IMO at this point I would not trade any of our QB's. You don't know how our season will go. I predicted we would win no more than 5-6 games, but what do I know? We may win more or less. What I do know is we go through 3-4 QB's a year. Let's wait until the trade deadline, I believe it's November 10th and see where we stand then.

It's not a wait and see in some cases, as I said in some.
If a team is in desperate need, they may offer more for a player than just simply waiting on a player for a tradeline date.
Watson is gone at the end of the season no matter what. His contract is structured that way. So, he's motivated to lay down good tape for the next team.

He has been really good in the fourth quarter of the last two games.
I don't want to discount what he has done.
However, we came from behind to win two close games. The outcomes of those games would have been different "if" a number of sure interceptions were not dropped.
A sure pick six and a number of others that would have made the outcomes different.
He has shown better mobility than expected. That has made a difference.
DW has to protect the ball and avoid turnovers. If he can do that. We will win games that we were not expected to win.
Three weeks ago DW was 32 out of 32 QBs on NFL ranking list-- he's 24 of 32 today.......Mayfield, he of 55 million dollar contract- he be 29th AND he's out for three weeks due to thumb injury.......Blanton Collier, Browns, coach in 60s.......on any given Sunday, anyone can win. The QB ratings sure flux during the season......hope DW balls out because I'm a Browns fan.......Go Browns!!!! DW needs forgiveness for past actions.....most of us are perfect. Right.

Nice Plus if he plays like this his comp pick could Ensure that we get more front seven support
we won't get a comp pick because we kicked the can down the road +1 year
I'm pretty sure that players with void years built in for signing bonuses are still eligible for comp picks. It goes by the salaried contract years. When they run out, they become free agents, when they become free agents, they are eligible for comp picks.

It's amazing how a couple of wins brings out the champions of forgiveness.
I'm a Browns fan and I want to see wins, but I am still ready for that guy to be gone from Cleveland forever. I don't need to forgive anything.. He's 2 weeks into a high for Browns wins, love the fact we finally won a season opener. He's over 4 years into a lull of empathy and downright embarrassment and lack of respect for the person.

FYI: DW will be a post June 1 cut...he will not be a free agent. He has a 'dummy' year added to his contract that allows them to kick the...err...spread out his cap hit into '27 & '28.
As soon as he has a bad game everyone will be on him again. It's probably just a matter of time and could happen tonight. I hope he continues to play well because I want the team to do well.
I'm of the belief that I'll always root for us to win, and since he's our QB I Have to do that. However, I'm not rooting just for him
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Boston is far to the left as KC settles into the slot. Fannin is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Sampson are split in the backfield as the ball is hiked ... Here we go."

You're right, his void date isn't until February 2029, so they can utilize the post June 1 designation. They won't value, even a 3rd round comp, high enough to not use the designation.
I have been asked by friends and people that know me, why do you still root for the Browns since you despise watson so much? My answer is the same then as it is now. Because there are 52 other players and a coaching staff on the team. I'm not going to turn my back on all of them just because this owner that obviously has no moral scruples signed that scum bag.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
Can we talk for a sec about what goes down if DW continues showing out and the team continues winning? I know it’s only 4 games and things can get go sideways quick but let’s say it doesn’t and we end up sniffing at the wild card (Baltimore is likely div winner IMO) and DW looks like a real quantity late in the season. What then?
A few weeks ago the idea of resigning him was preposterous. It still feels ridiculous but as every week stacks, things can change. Like I said, it’s still only week 4. But week 8 comes quick and then you’re starting to have thoughts and conversations.
I can’t say I like where those convos go. He could very likely jilt us if we did go to the alter with another ring. I’d just bet money he’d want to test the market. The whole thing feels good right now but I’m trying to take the long view. The more he wins, the wierder this has the potential to become.

Yeah, even if he somehow leads the Browns to say a North Division title, he is a free agent after the season ends and I do not see any world where the Browns would Franchise tag him. He would be free to sign anywhere. I would assume the Browns would attempt to resign him before free agency begins in that scenario but if they can't and he wants to leave, he will have his opportunity.
I would assume they WOULD franchise tag him? And also draft a QB in the 1st round. That way we'd only be on the hook for one year

I have no idea and am not a salary cap guru. But the franchise tag costs around 40 million plus I would think they would have to add in the cost of what would be owed to him on his restructured deal which would be about 35 million for the 2027 season. That's 75 million.
Now maybe there's some way around that total but you would need someone far more versed at this than I am to explain how that may work.
Edit to add. A top 10 drafted NFL quarterback makes an average annual value (AAV) ranging from roughly $11 million to over $14 million per year on their initial four-year rookie contract.
That would drive the cost of the QB position to 85 plus million for 2027.

The only way they would be able to bring him back is to sign him to a multiyear deal and structure it like they did in 2022 where most of the money is back owed, so the majority of that contract hits the cap after the past restructures are done. Then there will be huge cap hits then. It is not impossible but very unlikely.
