It's a civil rights issue. It should be.

Remember when interracial marriage was also illegal?

I just wanted to throw my thoughts out there as another Christian on the board....

I actually agree with you whole heartedly... I don't completely understand homosexuality but I have several very good friends who are homosexuals many of whom are also Christians. I personally see gay marriage as something more of a civil rights matter and thus don't see why there should be a ban on gay marriage...

With that said I would support any church who would choose to not perform a gay marriage because of their beliefs... There are many sects of Christianity and I know some would fully support gay marriage in their churches and some would not... I don't think it'd be right to mandate all churches perform gay marriages just like I don't think it's right for the government to not allow gay marriages on the civil level.

Abortion for me is a totally different topic, but since this is a thread about homosexuality I'll just stop there smile

When did God say we couldn't marry Black people? That was not a question of sin was it? That was a Racist problem.

Homo is a sin issue.

Pork is delicious to Christians. The sin is eating too many chops, that is Gluttony.

That's probably the only part where i agree with the church. Don't force the church to accept/perform gay marriage ceremonies, like a few of these homosexuals are protesting for.

Get married in a court house, or a chapel or wherever else like other couples have. There's a separation of church and state. keep it that way.

Good for her.

I feel like the media attention is a little over the top, but there's an overcompensation in American culture for matters of tolerance, so it's understandable.

Would this duel be with a roll like a Kaiser roll, possibly a baguette? wink

I believe the preferred nomenclature for Jenner is 'she' or 'her'.

Not anatomically. How Jenner "identifies", gender-wise, does not change the fact that he still has an "outie". That makes him a he, at least for now. Sue me for being a literalist, but words mean things.

Unless they can get rid of his XY chromosomes, they may make him look like a she but he'll always be a he.

That Vanity Fair picture just makes me a tad squeamish. I wish I didn't know who that used to be.

I said that as a joke to go along with the spelling errors pun.

That said, if Jenner says she's a 'she', I'll call her a she. But I do feel the recent trend of shaming those who use 'him' or 'he' is a bit over the top.

Sorry, didn't realize you were joking. Just FYI, unless sarcasm is obvious, some posters use the purple font for it. Welcome to the board - looking forward to your posts. We need some new blood around here, especially in the off-season.

Caitlyn Jenner will have quite a bit of time to prepare for the ESPY Awards on July 15, but that doesn’t mean emotions won’t be high when she accepts her Arthur Ashe Courage Award. The former Olympian is even already worrying about messing up her makeup when she cries tears of joy at the show, HollywoodLife.com has EXCLUSIVELY learned!

While I don't understand the people who seem to be so upset about the Bruce Jenner thing, she is not a hero in my eyes.

The fact that this person is not the recipient is beyond me.

Lauren Hill Supporters Selling “The Real MVP” T-shirts After EPSN Denies Her ESPY Award
NATIONAL SARAH ZAGORSKI JUN 5, 2015

According to the Washington Times, supporters of Lauren Hill are so upset that Bruce Jenner was chosen over her for ESPN’s Arthur Ashe Award for Courage that they started selling t-shirts that have a picture of the teen with the words, “The Real MVP” and “Thank You Lauren” at the bottom.

Lauren had a very deadly form of brain cancer known as Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), which is a pediatric cancer found at the base of the brain. Unfortunately, less than 10% of DIPG children will live longer than 18 months from diagnosis. Doctors told Hill that she wouldn’t live to see 2015, but she proved them wrong and never stopped fighting her cancer.

The company selling the shirts, Cincy Shirts, says that 50% of the funds collected from the sales will go to The Cure Starts Now Foundation. Prior to her death, Lauren raised over $1.5 million for cancer research and said she felt she was doing God’s work.

As LifeNews previously reported, supporters of Lauren also took to Twitter to express their outrageous about Jenner receiving the award. One user said, “Elective surgery isn’t courage or bravery. Fighting brain cancer with grace and dignity at 19 is. Lauren is most deserving.” Another named Josh commented, “Lauren Hill deserves the ESPY award for courage, and it should not even be a discussion. What an absolute embarrassment.”

In a statement ESPN said the following about the award: “Sometimes that courage is demonstrated over the course of a lifetime and sometimes it is demonstrated in a single act that shines a light on an important contemporary issue. At all times, there are many worthy candidates. This year, we are proud to honor Caitlyn Jenner embracing her identity and doing so in a public way to help move forward a constructive dialogue about progress and acceptance.”

Last Christmas Lauren said, “I know I will be fine. Because I feel like I’ve done God’s work, what he sent me here to do. I feel like maybe, I’m not done yet. Maybe that’s why I’m still here.” Then, in March, Lauren appeared on the ABC talk show, The View alongside her mother, Lisa, to raise money for The Cure Starts Now Foundation. “It’s kind of hard to just focus on you and not on others. I just kept thinking about all of these other kids who have nothing else to do and their families being told that they have nothing else… and I have to be that voice,” said Lauren.

Additionally, Lauren was praised by basketball legend LeBron James on Twitter after her passing. James wrote, “Dear Lauren Hill, You are the true definition of strength, courage, power, leadership, etc! Your time spent on earth will never be forgotten.”

Gallagher, Jenner, and Hill are all heroic. This dialogue about who's the bigger hero and downplaying what others do to prop another up has seemed childish to me.

The trans community is one that faces considerable amounts of violence and is troubled economically as a result of much of society's attitudes towards them. It's a noble cause. Do I find it a bit frustrating that only the tranny with exorbitant wealth to get her appearance overnight is getting all the attention and recognition? A good bit of me is chapped about that, yes. There are many even more-so heroic trans individuals out there who do amazing things at poverty-level incomes and in much more hostile environments. But there is at least more of a discussion in the mainstream about some of these issues. There's tremendous value in that.

I agree Jules. While I congratulate Bruce/Caitlyn for having the courage to come out and subject themselves to the ridicule of making a major change in his/her life it was his/her decision where as Lauren was faced with a challenge not of her choosing and yet she faced death with dignity and grace.

I always expected to hear 'ESPY's' and 'embarrassment' in the same sentence. Just not because of recognition choice.

ESPN is a joke and the single reason sports in it's classic form no longer exists. Choosing Jenner matches perfectly with ESPN's mission statement of profiting from sports no matter the damage caused.

Jenner deserves recognition and has received it from enough sources without ESPN's exploitative desire to increase viewers for the espys.

Are you trying to say that ESPN gave the award to jenner so they could have a 'freak show'?

I was thinking exploitation in the way a politician will get applause by saying, "God Bless America!". I doubt they think America is a freak, but they know what works easily.
