this guy next week.

I would have thought Kent Richardson, and Abdul Kenneh would have at least been cut first.
