Well, if Haslam told the truth as to the setup of the Browns when he fired Banner and Lombardi, then GM and Head Coach are parallel positions, and the head coach is not subordinate to the GM. They work together, not under/over one another.
So, if Haslam hired a new GM, it should, in theory, have no direct impact upon the head coach. I understand your point. Maybe you didn't totally understand mine as maybe I waqsn't clear. If the decision is to can Pettine only, so be it. If the decision is to fire the GM, Haslam can do that, then let the new GM decide if Pettine is a guy he can work with moving forward. I will say I am a bit at odds over benching Manziel over this last BS. Not BS because of what Manziel did. Pettine isn't this guys Daddy. As long as Manziel shows up for work, does the work, Pet shouldn't give a crap about what he does off campus unless it is illegal. Pet....it's about winning games....something you haven't done much of lately. I was a big fan of Pet up until now. How aboyt Pet doing something about his lap dog O'Neil who in preseason was talking about this D going to "Graduate" level on D now that they were a year in? LOL...what a joke that guy has turned out to be. If I was Haslam, I'd tell Pet to fire him or I will fire him. In our setup, the GM *should not* have that power over the head coach. It is like having 2 mid level executives each reporting to the President. You don't ask them to work together, you tell them to do so. If we hire a new GM, it should have no impact on the head coach, if what Haslam said about our setup is true. The GM does not hire the head coach, does not fire the head coach, and has no power and authority over the head coach. He is in a parallel position, equal in power and authority, but with different responsibilities. You act like there is some sort of delineation of power. What is said and what is happening are two different things. Also, what kind of successful organization doesn't have the GM and head coach on the same page?

Like I said, this is the setup Haslam said he would follow.
Whether or not he does is to be seen.

After tonights debacle does ANYONE want MORE of Pettine? You want more of this defense? More of this idiotic NO run until you have 8 seconds left offense?
Fire them both TONIGHT!

Fire them both TONIGHT! That was the most predictable defense I've ever seen. If we were facing anyone better than Matt Schaub we would have given up fifty. Fire them all.

If he doesnt start Manziel to find out what the kid has, then promote someone that will. U cant handcuff your franchise because your coach is being Petty.

the worst time management since...the last game That's what happens when you go with Davis who hasn't taken snaps in how long? Davis made a couple nice plays but by putting him in, Pettine proved one thing... that he would rather prove a point than put the Browns in the best position to win.. I hope his point was received.

We need to keep Pettine until the end of the season. He is like a sleeper agent for the #1 pick.

No reason to fire Pettine. He's perfect as a tank commander.
Farmer, though...good god yes, fire him immediately.
you had a good run Hank.

Keep Pet until the end of the season and then can his butt. Farmer can go too. Why has Dwayne Bowe also not been held accountable for not being on the field either? The dude is reaping money with no plan of play time. I don't think the guy even wants too and that's who we brought in to stretch the field...Farmer needs to be evaluated on all of this and fired. I see what he is trying to do at face value, but it isn't working in his favor and that's on him.

When McCown had to come out of the game, I felt it was right to insert Manziel as there was so little time left. However, Davis did do the job and put us in a position to win, so from that perspective, Pettine did make the right call. On a side note, I expect that Davis will start the next game...

...the worst time management... There was a problem with the headset cutting out, therefore getting the play in from Flip. I expect that no timeout was called as we wanted to preserve our last one. (Please correct me if I'm incorrect on that). Our bad luck; simply another way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory...

One could argue that Davis thought he did the right thing by sliding to burn time off the clock and let the timeout come from the sideline so we could call timeout because we had 2 left. We did run another play to get more time off the clock and kick the ball.

I was willing to give Pettine the pass as long as they fired Farmer and O'Neil, but at this point I'm not sure if it's worth caring about.
Nobody's going to come coach unless they can control the office from Haslam down and nobody's going to want to do that for a team that lacks talent.

The slide, which caused us to use a timeout, the burning of 20 seconds off the clock trying to get the team aligned, it all cost us the opportunity to run at least one, if not two, more plays. then with 8 seconds, rather than a quick out, we plowed up into the LOS. The end result was that we were playing for the 50 yard FG, from a guy whose season long is 44, rather than making it a much more makeable attempt.

Chip Kelly the GM vs Eric Mangini the GM
Who do you take? Oof. Probably Mangini, because at least you wouldn't be in cap hell. Cap hell. Like that has ever mattered to the Browns. When was the last time they had to cut or not resign a player because they were up against the cap? The second season under Davis as HC.

