Who knows?

Last year, Mallett played only in 7 games, starting 2. He completed 54.7% of his passes, for 40 yards, only 5.33 yards/attempt, with 2 TD and 2 INT, before he was injured and lost for the year.

There is not a lot to go on with him. He was OK, but hardly overwhelming in his limited time. He is still as big a question mark as he was last year.

leaving out the strength of the team and the system they play in I'll give it a shot

Hoyer.. 6'2
Mallett 6'6

Both played together in New England.. There you go... hope that helps

Seriously... Hoyer may have better character.. he also has the better feet when it comes to having to run the ball...he's inconsistent and has accuracy issues..sometimes I think he tries to hard to make a play..

Mallett has the arm to make more throws...I noticed at the game this year he doesn't throw the prettiest ball...seemed like they sailed on him.

Another thing between the two.. during that particular game.. Hoyer was holding onto the ball way longer than Mallet..Mallet was releasing the ball fast.. not sure if that's something he's known for.. I would have to think he has that quick release.

I'm not sure there's anything else I can point out..I would have to say for comparison notes.. Mallett reminds a lot of Derek Anderson.

General reply...

I can't believe all of you are arguing about this. Its BS time in NFL land. The draft is coming. Of course Josh is great and gonna be our starter. I'm sure they'll say Manziel is doing well also.

Maybe we do want mallet...think we call the texans and say 'hey we gotta have him"?

Does anyone really think we point out a weakness?

Everything will be peachy until we are on the clock....then we'll see what the fo thinks of our positions.

Isn't Mallett a free agent?

Think about it if they dump JFF today how silly they look for drafting Johnny. If they sign Hoyer, they will most likely have separation in the locker room. Farmer/Pettine's job in Cleveland is riding on JFF at least having some success. If he plays like he did end of last year...bye...bye...let the GM/coaching search begin.

bugs...so the 2015 season is not about WINNING...it is about the front office not looking silly for drafting Manziel?...right?

Your ok with wasting the 2015 season to see if the front office can somehow make JFF a worth while pick...5 wins and 11 losses is ok with you?

Seperation in the lockerroom?...what seperation?

There was no seperation in our locker room last season. I do believe some of the veteran players were pissed about Manziel being given the starting job with the playoffs on the line against Cinci.

Clearly, whom ever judged Manziel as being ready to start was so full of crap, it wasn't funny. Worst QB performance I have seen out of a Browns QB.

Do you have any idea what the #1 concern of the players in the locker room is?

...IT IS WINNING FOOTBALL GAMES !

As long as the front office is doing ALL THEY CAN to win football games, the locker room won't be divided.

But, if this season is wasted just to see whether Manziel is a viable starter or not, I see potential problems from the veteran players. I could see guys like Joe Thomas and Alex Mack wanting out of Cleveland...the only possible way Mack would consider staying is if the Browns make the playoffs.

Based on the current QBs we have on the roster, I wonder if we're just trying to position ourselves for a Colts like plan! Time to go 0-16!

you obviously have no idea about Browns football.

Hoyer signs with Tenn. we meet in the last game of the season and Hoyer plays his worst game.. I mean 2nd cincy game ugly and we win.... yeah ! Hoyer sucks... yeah !

But wait... sine we beat Tenn they get the tiebreaker over us and get the first pick of the draft and get the next Luck / Elway... us ...with the 2nd pick we get the next Leaf / Russell.

I posted this earlier and you didn't reply.

You do realize this is early March, right?

You do realize that the FA signing period and draft are yet to come, right?

Do you think seeing exactly who is on the roster at the QB position come training camp might be wise before acting like the QB position is a finished product at this time?

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

mac: So you're saying we will be worse this coming season than last? McCown is not a step down from Hoyer; he is at least as capable and probably better...

bbrowns32...what are you basing your claim on?

McCown is a 35 yr old QB who went 1 win and 10 losses as a starter last season..

In 2013, McCown went 3 wins and 2 losses as a starter.

...McCown is 4 wins and 12 losses over the last two seasons.

Hoyer is 29 yrs old and went 2-0 as a starter in 2013 before blowing his knee out after 7 snaps of his 3rd start. That is why I do not give him credit for the start.

...Hoyer was 7wins and 6 losses this season.

...Hoyer was 9-7 as a starter over the last 2 seasons.

By the numbers..

Rk.. Player.......Team..Pos..Comp..Att..Pct...Att/G..Yds...Avg..Yds/G..TD..Int..Sck..Rate..

28..Josh..McCown..TB..QB...184...327..56.3..29.7..2,206..6.7..200.5..11...14...36...70.5..

18..Brian..Hoyer....CLE..QB...242..438...55.3..31.3..3,326..7.6..237.6..12...13...24...76.5..

Now bbrowns32..in what way is McCown better than Hoyer?

I think you overlooked the 2013 Bears stats:

66.5% completion, 13 TD's, 1 Int, rating 109.0

vers...I would say Weeden's first year was 95% better than Manziel's first year. He deserved another year..can you say the same for Manziel?

vers...you willing to sacrifice WINNING this season so the front office can see more of Manziel?

Weeden was given more time than Manziel. I always told you he couldn't read defenses. How did that turn out, mac?

And mac, I am agreeing w/you that our QB situation is a mess. I am also to the point where I really don't give a crap about the Brown's record. I know they'll suck.

They always suck!

They made a bunch of stupid moves recently. I think the team is dysfunctional.

I am not backing JM. I am not backing the FO. I am not backing Haslam. I think they all suck.

The one thing that is really interesting to me is how some preach consistency in the FO and coaching, but those same people love when we change QBs 3 or 4 times during the season.

That long list of miserable starting QBs is growing at an alarming rate and we won't win like that no matter who is the coach.

I'm just tired of these stop gap QBs that may play well in spurts, but can't hold down the job. I liked Hoyer, but really he is no different. Yes he can win ya 7 possibly 8 games but I think he has reached his ceiling with his average physical tools.

Signing McCown for the money they did makes no sense. If they just want a fill in for a year why not just start Shaw? We are gonna lose 10+ games anyway and could use that money to fill in one of the many many holes this team has. Then hopefully they are bad enough to get the first overall pick in next year's draft. I realize as bad as this team drafts that the first overall pick is not a guarantee either.

Congratulations to our 2016 NBA Champion CLEVELAND CAVALIERS!!! Greatest comeback in sports history... Hail to the King!

32...in 2014, McCown was the starting QB for Tampa Bay, starting 11 games.

In 2014, Hoyer started 13 games for the Browns. I thought that was a decent comparison as far as the amount of playing time each QB had.

As for McCown's 2013 stats, he only had 5 starts for Chicago.

When given a chance to start in Tampa, all of McCown's numbers dropped considerably. No doubt, Tampa was not a very good team, winning only 4 games in 2013, with rookie Mike Glennon starting 13 games, going 4-9. McCown took over that team in 2014 and went 1-10, starting the first 11 games. Glennon started the remaining 5 games of 2014, posting a 1 win/ 4 loss record.

Now we can see why the Bucs cut McCown.