Pettine is a play not to lose coach. No daring down field throws until late. No creativity in the game planning. No time management skills. Planning for OT until the backup QB gets you a chance at a long FG and then you figure you will settle for that while you have time outs left. It shows at the end of halves. It shows at the beginning of the second half every game. Why defer to the second half if you have no changes in the game plan at halftime to drive the ball down the field. Pettine is a narcissist and a true nihilist when it comes to the Cleveland Browns players. He has no faith in his players or coaches. He is a failed HC and I dare say, a failed coach. I am saddened by the state of the Cleveland Browns. It must be very difficult living in Cleveland.

Steve Young said watching our last drive was like watching the debauchery of the HOF game. We are making these mistakes on the last day of November.
Pet cost his team a victory tonight by playing Davis ahead of Manziel. What did he do again? Rape someone? Beat a woman? Get arrested? Be involved in a money-laundering operation? Get caught w/illegal drugs?
What? There were pictures of him drinking? Oh, the horror.

Pettine is a play not to lose coach. Yes he is. Remember a few weeks ago when we stopped the Steelers on 4th down and got the ball on our 1 yard line and needed a couple first downs just to get out to where we could safely punt the ball, manziel was playing.. and from our 1, we ran a QB sneak, then a very predictable dive into the LOS, then chucked a deep ball and were forced to punt from our own endzone? Pettine didn't trust anybody on our team to actually make a play with our backs against the wall. Compare that to last night, the Ravens got the ball on the 1, late in the 3rd quarter, trying to protect a 4 point lead.. threw it on every play, nothing fancy, just drop back and throw it with Matt Schaub, who had already thrown 1 pick-6 in the game, and who has been in recent years a turnover machine... and after 2 incompletions, they finally connected and got out past the 20 before they were forced to punt. Does Pettine not realize that his players KNOW that he doesn't trust them to make a play? They aren't stupid, they have to know he thinks he is protecting them from themselves..

What? There were pictures of him drinking? Oh, the horror. And with you thinking that pictures of him drinking is the main reason he was benched is evidence you have no idea what is going on.

Let us not forget, when asked about those pictures/video, the golden boy lied to the coach, then got his drinking buddies to lie for him in an effort to avoid any disapline.
If Manziel is going to act like a little lying brat, punish him like a little lying brat...take away something Manziel feels he is entitled to...starting for the Browns, regardless of his conduct.
It is about time someone gives Manziel what he deserves...benching until it hurts!

You're right. I won't be, but many of you will be. You said the key word: "reinstated." Gordon has been kicked out of two colleges for drugs and telling lies. He has been busted in the NFL numerous times and been suspended twice. He has been arrested for a DUI after being suspended. He got caught drinking again after the DUI when he was told not to. He lied about almost all of it. Yeah, it was cough medicine and not purple drank. His ditched rehab after two weeks. He came back on the field last year and dogged it on almost every single play. Didn't want to practice. Went through the motions. Got suspended again. And the very same guys who wanna castrate Johnny will be the very same guys welcoming Gordon back w/open arms. So thanks, for pointing out that it won't be me who will be the hypocrite.

No one player loses the game, but what do you think about letting all that time running off the clock and sliding instead of running out of bounds?
If JM had done that, this board would be lit-up about how we have to cut him immediately. Davis does it and guys say he played well. LMAO..............priceless.

Yes, he should have run out-of-bounds. We simply don't know his rationale behind sliding. Once the play could not be communicated to Davis, a timeout should have been called immediately. I do not believe they were primary factors in losing the game...

Oh, I think I know why he slid. He was overwhelmed by the moment. He hasn't played all year. He wasn't mentally ready to handle such a pressure-packed situation. He was cut by the Rams. Yes, the Rams.........the same Rams who have had some of the worst qb play in the entire league this year.
Davis should never have been in this game. It's not losing the game that is significant. It's the mind-set of this franchise. They are losers and their ineptitude reared its ugly head once again.

Dead staff walking. Tanking the season is a conscious act. Losing on purpose. Compared to our opponents, we have inferior talent and inferior coaching. We are losing because we are not good enough to win games, not because we are trying to. It's been said, just stay close. We will find a way to lose. We have poor fundamentals. We have poor tackling. We have a passive defense. We cannot run. We do not know how to win.

Those mistakes cost us the opportunity to greatly improve our chances of winning... Can you say that's why we lost? No, Davis played fairly well.. but his mistakes cost us too.

Is there any possibility that we might be able to get Payton Manning hired in a position of authority such as Ozzie, General Manager/Vice President and let an actual football mind control our team? Perhaps then we might get coaches that can coach and players that can play.
